Just absolutely phenomenal! Lol I laughed when you said “I don’t want to waste your time guys”!!! as you figured out how to do the dashboard. The dashboard is a masterpiece in its own right. Mind boggling craftsmanship.
Hey I was a policeman and saw a solid steering shaft from a Volkswagen kill a driver in an accident, you’re quite right to work around a solid shaft in a direct line to the driver . You’re doing magnificent work it’s amazing . Just mentioning that the Toyota Prius has got an electric assist which people use sometimes in mustangs and other cars which don’t have power steering , it’s a popular modification from a wrecked Prius because there’s no hydraulics it’s just an electric motor with a controller.
That's very sad. That a small change can mean the diffrence between life and daeth. Will keep the Prius in mind, I actually want to do a similar upgrade on the McLaren as it currently has hydraulic power steering that leaks.
I think it would look nice if the dash had an aluminium panel over the black, with those swirl patterns and little dome head nuts, I think that kind of thing was popular in the 50's.
Nooooo! Engine turning is fine for a car from the twenties, but the Jaguars used crackle black, nice and non-reflective, and it ages beautifully. Less glittery, more redolent of scientific precision and the fifties. The gauges had matching black rims of course, there was rarely a cap on the centre of the steering wheel - just a hole. (PS the dampers on the SU dash pots need brass screws instead of plastic, but that can wait for later…). Great work!
Safety column 👍, the wooden steering wheels have killed people when they head butt them breaking a section out and the remaining ends skewer from each side through the skull. They've been banned in cars and ski boats for a while now over here brother. Nice work 👏 on Jag.
Very nice work on the dash. Only 2 small gauges on the Jag? Most of the cars from that era had the spear to the heart steering column. My TR3A has a steel shaft from the steering box to the steering wheel with no safety features.
I wonder if the owner would have a set of Smiths Jaegar clocks for the car. They would look much more appropriate for the year the car is replicating. I was concerned when I changed my 65 MGB over to negative earth, since the original tach would no longer work. Luckily I found a guy in the UK who sells a bit of electrical magic that has the tach working better than ever.
Would it not have been a solution to install the rack and pinion behind the wheel axis rather than in front ( I think they call this the Ackermann setup)?
I have a huge Ackerman issue to resolve on this build but unfortunately the rack couldn't fit behind the axis as the engine is in the way. I do have a possible solution but will have to see if it can be implemented

hehe thanks for the awesome comment Andy!
Going to follow this awesome project. Congrats!!
awesome craftmanship
I thought for a second it was going to get a light wood dash that would have matched the steering wheel very well ,,, great job as ever ,,,

Looks very good! Love the dash!

I love it! I did something similar with the Bugatti and it's one of my favourite features on the car.
The Jag was all black thou.

Love it how you waste my time! Hypnotic stuff ❤
Whoot Whoot... New episode. I had to admit that I got a bit sad when you painted the dash.... Raw alli always looks awesome... Good work..
Thanks Gary! I agree ali looks better. But it's all in the name of trying to make it look like the original

FANTASTIC
vous êtes exceptionnellement doué, bravo !!! j'adore !!!
Thank you very much!

Same on my 65 MGB. We die like real men, speared by our Les Leston wood wheel.

clever man done a great job well done
Your steering column shafts should sleeve inside each other with a sheer pin so it collapses brother
ohhh what if you did it out of wood to match the steering wheel and used black leather as trim for the edges
Danie this jag looks a million dollars! You are best fabricator on youtube. Once d type is finished will you celebrate 7k subs with new build?
Thanks Joshua! Absolutely! I'm just not sure if I'll have the Jag done when I get to 7k
Genius!
Thanks man-don't waste my time (*pauses, opens 5th packet of cheetos, and returns to 6 hour youtube marathon*).
🤣🤣

You are a wonderful craftsman. I only wish you would stop slurping your tea!
BG, really lekker.
Excellence. Someone has some fairly deep pockets, eh...
Is it to late? That's the wrong side for the wheel!
It is on the right side, that is correct. Lol
@oldblack15 such a nice car is darn shame, I think everyone on Britain is left handed.
Except he’s South African….
