Thank you so much for this video. I have always thought cichlids were beautiful but did not like the sterile sand and rock look of the tank. I will be getting some of these and give them a planted tank home!
Lol. I have 4 of these!!! 2 angels, a ram and a electric blue acara in my 90 gal ( full planted). Used to have 3 electric blue acaras but 2 paired up and where super aggressive and started unplanting all my plants because they where making the nest on the sand for the babies. Also i have shell dwellers in a 33 gal long with anubias, java fern, jungle vals and duckweed.
I have angelfish and an acara in my 55. Either the acara or the Filipino blue Angel is ripping up my small leaf stem plants. I’ve had at least $50 in plants ruined in the last few weeks.
As someone who has had Severums for decades, I've found that it comes down to the specific Severum in whether they eat the plants or not. I currently have a full grown Severum in a planted tank with no issues with him eating the plants.
Should I wait to get my group of red head tapajos since they’re out of stock and get the Severum and EBA I want, or just wait for the group of RHT first?!
Acara are pretty docile, unless paired up and breeding. I had a geo in with my acara and had to move the geo because he was being so mean to the acara. After that the acara ballooned in size and colored up beautifully. I have one acara in with 4 angels, red eye monks, zebra & leopard danios and a pictus cat. They get along great now.
Once again great information as always but question when it comes to bigger cichlids like Pike cichlids or some of the larger spices what is the best to keep with plants?
I love my electric blue acaras. I keep them in planted tank. But the largest one i have does pick at my sword plants and they dont look great now. May have to end up moving him to another tank
I have a mated pair of red spot sevrums and they eat every plant that's been in the tank including my pathos roots in the tank! They also try to destroy my plastic plants!
Guys is there any plants that i can grow without substrate and co2 set ups? I have 4ft 260 litre tank with 3 severums (2 small and 1 big), 2 blue acara (small), 1 fire mouth (small), 2 geophagus orange head and 1 red jewel. I have a normal sand substrate.
@@CichlidBros I just got 2 Geophagus topajos today and they’re pretty aggressive toward one another should I get another one to bring down the aggression or just wait and see if it calms down?
Why the Zebra Acara isn't popular in the hobby is beyond me. One of my favorite cichlids. I have 3 juvies growing out still. They grow very slow though. Don't forget floating plants for Tangs.
Really dont agree about kribensis being non aggressive every time ive had a male it'd bully every fish regardless of size or species so i stear well clear, i love them but damn theyre assholes

I have Kribs, love them and their color are outstanding! Have GBR, and Gold rams. Love the nano cichlids! 😁
Awesome video, Troy! Loved this Top 10 video, thanks for the info! 👍
Thank you for watching! Appreciate it 👍🏻
My electric blue acara tore up my moss. He also gets mad sometimes and rips up some some stem plants. He leaves the ferns and anubias alone though.

amazing knowledge....
my keyholes are some amazing fish. not flashy but very nice!

totally agree my turquoise severum never touches my plants meanwhile my festivum eats everything but amazon swords
Awesome video. Have you ever kept texas cichlids ( I love mine)
Thanks! I have in the past. Great cichlids for sure! Not great with most plants though
@@CichlidBros cool

Love the zebra lace angels, wonder how are all those acara towards smaller fish

Very nice tank. What are the dimensions please?
Every time I see those zebra lace angel fish I drool 🤤. 😂. Beautiful fish but my tanks are pretty full. Maybe some day
Are you guys going to Aquashella in the future?
Bro what do you think about Severum, AND corydora

What is the whilte/orange marked apistogramma just after the 8 minute mark? Thank you.
Apistogramma macmasteri
Are there any other American cichlids that do well with plants like java fern and anubias?
1:58 what is that tetra?
I'm going to try live plants next time I visit the store
What kind of plants are those? (Time Lapse 05:45)
Make a timeline video of your cichlid
They had grown really big 💙
What species of cichlids will do well with a neutral gravel substrate???
Almost all cichlids will do fine with neutral substrate
Guys is there any plants that i can grow without substrate and co2 set ups? I have 4ft 260 litre tank with 3 severums (2 small and 1 big), 2 blue acara (small), 1 fire mouth (small), 2 geophagus orange head and 1 red jewel.
I have a normal sand substrate.
Can geophagus species be mixed?
Can the zebra acara and electric blue acara live together?
What filter do you use??
I have a variety, but mostly canisters and sumps
How big do festivums get?
Should geophgus be kept in even or odd numbers?
I would recommend odd if possible, but it’s likely not a huge difference

how can I control aggression on geo sveni?

Can electric blue acara have a gravel substrate?
Yep. I usually just prefer sand personally
@@CichlidBros but they will be fine with gravel, as well as sand? I have a neutral gravel substrate in my 110 gallon planted community tank.
While I also love the Electric Blues, they are uprooting all my plants on a regular basis.
How about a video on community cichlids with live plants
Did one recently. Here you go! ua-cam.com/video/CocKj-A0Gtw/v-deo.html

How about Rainbow cichlids..
Probably would work fine
How are Jewel Cichlids with plants? Obviously, they're aggressive with other fish, so it wouldn't be a community planted tank.
Tropheus dubosi are a no go with plants 🤣

Cichlid Bros wants to show cichlids for planted tanks... Only has fake plants..... LOL
Yeah in the 180 which has none from this list. The 150 is a fully planted tank, but thanks
