  • A new series where I do my best to give my first impressions on how I would recommend playing some of the nations of Dominion 6. A lot has changed and I hope my perspective as a Dominions 5 veteran helps you get started!
    Do note I have not actually played a full multiplayer game as many of these as the game has only come out recently.
    If you have other ideas or suggestions on playing the nation, please write them in the comments below for others to see and discuss!
    Shoutout to Sturm for creating the viewable summons at the pretender screen mod
    ChazzyBurger made a more detailed guide, its awesome!

    LA Pyrene
    Summary: Feudal kingdom ruled by decadent half breed demon nobility and the church. They have a massive focus on blood and glamour magic with powerful capital only half-demon knights.
    Unit Summary
    Bekryde units with more stats and resistances
    BUT Lower precision and magic resistance.
    Knight is very good value
    Sacred is VERY strong, but weak to smite demon from priests.
    Commander Summary
    All commanders have fire,cold resistance and darkvision.
    All mages are decent commanders.
    Strong focus on glamour and blood magic.
    Out of capital Sorgina air 2 provides patrollers for blood hunting.
    All commanders can join a sabbath in combat.
    Diversity issues that can be resolved later in the game.
    Summons Summary
    Succubi and Incubi are expensive seducers with glamour magic.
    Best chance of fixing magic diversity issues for the nation by stealing mages of other nations or thrones
    Non-National Summon -
    Cambion Progeny are the occasional result of demonic seduction.
    Blackhawks are the best patrollers for the nation
    Bluecaps and Gnomes help the nation break into Earth and Nature magic.
    Combined Roster Summary
    Glamour and Blood magic are somewhat weak early, but scale well.
    Therefore the nation relies a lot on the strength of their sacred to survive the early game.
    Can diversify magic later as they seduce mages of other nations.
    A good target is to try and seduce throne defenders when possible.
    Spell Recommendations
    Group Luck
    Blood Lust
    Twilight/Nightfall
    Summon Imps
    Sabbath Master/Slave
    Blood Burst
    Aura of Splendor+
    Aura of Bewilderment
    Charm
    Leech
    Pretender Design
    Strong bless for the early game, with optional late game strength.
    Undying+Enchanted blood synergizes extremely well with the sacred cavalry
    At least blood 5 crafting, as climbing past blood4 is difficult without empowerment or heroes
    Astral Earth is likely useful too, for golem access.
    Gameplay
    (Early)
    Early gameplay is mostly defined by throwing sacred cavalry at problems.
    Once capital recruitment is maxed, there are two routes to take.
    Either build a first fort and boom as normal
    Or invest in foreign labs to recruit Sorginas and begin your blood economy early.
    Since this is early bloodhunting keep in mind peasant assassinations.
    Prioritize hunting with Cambion Kings/Counts in low candles, countess/queens in high.
    Use Air2 sorginas to summon black hawks for upkeep free patrol strength
    (Midgame)
    For the midgame we want to seduce throne defenders, or whichever mages your first war target was using with succubi/incubi. They can scale walls so once you trap them in their forts you can freely steal their mages.
    Lifelong protection and soul scales are great items to use here.
    Replacing their dominion candles with yours increases your chance of a successful seduction.
    Expand the blood economy where possible. Countesses are more efficient bloodhunters than counts, but susceptible to peasant assassination. Be mindful of dominion candles.
    Focus on completing the Earth and Nature minigame
    An Earth random cambion summons a blue cap
    Blue cap forges Earth boots
    Earth random Cambion Queen uses earth boots to summon a gnome, and forge a bloodstone
    (Late)
    Never stop expanding and using your blood economy. Try to stick to about 100 slaves in your bank at once
    Any more than that and you aren't summoning enough demons or crafting items, any less than that and the blood economy is too small
    Good ways to spend blood slaves would be
    Crafting blood boosters for infernal disease or ritual of the five gates
    Three red seconds for citadels
    General combat magic like leech, life for a life, or infernal prison
    Remember to blood sacrifice to push dominion

    2 Additional comments I wanted to add here:
    The Countess -> Bluecap -> Gnome chart goes a bit further.
    A gnome equipped with both glamour boosters can go into a forest and summon a Faerie Queen for even more diversity.
    The nation doesn't specifically care about heat or cold scales, so consider Faery Queen & Unseelie Queens when designing a pretender.
    Also, on the concerns of the capital mages being seduced because they have 10 morale. All I have to say is: Yeah, that's thematic. Thumbs up from me. (Wear dragon helmets for extra morale and pray)

      @DemonsthenesDominions Місяць тому +4

      Also worth mentioning that if you have one W3 mage including boosters by Conjuration 8, you can always hit your own lab with Wolven Winter to do the Unseelie Queen the following turn. So I wouldn't stress about that decision in Pretender design for the Fairy Court spell; ultimately it's like a 5W tax on a 65G spell.
      But if you want to be able to summon Fay units every month, yeah it's probably worth thinking about if you don't have bigger reasons to pick a temperature scale to dump.

    • @ZanGames
      @ZanGames  Місяць тому +3

      That is fair, depending on the age thats a tough tax to pay. Given this is LA, oof.
      Lately I've come to the opinion Unseelie Queens are straight better than faerie queens in *Most* cases. Mostly because 50% are wailing winds casters. The other 50% can twiceborn for insurance, but otherwise still have great paths for big glamour/water. Including the glamour fear buff. The option for both *is* nice though. Such a great mage. Poor morale... but great mage.
      Probably worth a whole video on them, both Faery and Unseelie do soooo much.

    The big problem i have with this nation is that there is not really any Blood-Glamour crosspath spells beyond the charm spell. Makes this particular combo feel pointless since glamour already has charm.
    Glamour does give good access to Nature, Air and water (and low death) with summon fairy court in the very late game.
    For thugs the morale is going to play a decent roll, but there arent as many seducers in LA so it could be worse. Its a nation where berserker bless is worth considering just to get your cambion thugs to stay in fights

    • @ZanGames
      @ZanGames  Місяць тому +5

      I dont think the Cambion Kings should be thugged, at least not until they get blood8 for damage reversal. Even then probably not.
      Its only the capital mages with awful morale, all the other mages are fine (except the frat boy monks)
      Definitely each cap mage gets a dragon helmet MINIMUM, or dragonscale armor if they will use the glamour boosting helmet.

      @@jimdee5319 Any tips on how to actually thug them? In theory they seem like great thugs but they don't seem to really do that well in my SP test game so far, no ability to self bless, no access to water magic to forge the self bless item seems to really hurt them. I like how they are good at blood hunting so they can almost always have reinvigoration ready to cast. I've had better luck with Femine's Unseen cap only mages as thugs over the Cambion counts.

    Very fun nation, I enjoy how quickly I can get my blood economy going with 1 or 2 Countesses and a handful of Counts. Only thing I wish the nation had is along the lines of LA ULM with its unique vampires. A couple unique succubus/incubus with extra magic path diversity/depth instead of the normal summon succubus spell right out of the gate would be cool.

    • @ZanGames
      @ZanGames  Місяць тому +3

      I agree with you. Having some more named Cambions in the same way as Ulm's vampires, with extra lore would be very flavorful and give more of an idea of these decadent nobles.

  • @Garsemor
    @Garsemor Місяць тому +7

    So small recomendation with the bless. I would say that it is highly worth it to take one or more points of reinvigoration, because all your mages are sacred, and that includes the mages you would use as sabath slaves, which can do an amazing job of letting you push your sabaths further without them just exploding on themselves.
    On a similar note, I would recommend being very careful with blood bond, as despiute it being very tempting to take for the knights, I can guarantee that it WILL backfire at some point and implode your entire sabath. XD

    • @DemonsthenesDominions
      @DemonsthenesDominions Місяць тому +2

      Reinvigoration is also pretty good for thugging with the counts, if you don't give them a blood thorn or other gear that helps with fatigue, though it is worth mentioning that as as blood mage, they can cast the spell by that same name after casting a few rounds of buffs... If the blood slave isn't killed by archery.

    • @RPGabe
      @RPGabe Місяць тому

      Sabbaths do already have access to the Reinvigoration spell to reset fatigue. Also Sorginas are fantastic battle mages (Air Evocs/Summons, Sulphur Haze, Fire Cloud) and won't be sacred. Same with Heliophagii, Archdevils, Vampire Counts and Demon Lord summons later.

    I'm about 3 years into a SP campaign, and those Cambion Knights are DISGUSTING, serious contender for one of the best non-giant sacreds especially with the blood blesses/buffs
    I've been having success with the blood surge bless on them, since their lance usually kills to proc its buff, making their swords and goats even nastier and more viable against plate armor.
    Their unique heroine the Red Mistress lets you do crossbreeding, so consider taking luck if you want to lean into that to get the extra spicy crossbreeds. Strangely, the cambion queens/countesses have crossbreeding bonuses too, despite having a minuscule chance of getting a nature path in order to do it. Maybe I'm missing something there, but it may just be for flavor more than anything.
    Overall I really like LA Pyrene! Having a faction that focuses on seduction as a core mechanic is really neat.

      Thanks for the review! Initially i found them dying a lot to priests so that scarred me a lot. After swapping to undying/ench. Blood they just dont die. Glad youre having a blast!

      I wonder if later on they're going to get a unique crossbreeding spell added like Abysia's Infernal Breeding.

    • @lambdalandis
      @lambdalandis Місяць тому +2

      Note that Blood Surge procs separately on the rider and mount, so the lance charge actually does not make the goats killier. Still might be worthwhile, but a subtle nerf from Dom5 to Dom6

    Any thoughts on the new blood/glamour charm spell that dropped alongside the nation? Being just G1B1 the increased fatigue compared to charm becomes less real than it looks, 5 less range sucks, but it's available at blood 6 rather than thaum 7 so a bit earlier. The fact that instead of MR negate it's MR hard to negate + morale after probably makes it more effective in some situations, I'd have to do the maths to figure out precisely when though. In general though I feel like it's at least worth a mention given how well-suited to the nation it is + already recommending Charm, but still curious as to your thoughts on just how it stacks up to charm in practice.

    • @dp101
      @dp101 Місяць тому +1

      Oh, and one other thing, why the focus on the contracts? For the soul scales the reasoning is immediately obvious, but I'm not sure how this helps. Is it just strong in cases where the seduction fails so it turns into a battle?

    • @ZanGames
      @ZanGames  Місяць тому +1

      Hi!
      When combined with blood rain and some of the glamour fear spells, the new B/G charm is likely better than regular hellbind heart/charm. It has a huge problem in that its only 20 range and requires bloodslaves to cast. That makes it very tough.

    • @ZanGames
      @ZanGames  Місяць тому +1

      The contracts are just for insurance to help win the assassination battles.
      Hilariously the seducer will spend their turns casting luck on the summoned imps, which is pretty funny (and effective).
      There is an argument that can be made on whether you should just summon a second seducer instead of giving them an LLP. 40 slaves for the item, 66 for another seducer.
      Likely I am just old school on my thinking here. For regular seduction attempts, stealing the commander is secondary to the assassination battle. Dream seduction is a little different in that it has a higher chance of doing nothing, and a higher chance of successfully stealing a commander. Meaning such a low chance of combat... I'd have to test in a real game.

    Was skipping the air 1 access on the witches intentional?

    • @ZanGames
      @ZanGames  Місяць тому +1

      Yes. They need outside help in the form of stormpower or sabbaths to do things, and i am not a fan of mages like that. The A2/B2 options are solid though. The rest...well someone has to research.
      Edit: If i missed a use case, please let everyone know though! My vid is my biased opinion, but i always hope for others to write theirs in the comments. Especially if its different to mine.

      @@ZanGames I feel that if something is worth taking more than 1x then they've done it wrong. It's not that you shouldn't -I just don't want the boring additive choice to be strong.
