This video gives all the details and rituals of Jamai Shashti Celebration in a very interesting way.
Jamai Shashti is a day, devoted to the son-in-law. The day is regarded as auspicious and most of the families organize a party, dedicated to the son-in-law. A grand feast is organized to mark the occasion. The celebration of this festival is an integral part of the rich culture and tradition of Bengal.
The Day of Jamai Shoshti is also known as Aranya Shoshti. Aranya Shashti is observed on the sixth day of the waxing phase of moon in the month of Jyeshtha (May - June) as per traditional Hindu calendar. It is dedicated to the God of forest and also to Goddess Sashti and Kartikeya. There is a popular belief that those who observe Aranya Sashti will be blessed with children.
Mother in law observes a partial fast on the day and performs puja in a forest or at Shashti Tala. Goddess Shasti is worshipped on the day and offerings are made.
In Bengal, the day is also observed as Jamai Sasthi. Jamai Shoshti celebration is being shown in this video.
The famous Shiva - Pravati Vivah is held on the day in Orissa and is known as Sitala Sashti. In Tamil Nadu this day is celebrated as Skanda Shashti.
