One of Rakim's best cuts that gets slept on.
This song samples the AL Green song, 'I'm So Glad You're Mine'...you should check it out to compare the song's production.
It hit different if you grew up listening to AL.

Man, I remember the 1st time I heard this song when it came out. I was in High school and we lost our FKN MINDS! When the beat dropped from the jump, you KNEW it was a banger!

Mahogany is the color of a brown wood. Which is the name of the girl he's kicking it to. Mahogany!!

Dope track. One of the rare times Rakim cursed. But it had more impact because he did. It was about fucking around with a honey and forgetting about other shit, haha.

Mahogany was a Black European girl like the model Naomi Campbell.

Your critique of this track is well done, and I appreciate your thoughts. I would also suggest you give Put Your Hands Together off the Follow the leader LP. I would like to hear your reaction to that track.

You broke this whole song down wrong! Its about him meeting a Sister. He never gave her anything but intelligent conversation and it stimuated her mind which made her perk up. That's what finesse is

I get why tracks like these don’t resonate with some of the newer listeners…it’s not the face melting flow/lyrics that attracted them to Ra…and if they aren’t familiar with the OG Al Green song, then they may not totally get with the vibe. One note tho…I notice a lot of reactors assume that all of EB&R tracks were produced by Eric B….that’s definitely not the case…even in some instances where he’s credited as such. The late great Paul C. and the legendary Large Professor were pretty much responsible for the music on this album.

I appreciate you explaining that misconception.

You gotta listen to the song as a whole yall youngstas stop the track to disect every line to get the gist and stop being so literal its poetry...I don't know why yall feel like you have to explain every line, half the time you're wrong just listen

There's multiple reasons why, as reactors, we have to pause the tracks. But for me, I do this when I listen to music in general. Whether it be a funny or serious moment within the song, I pause so I can process what I just heard. Also, if I am wrong about something, I know someone will correct me, or I'll own up to my mistakes.

I'm saying the same thing. The flow isn't meant to be constantly stopped like this. I know there's restrictions and you got to do this but it's a massacre to the song! It's actually kind of disrespectful to the song and the artist. It's meant to be listened to beginning to end.

Do yourself a favor. Don't guess and assume what every lyric is about. Hold that "ADD" and listen to the whole story before you try to guess what's going on. Not trying be a jerk, but kids these days... I grew up when this came out. If you want to play Socrates, listen to some bdp. Kris will blow your mind. Try "my philosophy" if you haven't experienced it yet.
And don't let jerks opinions piss you off. Like mine.
    Subscribed, keep it up

This album (Let the Rhythm hit em') is considered the worst of the 3 they did together. However the 1st 2 Albums were fire.

I'm not going to lie, I think I'm *WAY* to young to appreciate "Paid In Full". Outside of "Move The Crowd", I really did not enjoy the album personally...
