  • I have this remote hooked to a Lincoln 330MPX. You'll see in the video how the numbers jump all over the place. This is not the only time this has done this. The remote is 2 months old. I think Lincoln is going to send me a new one. I'll update this if they do.
I should note that I made this video for Lincoln Electric Support. So it is not your typical YT video. Thanks for watching.
Late Update. Lincoln Electric quickly replaced the remote and I haven't had an issue since.

I've haven't had any problems out of the replacement. It does come in handy in this situation for sure.

The dial is crosslinc with a random number generator because they use cheap potentiometer or cheap digital equivalent to compute dial movement. The symptom would have nothing to do with the cord. For the price it costs this is insane. I don't like the prices for any Lincoln remote.

I think they use incremental encoder, when i was testing them i had the same problem, you can solve it with small value capicitor that work as "anti mechanical bouncing" and with a good code (software)....
however you are right for the high price there shouldn't be any problem like that.

@marioneallin7400 Show us with an oscilloscope on UA-cam without and with the added capacitor (ceramic?) and also with a higher quality encoder something solid state. In s past life I remember arguing about this same problem and it should be obvious it's not the wire. Anyone someone needs to bother with the task to show Lincoln electric they've been using a junk potentiometer or digital equivalent in thier product and they have brushed it off many times as check the wire connection.

@@ShaunBesttoday i got two different encoder from where i work, also there is an optic encoder but i didn't take it to test because is the last one and have to be used for repair... In the next day i will take a picture of the signal before and after the cap to see the bounces... I have no interest to help lincoln instead i want the people to know and understand Electronic and how it work.
Probabily other Crosslink work fine and this was an isolated case.

So does the new remote work as it should for over 1200 or is it the same jumping around?

Wow you sound just like I did when my lincoln 330mpx failed on the job with only 200 hour's . then I went through 3 250 lgt spool guns they were broke right out of the box then the $2000 active 8 x wire feeder failed all brand new equipment sad but true .

For what this toy cost, it is easier and cheaper to get some 18/4 extension cord wire , a small Jbox and a 10 ohm rheostat. Most welder fine controls are 10 ohm. Just tie the cord from the new rheostat into the existing one and add a local/remote switch. Made this kind of remote for my Lincoln DC210 Pro. The Lincoln voltage control kit for an LN25 was a couple hundred bucks. A 10 ohm rheostat, some 18/4 wire and a 4 prong plug was under 20 bucks and does exactly the same thing. Use 6 conductor wire for the remote and you can also run a 110 ac plug next to the welder remote.

Yeah, this remote is for when I stick weld and jumping rod sizes and types. The 330MPX has the "X" so anything Lincoln makes with the X will cross talk. My LN 25X will change the settings on the welder right from the suitcase. No remote is needed.

After you do it for 50 years and not 50 minutes, you'll see that it doesn't matter the brand.
