I just made some this past weekend. Deer backstrap, smoked sausage, ground beef and 3 different kinds of beans and of course the original tomatoes and spices along with some brown sugar and maple syrup and many dashes of reds hot sauce to give it a little more kick!!
I use my garden grown tomatoes that I've canned in Mason jars in the chili and use ground deer with a minimum of beef fat in it. I'll brown the meat with the peppers and onion. Then put all that goodness in the crock pot with all the rest of the ingredients and let that go about 8 hours. The weather's cooling down now. Chili time is coming soon!! Cornbread or Scoops, whatever you prefer. I like both myself.
Made this recipe yesterday and it was the best I’ve made and everyone wanted the recipe. I killed the hog and my buddy had the venison. You the man Jeff
Jeff as I'm writing this my house smells absolutely wonderful using some meat from my daughter's doe she got back in dec got some cornbread warming up beers on ice thank you for the recipe was easy to follow and dam it smells good thanks again and God bless
Hey Jeff, I'm glad to see you put beans in your chilli. Some argue beans don't belong in chilli, but here in South Carolina, we always use beans in our chilli. Make some Mexican cornbread and you're good to go. Glad to see you're back brother.
Thank you Jeff for putting this up. I used your recipe for the chilli. I’ve never made chilli before. I made enough to feed my family and the neighbors. We all agreed it was good. I definitely learned something. Again thanks for putting it up.
Yes indeed! That time of year to start making chili, or navy bean and ham soup... and crusty, hot, chewy bread with butter. That makes for some fine eating right there !!! A good grilled cheese sammich is NEVER a bad thing with a bowl of hot goodness.
Jeff thanks for the Chili recipe - looks great - should be outstanding. Can't wait for the cool weather to reach me down here in the Bahamas. r/., Neal, Andros Island, Bahamas
Love the videos you and Hannah put out. As a Kentuckian let me say, congratulations on the deer y’all harvested in this great commonwealth. Hope u stack’em like firewood in Alabama. Thanks for sharing. One of my favorite dishes.
Love you and your daughters content. The cat head biscuits were my favorite but seeing we have 6 more weeks of winter ima have to make this soon. I just grilled some hog sausage local today. Wish yall good health. Appreciate yall!
I've never tried making it with sausage or diced pepper. I'll have to try that. Just a FYI to you or others to make things more simple...most all the seasoning ingredients are in a chili kit called Carroll Shelby's chili kit. It's usually in a brown box. Thanks for the video and good luck this season.
You beat me to it! That's been my go to for a decade or so now ! I love Carroll Shelby chilli kit! I leave the mesa out of it. But it makes a gallon of chili just perfect!
I usually use a 20 quart stockpot when I make chili. I don't have to worry about overflow that way. I usually have about 10-12 quarts by the time I get it made. I've been thinking it's getting about time to be making some chili, it was 34 degrees when I got up this morning. Another good video, keep them coming. Have a good day.
Hey Jeff,I use Navy beans other than the black beans.... But all your spices and ingredients are just like mine other than the hog. Got my recipe as a kid from Field and Stream magazine. Of course I've tweeked it over the years. But oh boy is it good!! And with homemade biscuits 🤯🤯🤯 mmmmmm!!
Wow I can smell it from here . Lol , hahaha . We love onions in our house so I think I would have put two more onions and to give it a little sweet taste maybe some pork in beans helps that out . You do a great job keep your video’s coming when possible. Thanks
You're right Jeff there are 1000's of recipes for Chili... This one looks like a winner... And I never make spicy chili....I just put Frank's on the table and let um have at it.... I always make a huge pot of Chili for Christmas Eve .... May try this recipe this year.... Well done!
We have a lot of deer in Hawaii I, well my wife. Has made deer meat chilli, stew with deer meat instead of beef. Vegetable stir fry. All different meals. Deer is the best.
Hey Jeff, just came from my brother Rosary. Just saw Hannah unboxing and I wanna see your chili 🌶. Catching up to you guys on your videos, they always cheer me up, been feeling a bit down and love you guys videos. Definitely makes me feel better and will try this recipe. Glad your arms doing better too . I can’t wait to see you guys on Christmas. So greatful for all you do jeff.
Hey Jeff could you include footage of people trying the finished product at the end of these videos? Idk if this is the same for others but I personally really enjoy that “love at first bite” moment people have after all the prep and cooking is done and think it would be a good way to finish off these videos. Thanks and hope y’all are staying safe!
i have several recipes for game chili, this sounds like another good one. If my son in colorado connects with an elk , I;ll give it a try. thanks for sharing !!!!!
Been a long time since you were on my timeline, I've missed your videos Jeff. I love deer chili but unfortunately I've never had it with the wild hog, we don't have them in Ohio. Id love to have that added to my chili. I need to visit to get some wild hog deer chili. That would be heaven in a bowl.
Your chili looks delicious ! I am going to try too but I only have some ground beef and maybe I will add some jimmy dean ! Thanks Jeff and I like watching your channel !
Here’s an old South Carolina secret to chili. As soon as it is ready cut it off and let it sit ( or refrigerate)until 30 minutes til time to eat it. Taste it cold at that time. Season, again some if needed. Warm it up and serve it. All those tastes get into everything and you get that “next day’ taste, today. It’s awesome!
Hey Jeff. How's that arm doing since your surgery? That chili smells good from here! LOL. Now I have to make a big pot of chili! LOL good luck during 🦌 season this year. Ya'll stay safe.
Chili looks good brotha👍 Should have invited Shenandoah down for some chili... Little front porch pickin.. Maybe Marty can get Hannah going on some singin...
Her Jeff that chili looks really good. If. May make a suggestion I’m not sure if you can find in the south. But i where I live i buy chili magic with beans. It adds little more flavor to chili. Might try it out. I also add another can of beans as well
Hey Jeff, it will actually cook faster and brown the meat more if you do it in smaller batches... ( I scoop it out onto paper plates while the rest cooks) also I like to leave all the fat and juices in until the very end after it's cooked down a long time, it's easier to scoop off just the couple teaspoons than try to drain a whole pot full of meat imo... I'd recommend you try placing the beans out as a topping so people can add to their chili like chopped fresh onion, cheese, sour cream, crackers, pasta etc. The plain, meat only chili freezes much better than if it has beans in it as they'll disintegrate in reheating after a freeze.
It looks like it’s going to be pretty good. I always make chili when I over cook steaks and dry them out. Something else it’s really good in chili or even soup that sounds a little weird or chicken hearts and gizzards. When they’re cooked you know that liquid they get nice and soft and all that gristle breaks down and isn’t so chewy. Lol it’s a perfect meal when it starts getting cold outside. Looks great. 🤤
Cool fall weather, Chili and Grilled Cheese Sandwiches..Great combination!
Every time I make chili, I’m reminded of when I was a kid going to small town football games and rodeos and eating Frito pie!
Looks great, making me hungry. Hope you and Hannah have a great season! Thank you for sharing!
Long time no see.
Glad to see you back
Look GOOD. THANKS FOR THE UPDATE. GLAD TO SEE YOU BACK.
Cooler weather brings in chili!!
