For 2023-2024, "Ditto" won for "Song of the Year" at the Asia Artist Awards, Golden Disc Awards, Korean Music Awards, Melon Music Awards, and Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA)...pretty much swept almost all of the end of the year awards shows.
thanks for this great reaction! and yes you are pretty spot on in your interpretation. camera girl (heesoo) is lonely and has made up an imaginary world where shes part of newjeans, she only ever sees them through a screen and its about the relationship between fans and idols and how fans use kpop to help them through tough times... and yes she finally realises that however her escapism in kpop helps her at the end shes still alone.. so she forgets newjeans and moves on with boy... she swaps her imaginary world for reality. The ending always throws people and i think its meant to.... but if you remember earlier (its brief but its there) she is actually just watching white noise on a tv screen... i think thats whats happening at the end.. what we see on the screen is what shes seeing in her head as shes reminising and going back to listening to some newjeans. The official mv (not the performance one) of 'OMG' is a sort of 3rd part to this and i think you will love the video.... all i will say remember the phone ringing in this video and heesoo not answering.. just remember that bit.. OMG is linked to this but is the opposite to this as it shows how fans can affect the idols (as oppose to how idols can affect fans in this) PLEASE DO THAT NEXT!!! :)
The music video director was inspired by an old Korean movie about time travel, but the MV tells a different story. To me, the story is about something special you see and feel when you're young, something only you can experience. It could be a dream, a connection with idols, or anything unique to you. But eventually, you get tired of no one understanding this special part of your life. So, you decide to move on and leave it behind. But the video hints that this special thing might still be there, even after you grow up, as shown at the end of Side B. Here's an interesting detail: @banheesoo did release "OMG" MV in her channel in 2023, fulfilled her 24-year-long dream. Maybe the message is that even if no one understands your dreams or experiences when you're young, they don't disappear. It might just take time for others to see what you see, or for your dreams to come true. Another layer to the story. The producer of NewJeans had a "Y2K dream" before leaving her previous company (SM). Now, with the success of NewJeans, it seems like that dream is being fulfilled in a way. Maybe the MV might also mirror her journey.
As the other commented wrote, Ditio is part of a 2 song Mini E.P. the other song is OMG. Def try to watch it's official M.V. There are 3 E.P.s - NewJeans - OMG - Get Up
