how have i not heard about this game? a game that mixes metroid with a chao garden? that sounds awesome.
I was just thinking that. This game looks unbelievable and I never heard or saw anything about it
Another one in a similar spirit is Henry Hatsworth. Similar idea, but more like a Megaman platformer plus a Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine (but the beans can kill you if you don't take care of them on the bottom screen). The two also look REALLY similar.
@GidiGoatGuy It's decent, but the game is actually very linear with just a lot of backtracking to make it feel "Metroidvania" like.
@@tufftim1HD There's a reason it didn't do better--it's short, linear, and owes a lot to Henry Hatsworth, which it is a spin-off of (Henry is referenced in the game).
Yes! This game is way too good to be forgotten. I wish that 3ds remake that was rumored actually happened
It wasn't rumored. The devs straight up said its happening. They said it way back in 2014 with no news since until last year where they finally said... that its still coming. Now coming to modern consoles
Just recently played this for a
the first time. Very enjoyable. Shame the remake may never see the light of day
Now this is where a kickstarter would work so well for Dreamrift and Peter Ong.
@@benlink202forever even though i'm a little surprised there's never been a kickstarter, i think it's understandable. people would be less likely donate since the game already exists in some way. if they took it a step further with more content people would be more inclined to donate then. regardless, i'm glad i got to play the game.
Played it to the finish before, the map exploration was a bit lacking for a metroidvania, but Chomp made up for it
This has potential for a remake as an indie on pc and switch!! Will try on my ds later though
the world ends with you got a remake. It's never too late to start now :)
Oh wow... a region locked show that actually covers a US only game..
@@beatsinmyhead9919 It would be awesome if a sequel was made for the switch, because it does state at the end that one day Ellie would one day return to the Monster World :)
I remember seeing this game on Nintendo power back in 2011 and begging my mom to get it. She eventually got it and I still get it out every year and replay it. Definitely one of my favorite uses of the duel screens of the ds.
Japan will never know the masterpiece that is jimmy neutron attack of the twonkies
Wikipedias a funny thing
I still have the GBA cartridge in one of my drawers. It was interesting for the time, but yeah just a generic game. I was such a Jimmy Neutrons fan as a early teen.
God I actually have that game. Fudge me I have a bunch of weird games from my childhood
Anyone notice that Meade seemed to be Based on Sora and Priscilla on Peach?
Love Monster Tale! Was really hoping that 3DS remaster would've come to fruition
Same here. I missed the original, so when the 3DS remaster was announced, I was kinda excited… but now Nintendo is giving up on the 3DS, so I wonder if it’ll ever actually happen.
This game actually looks really fun! The art style is quite charming as well.
Soooooo metroidvania meets Digimon? Sounds neat.
There's a Metroidvania- and Pokémon-inspired game in development called Monster Sanctuary. I don't want to make it seem like I'm getting paid to talk about it, but so far, it's been pretty neat (there's a demo available). I think it's mainly being developed by one guy, so it's not going to look nearly as pretty as Monster Tale, but it feels like a pretty original pairing of genres.
A friend introduced me to it, played for about half an hour and I was hooked. Very fun game, shame to see it didn't get nearly enough attention as it deserved. Underrated gem.
I’m happy to see that someone talked about this in 2019 I loved this game and I still have it
I remember seeing this in a Nintendo Power article as a kid and subsequently picking it up when I recognized it at the game store months later. Its kind of a "Baby's first Metrovania" while still being super solid in both progression and level design, while inevitably working in the use of both DS screens. Kind of a big game for my childhood!
I miss this game so much. I wish more people new about it. :(
I saw this in Nintendo Power and I really wanted it but sadly I didn't have a job yet at the time so I couldn't buy it but now I might actually try tracking down a copy.
Good luck with that, the game has become a little bit of a collector’s item now and days, good luck finding a copy for under 50... 😂
@@tomapple64 or find it at Gamestop. There's one near me that has it for $3.
Same. Nintendo Power is how I originally found out about this game and also another DS game called Solatorobo.
PrimoOutlaw and most likely the game is a loose cart. GameStop throws out ds cases. Most people I know don’t like to buy ds games loose. But if you just want to play the game... it’s an option. And also you might be lucky because none of my local GameStops have a copy and it’s not available for shipping due to how rare it is. So you should prolly pick up that copy in your area before people find out it’s really hard to find
super underrated game!! i came across this game a few years ago and had a blast playing it. don't know why this never gets mentioned in videos, even in "underrated ds games" videos, but definitely the definition of hidden game.
This game was near impossible for young me. It was so much fun tho
I didn’t know anyone else knew of this. This game fuckin bops
"Not far into the game she gains the power of melee attacks with her tote bag."
Lol. You have have found A BRICK. Store it in your bag and gain a NEW ATTACK. 🤣🤣
OH MY GOD! One of my favorite DS hidden gems gets the DYKG spotlight! This game is good, and I have Nintendo Power to thank for introducing it to me.
I recently completed this underrated gem of a game. I was so impressed by it, I put Ellie and others in a project I'm working on. I highly recommend Monster Tale.
I love monster tale thank you for making this video to my favorite game in fact I didn't know that is game was exclusively in the us
Also I love the soundtrack in this game it is one of if not my favorite soundtrack in video games of all time
Cyan Star9 this game is a National treasure. Too bad they made no new games since. Rip.
Thank you so much for bringing atention to this game. It is so underrrated to the point of being pratically unknown, and it's such a great game imo ;w;
Great game. Home the devs do something in the future. They seem insanely talented.
If I was old enough to work at the time, I probably would have bought it.
Please make a video on the Japan Exclusives "Monster Hunter" for NDS: Kaiju Busters and Kaiju Busters Powered
And maybe of the All Kamen Rider Generations series (for its absurdly huge playable character roster for a beat'em up and many, MANY actions for each character)
Just sold my copy on Amazon, then open UA-cam and see this. Thanks Region Locked!
I actually played this years ago and was actually fun at the time. Still good
This one flew under my radar. Thanks for the tip.
Stopped video because you made it look so cool I have to check it out for myself (and don't want to spoil!).
Thanks for featuring it. :)
Recently only learned about this game last January when I randomly bought the used game at a store. It was a nice surprise to see a Region Lock cover of it.
When I bought this game when it launched, I knew it was something special. Never regretted it and it’s still on my shelf to this day. One of my favorites :)
This looks super cute~ I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for any 3DS remake news now. This looks fun.
Such an underrated game. I remember it very fondly
I hate to hear that the remake probably isnt coming to fruition. This game is great, if you're interested in it and see it somewhere, definitely pick it up.
Oh, and be careful while trying to level Chomp. You can get to max level and not unlock the next form on accident.
This is actually one of my favorite games of all time and and honestly so existed and shocked to see it in my sub feed
This was a good game. Glad to see a video about it.
Man, this is nostalgic! I was a kid when I played this and I remember it being so hard... wish I still had it though
God, I remember ads and articles about this game in old Nintendo Power issues. This video game me some real nostalgia right now.
Juggling enemies was the most fun thing. Ellie's battle cries were gr8 too
Never knew about both their game releases until watching this episode. Gonna need to check them out now.
They should rework I for the switch and put it on the eShop. Let us play it on a big screen. I love the game on DS (Day 1 buy), but would pick it up again on Switch in a heartbeat.
Played this game when it came out and loved it!... Glad it's getting some attention now
Seems interesting. Gotta go hunt for this now. Gonna do some more research on the developers too
I remember I got this game for my Birthday along with Pilotwings on the 3DS.
That tiny voiceover “pfft” at the end when the confetti canon went off had me dying.
oh hey I had Monster Tale! It was a fun time! I should replay it sometime...
Oh wow, I actually have this game! Highly recommended
Holy fuck I remember playing this demo at Walmart for like an hour, it was so much fun and then I completely forgot about it. Glad to have been reminded that it exists
This game is such an underrated gem, it's wonderful
im from canada and i never heard of this game. i really dig the art style.
This is literally my favorite game from my childhood and no one talks about it
Who is this Peter ong? So idealistic, like a young iwata
Why haven't I heard of him before 😂
This is the only Metroidvania game I’ve ever played.
I thought that having to back track constantly would ruin the experience, but it didn’t bother me in the siltiest.
Watching this makes me want to play more Metroidvainias.
Man what a great looking game. I hope we get to see it re-released in some form one day
I remember when my mom got me this game when I was little! I played the heck out of this game back then! I had it not too long ago because I played it on my 3DS like crazy! I honestly don't remember what happened to it. I think I lost the cartridge when I moved into my apartment recently.
I knew this looked familiar! I had a sprite sheet of Ellie saved on my computer for many years now. I can't recall why I had them in the first place (probably liked her simple design) and they just sat in my computer TO THIS DAY!!
I bought this have back in 2011 and loved it as a kid. Unfortunately, I lost the cartridge and forgot the name of the game, so I was sure I would never play it again. Thanks for making this video and reminding me of one of my childhood favorite games.
I picked up this game for $5 and it's great
For five bucks, it's a steal, no doubt. But not quite a classic in my book.
@@rayminishi689 should probably clarify that this didn't just happen, this was in 2012 in a five below
It’s been over a year since I beat this game and seeing this video brings back fond memories. Very fun game!
I would love to pay for some kickstarter or something for the remake on the 3ds, even if the 3ds is dying out
OH MY GOD IM SO GLAD S O M E O N E RECOGNISED MONSTER TALE
Never knew about this one, looks neat!
I love this game so much. Easily the most underrated title in the DS library in my book. I wish more people knew about it so there'd be more demand for DreamRift to release that remake they've been sitting on for years now :(
I love this game so much. When I moved the UK I was shocked that my friends hadnt heard of it. I found out later that it was a rare case of American exclusivity.
They announced the enhanced 3DS remake years ago but it never came to fruition.
Also one boss has this crazy good voice line when he beats you "YOU shall Burn...IN THE FIRE!!!"
I remember reading about this game and bought the last copy at Toys R Us. It was a blast to play and beat over and over again and still sometimes play it to this day
I loved this game when it came out. Such a fun and unique experience. Still makes me sad that this and their other work never got the recognition it deserved
Loved this game as a kid, highly recommend!
Loved this game, still have it
I LOVE this game I still have my complete copy and play it from time to time.
I should get my hands on this game. Thanks for letting us know about this game!!
I forgot about this game! I really had fun with this one.
This game sounds like a lot of fun!
Still have this game, loved it when i played it, kinda want to try it again
Oh wow, I didn't know this was only released over here.
Watching that juggling at work, it's DEFINITELY from the same guys as Henry Hatsworth. I gotta look about trying this game out!
I somehow remember playing this game when I was still just a kid
God, i remember i could never find a copy of this game when it came out. I was told a lot of retailers didnt really put out original games cause they didnt sell too well if i wasnt popular enough and the ds library was dying so it was a waste of time to put it on shelves. Im still waiting for that 3ds remake but at this point, might as well find a copy on amazon. I hope these guys are still around. These guys are some rare individuals that need more attention in an oversaturated age.
I have such positive memories of this game but they’re also so vague
I got this game on a trip to usa, owned it for a long time and had no clue it was usa exclusive. Its a really fun game
This actually sounds like the most awesome game ever w/ cool mechanics and all that stuff...
hey, i remember seeing this one in nintendo power! i think ill track it down and finally give it a try!
I never heard of this game, which is a shame because it looks pretty good.
It was honestly an interesting title. I remember hunting enemies for certain toys or snacks in order to help chomp grow in different ways. You could also revert its age and change its element on the fly.
Yeah, it seems to have a lot going on for it. Too bad is stuck on DS. If they ever port this to Switch I will give it a go.
Played this game back when it first came out. Loved it so so much as an 11 year old. Beat it twice in a row and it still remains the cause of my love of metroidvania games
I was waiting for Ong to start talking about "where we basically take the camera, anywhere we want..."
This sounds pretty awesome tbh
Freaking loved this game
This looks great. I want a copy now.
You've made me feel nostalgic for the quirky, experimental games of the 7th generation.
I actually remember reading about this in Nintendo Power
How did I not know of this!?
I grew up with this game. So underrated
I remember getting this game after hearing about it in Nintendo Power. Had a lot of fun with it.
I fucking love this game so much
Finally someone is talking about this game again. Such an underrated gem.
