Really digging slap ball so far. I think some sort of shot clock or hold limit could be nice. A team with a lead can really slow things down as the rules currently stand
This game felt a lot better than the first 2 for sure. The offense seemed like it was more coordinated, but I think another big part of it was that defenses changed up a bit. There wasn't as much of just 4 player zones in/around the crease and a lot more man to man and movement happening on defense. Makes the sport more dynamic and easier to watch as a spectator imo.
@@aurorarodriguez5890 when they played that 1-2-1 they were getting diced up so they moved to man in the second half. Playing tight like that screens the goalie bad, that’s why D’aversa was getting slapped on
i suggested in the comments of the first game some sort of rule limiting the number of defensive players in the crease to prevent this and make defenses get creative. but these guys are smart and make great content, it seems like they figured out how to make it fun and interesting without changing the rulebook which is great. hope this game showed how vulnerable a low block sort of defense makes you to slapping and we see less crowding the crease in the future
What’s funny is that Zo was drafted high specifically for goaltending, but so far it has not been his game. And the other guys don’t seem to be suited to the goalie role, so I think they’ll stick with Zo and see what it gets them.
Best slapball game so far, for this being the first iteration of this sport you all have done an amazing job. With a few tweaks this could rival BIP as my second favorite
BIP will always be my top pick, but slapball is becoming a close second. I’m sure season 2 will have improvements and rule changes for a better experience.
This felt like the kind of game Jomboy were imagining when they invented it. A mix of styles, some strategy changes for offense and defense, action up and down, some pretty wild plays (Dan with the save!) and a close game at the end - and I think it's working. That warehouse magic pixie dust that falls from the ceiling (or is it asbestos?) blessed you guys again.
@@SwitchBladeJoness No, I saw Jimmy say this in the live chat, "(The ball)can’t be picked up and played after two bounces but balls can roll in and go in" and that applies to slaps as well. If the ball bounces ten times but goes in with no one possessing it, it will be a goal.
In the last 00:20 of the clock on a freeze Luke was told he can’t crow hop. Immediately after that Old Man Dan crow hops and scores and no one said anything 😂
@@Phalokratis I agree game was over. Point did not alter the outcome. Just trying to verify rules on a newly invented game. It has been a great 3 games to watch
Tip for the keepers in the next iteration of this game. Rule 1 of keeping; never give up the near post. Force shots to the far post because you’ll have more time to react and the shooter will be less accurate if they have to shoot farther. Also angles allow for easier shot stopping on far post shots. I would rather get beat far post 4 times a game than get beat near post even once.
Loving the slap ball and all the warehouse games content guys. A slight suggestion from me would be having to bounce or pass the ball every 5 steps or so, and maybe a shot clock of some sort
I watched the podcast where Jimmy said they went over many iterations of the rules and did thorough testing. The only rule change I want to see now after these few games that is a throw is rebounded in the air (no ground touches at all) it can be a fast break. I really dont think a turnover is enough of a punishment for a throw. Especially when a team of good throwers can keep up a good shot percentage.
I have a few concerns with rule clarification; still great job adapting to the new game and trying to find the rhythm and tolerance of the rules. (I hope this is constructive criticism) 1. When Zo dropped for a self slap, he only had one foot planted (the other was up behind him), I thought both feet had to be on the ground when slapping. 2. Jolly’s last shot in the first half was bounced, slapped, hit BBD, bounced twice, then went in the goal. I thought if it bounces twice, no matter, what, it’s a turn over. This was seen again right after halftime when it was deflected and shot across by the Breakdowns and Dan saved it, it bounced 2-4 times before Dan got to it. 3. Also on the big turnover in about the middle of the first half, I only saw the ball hit the ground once in a row. It hit other players (from both teams) between each bounce. I feel this is inconsistent with #2.
There's a lot to love about this game. It gets a little too bogged down with the constant replays, not sure what the solution is there. I found myself enjoying the play the most when there were limited stoppages between possessions. I also found myself feeling like I got too excited too fast due to the mandatory "reset" where the now offensive team must take it to the corner. I think fast breaks are exciting, and can be used as a strategy. Most "throwing" teams would benefit from pushing the pace. Instead the potential excitement is squashed from a viewer point of view. Consider eliminating the mandatory reset, but making it mandatory that the defensive team vacates the offensive zone before they can retake possession or play defense. This allows the offensive team to choose their desired pacing strategy. I can't wait to see the next evolution. Hope you guys decide to post the playtests so you can get feedback. That'd be tons of fun!
absolutely electric game! a bit more fun than the first two which i would attribute to teams getting the offense flowing and the defenses having to adapt and figure out something past crowding the crease. absolutely loving it guys, keep up the good work
I think the follow through on a throw should be allowed to go over the line. Like basketball, if the shot is released when both feet are behind the line before the line is crossed/stepped over its still a 3.
This one is fun as hell, really digging slapball. Coming from basketball I’ not sure I’ll ever be able to get behind the throwing violations being based on where you land vs. where you start, but I’m sure it’s for a reason
Been great so far! I like many others do feel that there needs to be some limitation placed on movement on offense. Running around with the ball feels and looks weird. The defense has no real way to get possession back. A game could start 1-0 and if you have an offense that can hold the ball there's no reason to try and score anymore. I don't think a true shot clock wouldn't work well in the warehouse but maybe like a 5 second rule where you have to pass the ball or dribble it once every 5 seconds? The running also makes offense feel cluttered around the goal. Maybe the goalie should have to stay on the defensive side? No defenders in the crease either? A 2nd crease that no one but the goalie can go in? Idk, it's a lot of fun either way and I'm sure it'll be tweaked well enough by the next Captain's League!
what an incredible game jimmy and jolly really showing some true captainship shouting out calls to the team and changing strategies mid game end even tho i wish he was more involved with the offense Dan had the best save we might ever see in the sport
Love this! A very interesting rule could be implemented there too. Last “freeze” shot of the game could be worth 2 points. Would definitely change some end game routines like a freeze hack a shaq
Excited to see the game develop and see how offense progresses. The style of offense now seems so basketball coded in a way I’m curious to see how screens can come into play to open open a “slapper” or lane or overall just organized plays from teams to get a “slap” or throw on goal
Liked the box and 1 we saw from the ‘fellas in the second half worked pretty well, also thought they were dicing up the 4 goalies with the front 3 triangle tactics so I think a move to 4 forward on attack could work with how zo, jolly, and Rob were so productive up close
I feel like the midrange area is completely unused. Maybe add another line were you can throw but both feet must remain still the entire process of the throw.
After game three, here is more of my Game Designer Tries To Fix Slapball * Get rid of freezes. And with the real life time that saves, you can put one time out per team into play. More importantly... The end of this game shows how without a clock and without other pressure the game just kinda falls flat. Two suggestions for this: * Any team that is trailing that scores in the last 90 seconds _gets the ball back in their own end_. That's right, make it, take it again. It's the comeback mechanic. Or * When time runs out, the trailing team can take throws 1v1 against the goalie, from their defensive end or the wedges. On a save, the game ends. On a score, the game continues. Keep going like that until the trailing team *takes the lead* doing this. (If they tie doing this, it's not enough.) Once they take the lead, the newly-trailing team now has to make two in a row. In the incredibly unlikely scenario it keeps going back and forth like this until someone makes a save. One or both of these rules fixes the problems around the end of the game.
Great game with a lot of potential. For me the most annoying part is the amount of replays there are to see if the player was on the line. It’s literally after every goal. To avoid that maybe on the should be ok and over the line should be illegal. You can make the lines a bit further if you think it would be too close.
On the good fellas fifth goal, the ball bounced twice prior to fully crossing the goal line. Genuine question, is this a goal because it was off a shot/deflection the bounces don’t matter? Or just a missed call? I think it’s beneficial for this to be a goal because a shot on net shouldn’t be limited to two bounces if it’s on target
I think I need clarity on the 2 bounce rule. That ball off BBD's leg looked like it bounced twice before crossing the goal line. Or do shots on goal get unlimited bounce/roll? (Like on Old Man Dan's save?) So the 2 bounce dead ball only applies to passing plays?
Regarding the stellar save by old man Dan: that ball bounced more than twice, wouldn't it have been dead before the goal with or without the save? just curious.
On the breakdowns 7th goal the ball bounces twice off the shot attempt of the goodfellas before the breakdowns pick it for the throw. Should have been dead ball correct? The ball bounces up into the goalie then bounces again before the it’s picked up and thrown for the goal.
I feel like Jimmy has to be the favorite for the whole captain’s league. He’s the best coach of all the captains by far, making him a favorite for basically every event
I would love to see some set plays since you have so much power when you have ball possession. I can imagine the whole team running into the offensive zone at the same time, like running football routes with the ball holder as QB
think this sport will evolve as you play it more and just going through some growing pains, if done again think you could drop it to 3v3 instead of the 4, kinda clogs up the play. ever looked into getting those mats you see in every gym for the walls in the wearhouse not as much in this but definitely some rough contact with the walls in the games
If not 3v3, make it 4v4 with true goalies. Make the current crease larger by 2-3 feet and add a second, smaller crease that the goalie can’t leave and the other defenders can’t enter
Id love to see you not lose position on a shot. Being able to shoot, have the goalie block it and go for a rebound goal would be a great way to combine slapping with shooting. (You would still lose possession if it goes off a goalie/ defender than bounces twice, so shooting from the point still has the risk of just losing the ball) this would allow teams like jolly to shoot the ball while still using slaps, and I think it would also move the game faster for a bit more action. Loving the game so far though!
I like the rules just as they are. I initially thought that different zones should garner different point values. I changed my mind because that would lead to teams targeting certain zones for points. That could also lead to a slower more deliberate product which is bad for the viewers
Lot better and smoother game than the first 2 for sure. Thought Jimmy might have stepped on the line on his first half freeze shot, but they didn’t really look at it. Overall, a really really fun game tho!
How are most comments still complaining about defenders in the crease when this game demonstrated exactly why that doesn't matter and isn't an effective strategy? Really fun 3rd game and I can't wait to see more as teams play together more and figure out set-pieces, strategy, etc. My jaw actually dropped with Dan's save.
It felt like this game had much less of it tbh. There was way more man to man coverage than the first 2 games. The only reason I really don't like 4 defenders in the crease is because it's not as fun to watch and makes the game feel more stagnant.
@@TheHappyWhale I think it had less of it because the Breakdowns were getting absolutely light up when they tried it, lol. Seems more to me like the Goodfellas figured out some kinks in their slapping game and were working together better, which was very fun to see unfold vs. their first showing. I can't imagine most teams would opt for 4 in the crease vs. a man-to-man approach as offensive efficacy continues to pick up.
@@jomboy_ None of these possessions seem particularly long to me, and the ones that are a bit more extensive actually help ratchet up the tension. I think rule suggestions are inevitable with a newer game, but would love to see more chatter about the strategy happening and items like that. Imo this game makes for a very fun watch so far, and the entire Captain's League dynamic is just great.
@@jomboy_shot clock and the crease defence solo aren’t a problem but there are some possessions you really notice them together. When a team gets in close to slap but it’s jammed so it’s a lot of spinning around, little passes and no looks because 7-8 players are just in the top of the crease and before you know it a team has the ball for 45 seconds looking for a good shot. I think a 30 second shot clock would be nice just to have for those situations to hurry teams up and try to find a shot quicker rather than the fake bounces and pump fakes and clogged lanes
Great game. Gonna be interesting to see Breakdowns offense evolve as teams surely follow the same method Jolly employed in the second half of strictly man marking Luke, which seems like a necessity at this point. Jimmy has to find a way to punish teams for it. Now for that painful Thursday-Sunday gap.
Wondering if the Goodfellas goal right before the half should’ve counted. Still learning on the fly but were there two bounces before it trickled in off of bbd?
How far out can the goalie go on a freeze? Zo/all keepers should come out as much as possible to cut the angle. Maybe bias to the near post to cover with body and just block far post side.

This may seem like a dumb question but are you allowed to kick the ball to save a double bounce on offense? Or can you not use your feet at all?
On Breakdowns 7th goal did the ball not bounce twice? Once before hitting D'versa and once after?
Does anyone know what ball/size they are using or where I can find it. I work with high school students and think they would really love this game?
Teams are figuring out how to pass around the defense when they pack in the crease which is really great for the overall game
That and shot clock, which also never becomes a problem. Hoping people move on from those being the main comment topics
The third goal by goodfellas jolly foot was definitely touching the crease. At least it looked like it from every angle you showed
Hell of a game!
That Lil Dickey Reference at xD 28:18
What a game!
Jack is the lifeblood of this channel.
This might be my favorite warehouse game if more games get as intense as this one.
Also, we need an edit of people deaking/juking with music playing
3rd goal jolly’s left foot was on the line.
So never stopped for the 4th goal(does that matter on a slap????)
At the half you didn’t let Zo talk Jack, pero come on guys! Lmao
LD: The Independent Variable. Nice Lil Dicky reference Jake!
