Depending on use and environment, tubes can last many thousands of hours. Best practices include keeping a mic dust free (dust cover on whenever not in use) humidity and temperature controlled environment and letting tubes warm up for 10-20 minutes before use to get the best sound. It's rare to need to replace the tubes, unless you leave them on 24/7 in an active working studio or you have other extrenuating circumstances that cause issues. For me this mic was bought/sold and then I bought it back to have a stereo pair. It was in a basement (cement walls) with poor humidity control and not well taken care of for some time and had some nasty crackles and sputtering when I got it back. Tube replacement fixed it up for me.
I'm about to do the same to my AT4060 and stumbled onto this vid. Very informative, thank you so much for taking the time to make this!
Thanks! These E.H. Gold tubes have made a beautiful but subtle change well worth looking into. I bet you will love them!
