Nice video! We have 2 690´s and the cabs are completely rusted through, since our farm is right by the sea, and winters tend to be somewhat windy around here... On our ´84 4x4 we removed the cab and replaced it with a black Sankey cab of a MF390. A bit of a hassle, really, we had to modify the gas tanks, as the black cab did not have a flat floor, and on the 390´s, the gas tank is on top of the engine. There were a few other things we had to do as well. We recently aquired a Highline cab of a 390, which we intend to use on our ´86 2 wheel drive one. I love these tractors. Too bad about the rust though.
I was told that the cabs were made in Italy and they used really poor quality steel which is why they all rot out. Never seen a 690 cab that wasn't rotten
@@thefunkyfarmer massey even used wax oil on them as they felt so bad about the rust . it was a time when farming was not making money , so massey says .. hence the cheap metal
Quick question if you have time, what's the story with the PTO lever to switch on/off the PTO? With ours you have to knock off the tractor to disengage the PTO? Is there something we're missing? Thanks.
thefunkyfarmer Yes once turned on the PTO will not turn off again while the engine is running for some reason. Tried looking at the linkages from the lever down to the chassis but I'm not sure how it works. Seems to be a totally different from the setup we were used to on the 135, 165 & 390T.
a fella who i worked for still had two 590's ones a turbo and 575 and a 595 .. the best one is the 2wd drive 595 . boy did that thing shift in its day ,, did you ever think about painting a mixture of oil and diesel on the paint work .. or would that of taken to much time .... love the vids ..
I think it was too late to do anything about the rust. We got rid of it because it was a poor starter as well as the rust. A good tractor in its day but i dont regret selling it
Nice tractor, sad to see it go but sure it will only be causing bother, 80hp is very light for a tractor of its size!?! Sure the 290 is 75hp.... thanks for the vids about it, very interesting.
Hey Richard if you do live in south england if you know the town Prescott then I know of a small event called the vscc, they go mud plugging old cars, maybe if you want to film something different, you could come, I can give you exact location or details
My 1985 has a good radio, heating system fuel cap under the door.
The 70s ones are older style

Do you mean turn off the tractor? You shouldn't have to do that

well that definitely isn't right. You should be able to turn it off when the engines running
