The Avett Brothers perform "Down With The Shine" in this extended session of Billboard's Tastemakers series.
Are you kidding me, these guys are gems on the American music scene. And I do not live there, I live in Asia. And here too, they are gems.
Today I lost my twelve years old cat, named Zuca, can't stop listening to this song, it gives me comfort mixed with some sadness that the ending of a life brings.

There's still nothing that beats the NPR Tiny Desk version of this song.
stanleythemanley44 Agreed. RicK Rubin forever changed the way they intended to sing and play this song. They started playing this at live shows in 2007. And it was 100% consistent with the NPR version. Fast forward to ILY, and the successors, and we get a studio version that lacks any punch or passion.

Every time I watch...every new song....every new video (to me), ...I get so stoked!
This year the oldest unit sang this as their final song before they left for the last time as campers. Camp is home and listening to this song makes me cry knowing that next year that will be me crying my eyes out before leaving my home as a camper for the last time. It has been years since this song came out, but it still touches the heart today

i'm pretty sure he has a guitar sortof strap that holds the weight, otherwise he would drop it everytime he moved his hand. but he rocks it still!

Ok version of the song.... What's with the SLOWness.....it's like maple syrup and the real Avetts are frenetic and powerful.
