I made one a few days ago and attached it in place of my meduim grit wheel i'd been using for sharpening my lathe tools. I put 320 grit sandpaper on it and what a difference! It's so nice to work with sharp smooth tools for once and it's so much quicker and so easy to just give it a touch up. Tyvm!
The sandpaper tightening screw is absolutely genius! If I haven't said it before, your machine designs are incredible. And the build quality is exquisite. Your entire shop is certainly of the highest of echelon.
That was pretty awesome. I loved the mechanism you used to mount the sandpaper on the grinding wheel. Nice approach to the sharpening jigs for all the different lathe gouges! Thanks for sharing!
I have been watching numerous videos on knife sharpening systems and have taken the features that I like from many to design my own using with both an abrasive wheel and a polishing wheel (MDF wheel with polishing rogue). My plan calls for the abrasive wheel to spin at about half the speed of the polishing wheel. I hadn't quite figured out how I was going to attach the sanding cloth to my grinding wheel (plywood). Your technique is ingenious! Thanks for the great video.
Good job! The tensioning system for the sanding belt was easy, but genious! Very versatile machine, this lathe. Looking forward to what else you can build for it!
Cada vez que me animo a realizar algún proyecto en mi taller observo tus vídeos ya que me dan muchas ideas, definitivamente eres un grande y muy prolijo al trabajar! Éxitos, sigue así! Idolo!
Okay, I just found your channel. And not only am I subscribed but I am hooked, After one video! Your inventiveness is beyond awesome. I can't wait to go back through your catalog and watch what else you've done.
@@Paoson_Woodworking I tried to use this method to make a similar wheel for my bench grinder but found it problematic. When I could get the sand paper to tighten with out the slotted bolt cutting or breaking the fabric it was still too loose and would pull away under the centrifugal force. I tried several times with different paper but it always went slack then broke free and whipped me pretty badly.
Great video! Question would it be possible for you to discuss how you make your table saw height adjustments. Reason, it appears in previous videos that the height adjustment involves you reaching inside and pushing the saw up and down I have always wondered how you have you have managed to set the saw blade height accurately while reaching inside the table saw housing. Possibly a video on advanced basics using your machines. Thank you for sharing your knowledge advice and your meticulous attention to detail and an advanced apology for the silly questions of a simple minded individual.
Would you please explain how to hold the two ends of the emery close to the wheel. How deep and wide is the slot and how does tightening the screw keep the ends of the emery cloth from coming loose? Thank you.
Wonderful ! - well thought out design to handle a rather routine task. I have just one observation to make : with the wheel spinning clockwise and the point of the chisel facing upward, there is a possibility, however small, that the leading edge of the chisel can catch the groove on the periphery of the wheel and lead to a catastrophic event. It would be safer to have the wheel spin anticlockwise, and avoid this.

thanks mate!
You constantly come up with such simple, but at the same time, such ingenious things. I admire your work.
thank you so much!
you have made so simple, solving some complicated issues at little but with elegance ,love the woodturning chisel guide
You found a way to make a very affective system with simple tools. This is excellent and thanks for sharing!
I truly admire your intelligence and craftsmanship. Very awesome creation and thank you for sharing.

As always, very impressive. Also a very clever solution to tighten the sandpaper. Never seen that before.

@@dianastasny9338 Did you use CLOTH sandpaper or 'paper' sandpaper? The cloth doesn't brake.

Love it!!! and also how you make work with what you have.

Do you have video of your drill press? Looks awesome.. small but i think sturdy enough for wood works,
thanks! take a look:

Excelente, como siempre!
Does the gap where the sandpaper goes in the wheel not flap too much when holding something against it ? friendly greetings, Jörgen
hi Jörgen, as you can see in the video, the wheel works quite well. When the wheel is spinning it seems that the gap does not exist!
thx for the fast respons. the split bolt to tighten it, is a very good idea!. might use it in the future for something like that :-).
Brilliant!
exelente, buena pieza. 👍🎖👍🎖👍

I'm using the circular saw lifting system, but I want to design a more comfortable system, take a look:

u need and old belt u can put on your wheel like the sand paper to use as a stropping/polishing wheel
now that i watched all the lathe videos i have to ask, did u try reshaping an old chisel on your belt sander? did this work better?
Absolutely fantastic, great work :)
Awesome, tnx for sharing it bro!! :D
