It cannot be an easy thing for the authorities; Police, National Guard, etc to have to go to the houses that they KNOW did NOT evacuate. When they get there, both the house & Vehicles are washed away; (and/or underwater). Or the house is completely missing altogether! The searchers then know that more than likely, that stubborn individual is somewhere in the Ocean, or caught up in debris somewhere on the island.😔 The most terrifying way to go for those who stayed HAS to be by getting trapped in the Attic, trying to escape the Storm surge!😳 Thats sadly where many of the Victims are found! Lastly I heard that the Hurricane shelters will not accept the Homeless in Florida ( not even elderly homeless, or those in Wheelchairs). Wow! Whats wrong with the people running the Shelters? Some homeless said their only choice was to enter abandoned properties, and try to weather the storm there. Hope they made it!
Thats absolutely horrific & pathetic that homeless people are not allowed to be accepted into shelters during life threatening a hurricane . They are human beings . The homeless shelters should be fined per person they dont let in . Its life or death for EVERYONE when hurricanes happen . How vile to be like that . Everyone is stressed to the max during these epic weather events - why deliberately cause people more stress!!
I find that extremely hard to believe, because storm shelters are open to the general public. Some counties require the disabled to apply in advance for special needs shelters. Every county provides free transportation to a shelter. You need to call your county before the storm and be put on a registry list. My county sent me texts with a number to call for a ride to the shelter, up to a few hours before the storm, because I registered for emergency notifications. You may be required to provide your own food, water, bedding and sanitary supplies. Also, not every shelter accepts pets.
The person doing the videoing says, at the start of the video, that he drove around Anna Maria Island *before* the hurricane hit. Part of what he was doing was collecting footage of homes that were standing prior to the hurricane, it can be used as evidence for insurance claims. (That's a decent thing for him to be doing, on behalf of homeowners on the island). Thinking some of the posters below might want to go back and re-listen to his video. What is left afterward can be confirmed once law enforcement have gone and found people who perished in the storm surge and collected evidence and once cleanup crews have gone through. I'm going to wait and see what video evidence shows post-hurricane before assuming anything else. Personally, I'd never live this close to a huge body of water like that, but that's me. Thank you for the footage. It was interesting to watch.
That will never happen but if they required all homeowners to have insurance even those who self insure it would bring cost down. Also like in the Keys if they are 50 percent destroyed they do not let you rebuild

Not click bait, everyone flooded 4 ft. My aunt and cousin live on the island and I spent many yrs there and know it's far different than when I grew up visiting from the FL Keys the same is happening down here after Irma
If geoengineering didn't occur I think these events would be a little more rare. And who wants govt to own more property just so they can sell it to the highest bidder
See any cars, and they pretty much only have palm trees vegetation. Water level from the surge is now gone, and that's when find the bodies of those who refused to evacuate from barrier islands before the hurricane. The concrete blocks buildings are stronger, but if only ground floor homes, can completely flood, and on stilts depends on how old they are, because of the typical poor construction materials construction, no matter how fancy looking on the outside and inside. Don't even know what mobile homes are doing on barrier islands in Florida. This shows how many people chose to stay.
You do great work! The news didn’t act like it was going to hit here. My mom didn’t believe me until she was kicked out of her condo- then she got a hotel room near the water as well. She’s ok but it could have been a lot worse. She was told she could come back tues. She was able to stay by the mall because she was kicked out of the hotel near Van Wezell.
I survived Katrina, in Mississippi. 32 ft surge. Why islanders would not evacuate is beyond crazy. The folks who stayed in K all dies, except 2 I knew who "swam" for 8 hours. My condolences and heartfelt empathy for all that just wanna go home again.

Two main reasons people did not leave for Ian was, 1. They kept moving the projected landfall area. They went up west coast then changed it to the center then changed it to the east coast then changed it back to the west and they kept doing it. 2. All the Gas was gone days before the storm. And the reason they didn’t allow people on the island was because dead people were laying around, people would be stealing, it was dangerous, outsiders would be in the way and bothering workers. I still haven’t gone to see Fort Myers beach since Ian.
Well, the National Weather Service can only estimate the path and intensity of a hurricane. That's why people need to prepare for and heed the early warnings, especially evacuations.

Inland Florida is beautiful but people flock to the shadeless coasts here. A beach is nice to visit once but the shade tree intense interior provides better Florida living
I heard about the legend of the native woman but I heard a few years back that they sold the land so now the protection is now null and void. Just saying
Well you hit it on the head today, ignorance and stupidity still prevails. People never learn and that is what is wrong with the world today. I don't doubt that some people have no where else to go, however, the choice of staying may be their end.
Damn I cannot believe people actually think dead bodies are going to protect them. And this is the reason why you should have more faith in God damn believing in some rituals. I'm actually overwhelmed with the fact that why do they continue to build your knowing that a hurricane when in season will come and wipe them all away.
You can't say that insurance companies are bad then talk about how insurance companies pay out big checks without asking questions. If your only criteria when buying insurance is you want the cheapest insurance, not the one with the most comprehensive coverage to protect you, you'll get the cheapest results.
It's funny you talked about the people there believing that they won't get hit with a hurricane. I love in tarpon springs Florida and the people there believe they won't get a direct impact because the land was blessed by a native American
Ok so the First Nations woman protected the island. So why would she do it now? After her people were slaughtered and forced to leave. Why would she protect the descendants of the people who wronged her people?
Where are the Indian burial grounds up there, to me looks like all the land got flattened and ruined... The Indians and Spaniards Tampa area didn't look like this before. But I'm from southwest Florida I love Florida and will always stay...
I've been reading you can't get car insurance in Florida. If it hasn't happened yet- insurance companies aren't going to offer insurance in Florida anymore.
In the last 3 years, 3 storms have occurred with a south to north track. "Donna" did that in 1961 and did damage statewide. I have noticed that Cocoa Beach/Melbourne don't seem to take direct hits from hurricanes. School starts, there's usually a hurricane or two. Florida strong.
Lol, it's not that we believe in an old legend of Native protection, it's that the storm is always coming right for us and never hits. When you grow up always evacuating, moving family and pets at great expense and nothing ever happens, we tend to stay, it's the crying wolf effect. I can't speak for Bradenton but that's how the locals of Sarasota feel, and other than Siesta and Lido, Sarasota proper ( the city) has once again been spared. But yeah the old legend of protection is well known and kinda funny but we don't REALLY believe it.
Also, I understand that you're relatively new here and like most transplants, the hurricane threats may scare you. And you do decent work documenting our towns but don't get on here and talk down to us locals , who have spent our lives living through hurricane after hurricane after tropical storm, we know our land, we know what to expect and how to face it as a community....and whataya know, while the Yankee transplants freaked out and did their usual chicken little, sky is falling routine, the natives were right AGAIN. Next time board if your windows if it makes you feel better, then find a local to invite you to a hurricane party to get drunk and eat with the rest of us , and enjoy an unexpected day off.
@johnliberty3647 👍 Thanks. That eases my mind. My brother was hit hard by flooding. 💔 I only had tree damage, but he's on barrier island and I'm inland. (Fl.) He's had two horrible things happen this month already so I was obviously hurting for him. And getting mad thinking it was intentional. Appreciate your reply😉
The main reason why I believe this is natural is because it would be a huge learning curve in directing complex weather systems. Lahaina seemed like DEW manifested. Same with many NorCal fires 🔥. This just seemed like a warm water stretch was in the storms path and it intensified quickly. Maybe legit evidence will come out making me look like a fool but I really believe this one was nature.
Barrier islands are open to residents and business owners only ... Police have barricades and are checking credentials ... If you lack credentials, you're not allowed entry to the beach communities !!! Sincerely A Holiday Florida Resident
I watched the aerial view of the Island by a news station yesterday-yes, Anna Maria Island was hit but not completely destroyed. Stop with your click bait headlines desperate for clicks. Will never watch your videos again.
Sounds like cars left behind in evacuation zone should be excluded from coverage maybe. Especially for primary residences. And only 1 exemption for secondary.
I grew up in south Florida. Believe it or not there were virtually no serious hurricanes that hit the peninsula in the 1970s and 1980s. Any that hit Florida were mostly in the far west panhandle which back then was considered a backwater and didn’t impact insurance rates much. What we’ve been experiencing in Florida lately started with hurricane Andrew in 1992. Before the 1970s the last active hurricane era lasted from the 1920s to 1960 with hurricane Donna. After Donna it was mostly quiet(except for the western panhandle) until hurricane Andrew in 1992. Unlike most people I don’t attribute the current active era to climate change. The period from the 1920s through 1960 was actually worse. So, if the same pattern holds we’ve got about 10 more years of Florida suffering from significant hurricanes before we get to another quiet period. That doesn’t mean quiet for other states though. In the 1970s and 80s states like North Carolina got hit a lot.

Why this man so thirsty for views. Just stop. 😂
Actually this video i expected 500 views not 50,000.. so whatever.
Does anyone find this suspicious?? Like Lahaina?
So, are there direct energy machines that can simulate a hurricane and storm surge?
You're in a CULT!
No, this seem natural to me. Mother Nature still exists even in a world where evil people have weather modification capabilities.
@johnliberty3647
👍 Thanks. That eases my mind. My brother was hit hard by flooding. 💔 I only had tree damage, but he's on barrier island and I'm inland. (Fl.)
He's had two horrible things happen this month already so I was obviously hurting for him.

Stupidity is a major reason why of the survival of the fittest is still enforce today.
Click bait...I clicked to see the after not the before..🤨🤨🤨
Very beautiful documentary showing this island before it was destroyed. Glad I got to see what life looked like there. Thank you!
Family been going to Anna Maria Island since 1950 ... not much here on Anna Maria!
I watched the aerial view of the Island by a news station yesterday-yes, Anna Maria Island was hit but not completely destroyed. Stop with your click bait headlines desperate for clicks. Will never watch your videos again.
A certain home insurance company dropped me and I never put a claim in, for a rich guy on the coast. That was 20 years ago. Well they got hit hard .
SPOILER!!! NO 'AFTER' photos....clickbait.......
The first rhing you gotta ask is damn i must get a better job istead of envying other peoples lifestyles sad bro😢
I am Anna maria island carpenter and we will rebuild.
Loved your 'stringent' brain fart. I suddenly felt less "old." 😚
Sounds like cars left behind in evacuation zone should be excluded from coverage maybe. Especially for primary residences. And only 1 exemption for secondary.
Let me tell y’all what it’s like being male middle-class and on a house built safe and sound; on Indian Burial ground.
was interested in vid, but got distracted by the constant rolling through stop signs.
Propaganda machine bullshit.
Lame! Doesn't show anything.....

I only believe in God’s no body else
Appreciate you!
I have a trip planned to the island in a month😨
There’s nothing left. Maybe in a year. Try Flagler beach on the other coast or destin. 😢

Too busy recording destruction. No time for live streaming. If i can i will tho
Fn wow.......
Do you know the definition of destroyed? Hmmm
Dude…really? 👎🏻
Click bait😏
