That’s true. I just want to point out that it’s important to not misconstrue what you’ve said as the fundamental reason of why we should treat kids better. I’m not saying that was your intention (it may or may not have been) but rather that some people may conclude that from your comment. We should treat kids respectfully because that’s how we would treat any other group of human beings. Not because treating children respectfully results in adults that are more sound. The latter is just using kids for our own gain whereas what Tamiur was trying to say is that we should treat kids better because kids are full human beings too.

Duuuude taimur always says literally *exactly* what I'm thinking. This is insane. I've always felt that children are so de-humanized. Being the youngest in a family of 4 kids, i was the only kid and all my siblings were teenagers. I remember being so marginalised and ignored. It sucked. I made an oath then to never treat children as if I'm better than them just because I'm older than them. To be completely honest, i never had a superiority complex in my life, so deciding to be good to children no matter how much younger they are from me, came so naturally to me. Children teach us to live in the moment, enjoy life, practice mindfulness, and be relaxed. In truth, i learn more from children than i do from adults. I love that you both talked about this. This topic needs more attention nowadays, and I'm glad you made a video on this.
When we treat our kids as full people, as much as we are... I think it would help them kinda grow up faster into a person.. And they'd be able to adapt the adult society much easier than if they were treated as little beings all their childhood. I agree with this quote. But, I also believe that in some circumstances, it is okay, acceptable, and even the best choice to give up. One example would be if you try with all of your might to convince your crushk, maybe even force or guilt-trip them, into liking you or having feelings for you that they don't want to have or even feel. One could say that it is okay and respectable to give up as the long term benefits outweigh the short term ones. Long term would be being able to move on and find people that like you (genuinely) for who are and learning to let go, while short term could be maintaining a sense of love and/or infatuation. I'm not trying to argue or anything, I was just inspired by Taimur's involvement in the conversation in this video.

As someone who also has an interest in child psychology (based on my own experiences as a child and teenager), listening to Taimur speak so eloquently in such a well-informed and educated manner about this topic, it was truly heartening. A kids world is really small, but they dont realize it - that small world is their whole world. We have to understand this and treat them respectfully. How a kid is treated really dictates how the kid will turn out down the line.
This is a very touching content. I also wanted to advocate for children's welfare. I remember when I was in high school, we went into a juvenile detention center to do an outreach program. There was this activity where the children shared their stories. A lot of them were street children who got into trouble, some didn't even know their parents. Growing up in a developing country, I witnessed the reality of life from a very young age. Life is hard so I had this paradigm that I should study hard and work hard so I can live comfortably. But hearing their perspectives, I realized how I am still privileged to eat 3 times a day, study, and dream. Those children didn't have that opportunity. I remembered the look in their eyes, the desperation to receive love, to be valued, to study, to dream, to have a purpose, and to be guided to a better path in life. Sheen, thank you for sharing this. I suddenly remembered another part of me that was gradually fading. Children are precious.
where i come from growing up there was this thing where when parents/adult are going out and a kid says i want to come along, we were told to go wear/find our shoes and before we got back the parent/adult had gone leaving us behind.
I say this with great sadness; at least you got bribed, not that that is great but it is an amelioration compared to more abusive alternatives. This issue around children not being treated as cognizant beings with agency is an incredibly pertinent conversation and it becomes more nuanced with the degree of intersectionality. It is also important to recognise that children's brains are still developing and thus they do not yet have the capacity to self-regulate distressing experiences, hence they are more likely to get overwhelmed and that can present in the form of what we have come to understand as a 'child throwing a tantrum'. Appreciated listening to both of your thoughts.

This was great, it really expanded my thoughts on what I've thought before on how children are kind of deprived or stripped of the saying "I will treat you as an adult, as long as you follow my rules." (That's something a few of my teachers in elementary to middle school said to me, or their classes, in the U.S, when I was at that age) I look forward to trying to make a conversation with my friend on this topic tomorrow! I'm curious to see what they think. I just thought of this. I feel like adolescents/teenagers and young adults are also dehumanized and not regarded as a full human. What do you think? And I feel like just because someone learns from their past when their older doesn't mean or guarantee that everyone else has, or that the problems with childhood have magically gone away. But only while listening to him. 2 days later I am hanging out with my nephew and after a 30 minute screaming session, I find myself telling him - Every time you utter a word for the next hour, god kills a puppy.
It can be hard to think of children as full people, when even as unborn babies, we don’t think of them as full people, to the extent that they don’t have a “full” right to life, that can be superseded by that of other people’s. If we accept that age 18 is just an as an arbitrary measure of adulthood, and that it doesn’t make sense to not consider children under the age of 18 as full people, isn’t the situation of being outside or inside the womb an equally arbitrary measure of whether you’re a full person or not?
He made a point about how we all are going to forget those little lies because it did not impact us in any way. In surtain situations (for example) you dont want to have your kid all over the floor crying in the supermarker for something , but you also dont have enough money, so you lie. Its not a big deal to lie to a kid. Given the fact that they are probably going to forget it in less than 2 days. This whole thing about "treating kids as adults" its simply illogical. Of course that abuse its a serious topic, but this is a little over the line and something i did not entirely agree with.

I see clearly that only in the nordics kids are allowed to be kids: noisy, active, with own opinion, with the right to say “no”. Even silly example when kids are allowed to play in puddles and get their clothes be dirty and destroyed, while in the UK kids should wear a uniform to school since the age of 4, right? But you point of view is also possible)
