as a gay, im just happy we are getting more "light hearted" stuff like this romcom and Heartstoppers. cause there are a lot of lgbtq movies/shows where i have to be worried a character will be dead by the end.
I go back well before Stonewall. Back then, gay characters were either portrayed as silly while lesbians were often the killers. They couldn't even say the word. Characters were indicated by a limp wrist and a knowing smile. (In the 1960 Hitchcock movie, Psycho, which set new standards for depictions of blood, the first time a toilet was ever shown flushing, the movie opens with an unmarried couple after just obviously having a tryst in a hotel room, it was the inclusion of the word "transvestite" in the explanation at the end which most upset the censors. Hitchcock had to literally show them the dictionary definition that it meant cross-dressing, not some weird underground sexual practice.) I remember how we considered it such a mark of progress was the release of the film, Boys in the Band, a depiction of a bunch of stereotypical bitchy queens. (It kept me in the closet for years as I thought this was how all queer men acted and I had no desire to meet any.) I literally grew up not knowing any gay man. I would hear rumors about some of the top leading men in Hollywood, but my hopes would be dashed when I heard they had a wife (not knowing of bisexuality nor of studio-forced marriages to quell any rumors). I remember when actors of whatever persuasion were terrified to take any such queer role as it might mark them for life.
My goodness YES! I understand that sad stories also need to be shared cause thats reality, but so do good ones. Lest bring back the OG meaning of GAY and let's all have a gay old time especially in the movies💜

@@pixycomet3937 Not another book, unfortunately, though there is the extra chapter from Henry’s POV in the collector's edition they could work off of. The "For Kristy" at the end is a dedication to Taylor's (Alex) sister who was excited to see the first movie he's done where he is the main star but sadly passed away before the movie was released. Another sad fact is that one of Taylor's dogs died while he was filming the cake incident part of the movie and Nick (Henry) and Matthew (the director) tried to cheer him up as much they could.
I can't believe some people have said that Nicholas and Taylor have no chemistry. Their connection felt so organic and effortless. I could feel the angst, the hurt, the longing, the love and the friendship. I really love how the sex scene is so much more than sex, it's truly making love. It was so intimate that I felt like I was intruding on something very personal between two people. This one of the most beautiful, complex romances I've ever seen in a movie. But also a great depiction of what it's like to be in a position where you are afraid to be who you are.
I love how much Roxy loves rom coms. ❤ It's so sweet. When I came out to my mom she told me not to tell anyone so people would thing she didnt raise me right, so when I see sweet scenes like that with him and his mom I always tear up.

The budget for the movie was incredibly low. I think around $50 million. Everything was filmed in England. And many viewers (not me!) complained about the background cgi. Didn’t bother me at all, so I’m glad you were impressed. Delightful review!

I would just like to say I appreciate your open mindedness for this film. Not just because it is a gay film but because it was just a really nice romcom and no it is not academy award winning material but I beleive it is important that the LGBTQ+ community see normal. Some of the reactors, gay and straight, whatched this just to make fun of it. It is not that I think that reactors should not react honestly but just say this is not for me or I didn’t enjoy it but don’t spend the whole movie make fun of it. Also, some might think that a story about the romance between a gay prince and the Bi son of the president is a fairy tale but the real fairy tale here is that a democratic with a bi son won in Texas the most closed minded state in this country. All of us Strangers, it just came out last year, hardest I have cried in a movie for a long time. Andrew Scott gave the performance of his career and was robbed of an Oscar nomination. Deals with romantic love, familial love and love within yourself.
I have seen dozens of reaction videos to this film. I have watched the movie everyday for 3 months - and will continue doing so. This is by far the best viewing of " Red, White and Royal Blue on u-tube. And Roxy, you pretty much spoke for me. Amazing that a man as handsome as Nick could be pushed out of the spotlight by another a beautiful as Taylor. Thanks so much for letting me watch this with you, AND for your post movie comments. ciao
Glad they’re doing a sequel. Hoping they’re getting all the principals back, including Uma, Sarah Shahi and Stephen Fry. Uma and Sarah were perfect in their roles. And this may be because it’s Stephen Fry playing the role, but I just got the sense that the King might potentially be deeply closeted himself. I know the book’s different, but it would be quite the twist if that were to be part of the sequel. You guys might also want to react to Nicholas Galitzine in The Idea of You with Anne Hathaway, and Mary and George with Julianne Moore.
I don't watch much reaction videos of any channel, but gotta say I ABSOLUTELY love watching Roxy's genuine reactions... ESPECIALLY when she's smiling, being giddy and just falling for characters/actors.. She's just like one of us..!! It's a whole vibe..
There is sooo much more in the book you would love the book! In the book Alex is shorter than Henry so that’s what was so cute about the height difference jokes when Taylor is a tiny bit taller than Nick 🤣
Fun facts: - Alex has a sister in the book that moves back after college and lives in the white house, Alex and June are very close - Miguel does not exist in the book but there are other characters and side stories - The book focuses more in politics - In the book you can find the emails that are later hacked. I personally loved that they used an email format and not just regular text - And last but not least, Nora (Alex's best friend) is also bisexual
Roxy's reaction perfectly showcases what happened to *me* when I watched this the first time knowing nothing, how it took over my life and got me hyperfixated, and now after reading the book and millions upon millions of words of fanfics later - I still am 🤣
Lol same. Except I saw the trailer when it first dropped, watched it legit 20 times in a row, and ordered the book which I read twice before the movie came out. Then I watched the movie 4 times on the weekend it released and I'm reading fan fic every single day, I have way too many tabs open and tons of email notifs from AO3 lol.
For RWRB, I do believe it's better to watch the movie first and then read the book. You don't get disappointed that some stuff and characters unfortunately had to get cut off in the movie, and you get great physical references to picture the book scenes.
I agree totally! The book is so wonderful, as is also the movie. But the book is more, their thoughts and reactions come forward, we see everything from Alex's view.
Roxy if you're gonna read a book this year make it this one pleasee, it goes a lot deeper and explores more storylines and characters (Alex has a sister!!), and just shows more of their relationship which truly its what we're all here for ❤
There are a lot of lines that kind of "explain" why some things were changed. Here: they didn't have the time to include it in a 2 hour movie. In the book, Alex says: This changes nothing between us. In the movie, Henry says it, and Alex answers, "I was going to say the same thing." In the movie they do not says Henry's father was a James Bond actor but Henry's car, a lot of Henry's moves are from early James Bond movies.
I loved the reaction! It is a film that allows you to dream, that even though things get bad, love can be above all. The chemistry between the protagonists is incredible, the small gestures, the looks, Henry's panic at feeling like he is in a prison without allowing himself to express his love for Alex. Alex's complete amazement at Henry's first kiss turns his world upside down. How Henry was already in love from the beginning but hid it under layers of conceit and snob and how Alex fell deeply in love when he met the real Henry, being the only one who could see through the armor that protected Henry's heart.
I love how when the first photos and trailer came, people said they had no chemistry.... Also, always fun to see someone fall for TZP that fast :D He's gorgeous and in interviews he seems like the sweetest thing.
What Henry said was... "I am as gay as a maypole." You guys can Google it up! It's basically a tall pole wrapped by colorful cloths. That's why Henry said he is as gay as that.
My husband and I enjoyed the film as well. We were especially happy when we read the sequel screenplay is currently in production, and that the main players have been signed on to recreate their roles. It should be and hopefully will be better than the first.
It's insane how accurately I can quote this movie for having only watched it all the way through a couple times and reading the book twice. I guess I've just watched the individual scenes a million times and memorized them all. I'm glad you're reacting! I also love that you guys mentioned their acting in the Kensington scene after Alex stormed the castle. If I remember correctly, the director said in an interview that they came back to that scene after lunch and Nicholas (Henry) heard Taylor (Alex) start crying behind him while they were doing the scene and it made him cry in response, so they really were reacting to each other. Also, I didn't see anyone mention it yet, but Nicholas Galitzine (Henry's actor) was actually cast to be He-Man in the upcoming Amazon movie, which Andrew's comments about him being in the Arrowverse reminded me of. He's also not naturally blond, they dyed his hair, and he is currently blond again for another movie, along with the RWRB sequel and He-Man.
33:26 - I remember the first time I was intimate with someone, I remember feeling his skin touching mine after we parted ways. I'll never forget how I felt.
I love this movie so much, and Taylor and Nicholas did such an incredible job portraying all sides and shades of Alex and Henry's relationship, it's insane. Chemistry off the charts!!! Also, I love how many times you guys mentioned Henry as a James Bond wannabe, cause you totally missed the part of the debrief that Alex says Henry's dad was a beloved actor that played James Bond before he passed. He is James Bond's son. And a prince. And he has Bond's actual car. So yes, Bond is kinda part of him lol Also, the guy in the end telling the King to tell them not to go public, and calling the king "grandpa" is Henry's older brother, Philip. Not his cousin. He is the heir. Anyways, loved loved loved your reaction, Roxy represented me watching this lol Same reactions lol Love it!
a couple questions answered: - philip, the one who called the king grandpa, is henry's older brother. he was the one getting married in the beginning of the film when our two leads ruined his cake. - the reason alex has the key at the end when they get to the house is because he asked for it right after his mother won her election. henry asks alex what they're going to do next and alex asks him if he still has the key on him (which roxy is right, he wears on the chain under his shirt). the bloopers and deleted scene from the film are adorable, too!
I watched this movie last year, and as a Fellow Gay I'm glad it exists, we need a variety of upbeat gay films, but it was also so damn ridiculous lmao (and I say this as a romcom fan). When Stephen Fry showed up as the homophobic king of England I swear I nearly peed myself from laughing. I sent no-context screenshots of this movie to all my friends in the middle of the night, we all thought this was a collective hallucination.
I love you BOTH so much! This movie is such a FEEL GOOD film and to see Roxy enjoying it so much just makes it even BETTER! Thank you for watching this! ❤
A Maypole is a painted pole, decorated with flowers, around which people traditionally dance on May Day, holding long ribbons that are attached to the top of the pole. "the schoolchildren dance around a short maypole erected on the green
What a pleasant surprise, was not expecting the astute commentary near the end re. art imitating life and its reciprocity. Thank you for reacting to this film. Much appreciated.
I have not read all the comments, because there are many, but the Genious castiing of Stephen Fry as the King (as an openly Gay Man) was wonderful...as was real Journalists!
A May Pole is a feature in a British spring open air gathering. It is literally a large white pole with coloured ribbons attached, people dance around it holding the ribbons to create patterns as they wrap around the pole. The whole thing is very joyous and ‘gay’ in it’s original meaning, hence the phrase associating it with Gay in its more common current usage.
I can't believe you guys finally reacted to our boyssss! Obsessed with them since I read the book in 2022, such a romantic and sexy love story. Roxy represents all of us lol, LOVED her reaction and girl if you read the book you'd freak out, so goooood!
This movie has become my new favorite film since I watched it last year. I have been making a series of videos analyzing it, working on pt. 2 right now. I love that you noticed the level of careful detail. Eg., in the phone-call scene that you mentioned, you do see the phone on the nightstand, as they talk about the name of Henry's dog. Then, when the call ends, we see that the lock screen image on the phone is a dog.
I need to know that Roxy will read the book. The two are so different, but so wonderful. I hope you will do one of these for the sequel that they will begin filming soon. As to some of your questions, there are so many things that werent shown in the movie, but they did happen off camera.
A subtle thing I don’t know if u noticed or not was during the polo scenes when Alex arrives he’s uncomfortable and fidgety about being in a stuffy suit and in an area he doesn’t know a lot about (yes he’s the son of the us president but royalty is in a whole different level of complexity) so he’s fidgety with his suit until he spots Henry! That’s when he becomes comfortable!!
I adore how often you guys compared Henry to James Bond. In the book, Henry's father was actually an actor who was famous for being one of the James Bonds, so I'm betting they added details on purpose. Good on y'all for catching on!
20:03 funny you should say that because that’s exactly what happend in the book (miguel is a film only character and a chamge that i do not understand at all)
I resisted reading the book for years because I thought it was overhyped. Loved the book. Loved them falling in love over texts and emails. Really liked the movie, but missed a few plot lines and characters missing. I think every group deserves a cheesy romance with no sad ending!
Buckingham Palace is the Royal residence. It has tours, just like the White House, but just like the White House there are many areas that are not open to the public. Being a guest at a royal wedding, you get to see some of those areas.
Less than secretly obsessed with this whole story; I listened to the audiobook 3 times prior to the movie and bought the limited edition book with a bonus chapter of what happens after. 😁 Read the book Roxy!!!
Yay thank you guys so much for this amazing and relatable reaction!! I didn’t expect it, love you!! PS: yes Taylor Zakhar Perez (played Alex) is absolutely enchanting!! One of the most gorgeous men I’ve ever seen honestly ugh lol!! 😍🥵🔥 Same with Nicholas Galitzine (played Henry) so freaking pretty!! 🤩💕
Roxy should do more rom coms 😂 She will always be our Scream Queen (Along with Tara ❤) but damn her enthusiasm and passion for these types of movies is just 😂 And Andrew is just sitting there quietly lol love it.
What I would call the central message of the movie came when Alex came back after the breakup and said, "You can go on and live in your castle, but nothing will ever happen to you."
One of the many things I ❤ about this movie is Alex's dad picked up on Alex & Henry ("What's the deal with you and the prince?"Inviting Henry to the vacay house during Labor Day) while his mom had to be told...
since im not seeing any other comments explain, you asked if Phillip was a cousin near the end when he called the king grandpa. He's their older brother. In the book the ages go Phillip, Bea, Henry but I believe in the movie they switched it so henry is the middle child and bea is the youngest. Henry's dad died and his mom is the royal. The king is henry's mom's dad. So yes, grandpa. Alex also has an older sister in the book and older sister issues is one of the first things they bond over. High key recommend reading the book. The movie got the essence but it changed SO MUCH. I read the book first about a week before the movie came out and it took until rewatch of the movie number 4 until i started actually liking it because I was so mad they took all the juice out of the book. Miguel doesn't even exist in the book it's a whole other non-jealousy driven thing that has a lot more dirt to it. Oh also the actors who play the most homophobic characters are both gay in real life (the king and phillip)
I DON'T CARE I'LL TAKE THIS AS A HAPPY PRIDE MONTH GIFT 😭💕 I've read this book an uncountable amount of times since my s/o recommend it to me (around 2019 if i remember correctly?) and it has been one of my top favorites since then, such a beautiful heartwarming romcom. PS: Roxy was a total mood lmao she's been smiling since the beginning of the movie its contagious 😭
I just found you guys here a couple weeks ago and watched your review of " Love, Simon" another favorite of mine. I'm sure someone told you but it was maypole. Anyhow, I am obsessed with this movie. It couldn't have been directed or cast any better than it was. Alex's best friend was the VP's granddaughter even though we never saw the VP. I'm almost embarrassed to say but I've watched this move thirteen times. I can't wait for the sequel. I'm so glad I found you. Can't wait to watch more of your videos. Thanks. PS Nicholas is in the "Idea of You" with Ann Hathaway. Hope you review that one it's great too.

Roxy made this video 10x better “Oh yeah stretch those hips for later”. I’m dead.
I am living for Roxy getting hot under the collar for the gays. So funny!
😂❤
Roxy is so real for this reaction
Fun facts:
- Alex has a sister in the book that moves back after college and lives in the white house, Alex and June are very close
- Miguel does not exist in the book but there are other characters and side stories
- The book focuses more in politics
- In the book you can find the emails that are later hacked. I personally loved that they used an email format and not just regular text
- And last but not least, Nora (Alex's best friend) is also bisexual
Taylor is very charismatic in the role
Roxy if you're gonna read a book this year make it this one pleasee, it goes a lot deeper and explores more storylines and characters (Alex has a sister!!), and just shows more of their relationship which truly its what we're all here for ❤
Their chemistry is unreal.
They should do a sequel and call it Red, White & something Blue…and it’s their wedding!!!
already has a confirmed sequence
and the cake drop on them again at the end of their wedding
“If I’d had more warning I could have made you a PowerPoint presentation”
In the book she did 😂
There are a lot of lines that kind of "explain" why some things were changed. Here: they didn't have the time to include it in a 2 hour movie.
In the book, Alex says: This changes nothing between us. In the movie, Henry says it, and Alex answers, "I was going to say the same thing."
In the movie they do not says Henry's father was a James Bond actor but Henry's car, a lot of Henry's moves are from early James Bond movies.
45:44 “he is like the dreamiest perfect dream man ever” ❤
I just found this channel and Roxy had me kicking my feet with her 😂
Roxy is absolutely the best. Can't wait for her Breaking Dawn part 2 reaction! Thank you Roxy!
❤ 🌈 🫶
Roxy thirsting over Alex is so funny and correct
Such a great reaction! 🥰😂 Almost a year from the release, and still love to see people discovering this beautiful love story! ❤️🤍💙
A great movie to watch to finish Pride month 🏳️🌈
This is my favourite GAY movie ever. I want a relationship like these two.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
What Henry said was... "I am as gay as a maypole." You guys can Google it up! It's basically a tall pole wrapped by colorful cloths. That's why Henry said he is as gay as that.
Glad someone was paying attention to what he(Henry)said to Alex.❤
A sequel was JUST CONFIRMED so we are getting more of them!!!!
Philip is Henry's older brother (not a cousin) and "heir to the throne" (Henry tells Zahra he is the "spare").
a couple questions answered:
- philip, the one who called the king grandpa, is henry's older brother. he was the one getting married in the beginning of the film when our two leads ruined his cake.
Andrew is sooo cute and wholesome, i love him reacting
He’s the greatest
I have a crush on him!
The whole thing is very joyous and ‘gay’ in it’s original meaning, hence the phrase associating it with Gay in its more common current usage.
the chemistry was definitely chemistrying i was giggling the entire movie
I can't believe you guys finally reacted to our boyssss! Obsessed with them since I read the book in 2022, such a romantic and sexy love story. Roxy represents all of us lol, LOVED her reaction and girl if you read the book you'd freak out, so goooood!
8:36 Actually, in the book, Henry's dad was an actor who was famous for playing James Bond lol
I always love Roxy's reactions. She cracks me up.
the girl on the floor typing on the computer on the night of the election is the author of the book.
12:59 my grandmother loves Rachael Maddow too 😭
I need to know that Roxy will read the book. The two are so different, but so wonderful. I hope you will do one of these for the sequel that they will begin filming soon. As to some of your questions, there are so many things that werent shown in the movie, but they did happen off camera.
was NOT expecting this reaction but i am so happy its here!! love the book and love the movie
20:03 funny you should say that because that’s exactly what happend in the book (miguel is a film only character and a chamge that i do not understand at all)
Philip is the older brother, the heir to the throne. He addressed his grandpa officially.
p.s. I believe that Kristy was Taylor Zakar-Perez's sister who passed away the year the movie was released.
Side note but Roxy’s hair looks so pretty!!
Less than secretly obsessed with this whole story; I listened to the audiobook 3 times prior to the movie and bought the limited edition book with a bonus chapter of what happens after. 😁 Read the book Roxy!!!
I love how they say that the B in LGBTQIA+ isnt silent.💜
I love them so so much
I clicked so fast!!! My new favorite comfort film!!!
What I would call the central message of the movie came when Alex came back after the breakup and said, "You can go on and live in your castle, but nothing will ever happen to you."
Roxy Striar " I would break the sound barrier for you" :)
Your reactions, babes, is literally all of us when we watched it 😂
henry's father (who is an actor) is actually james bond, so it's really cool that you guys noticed so many similarities
One of the many things I ❤ about this movie is Alex's dad picked up on Alex & Henry ("What's the deal with you and the prince?"Inviting Henry to the vacay house during Labor Day) while his mom had to be told...
ha ha as a gay guy this made me so happy!great reaction guys
since im not seeing any other comments explain, you asked if Phillip was a cousin near the end when he called the king grandpa.
I DON'T CARE I'LL TAKE THIS AS A HAPPY PRIDE MONTH GIFT 😭💕
I've read this book an uncountable amount of times since my s/o recommend it to me (around 2019 if i remember correctly?) and it has been one of my top favorites since then, such a beautiful heartwarming romcom.
They have hooked up irl energy for sure.
Thank you for this lovely reaction! Ps: Roxy looks just like Taylor's sister, Maria Zhakar, I'm shocked
You guys should watch the bloopers 😂
@@gigin6534 and deleted scenes!
The way I'm already tearing up before even watching the reaction! My favorite reactors reacting to my favorite movie! ❤
