I bought my Nikon D3500 a couple of days ago and this is my first full size digital camera. I had a look at the owners manual which didn't show much, looked all over You Tube and picked up a little here and there. Then I found this video and it explained everything in detail, this is the most informative video around, thank you for taking the time to show me how to operate the Nikon D3500.

As a real estate agent, I rely on professional photographers to capture the beauty of a property I am selling. Knowing that I also have an intense desire to learn photography, my wife got me the D3500 for Christmas. Best present ever!! Plus she figured eventually I can stop paying others for doing something I enjoy doing anyway. Smart woman... While the camera's functions seem to be overwhelming, Michael laid out a very detailed, easy-to-follow beginner's tutorial that put me at ease. Had to rewind a few spots to grasp the concept or item being covered, but overall learned a lot from the tutorial. I am now looking forward to infusing myself with more knowledge to fully take advantage of the camera and start capturing life in moments in time.

I'm about as beginner as they come, but I wanted a nice, entry-level dslr to take nice photos of my newborn daughter. I was SO intimidated when this camera came in and I saw all these buttons and settings that I was absolutely clueless about. This video SERIOUSLY got rid of all of that anxiety and now I am so comfortable with this camera! It's so informative and easy to follow along.

Thank you! You helped a dude that learned to shoot pictures on analog bodies to understand his awesome new digital toy. I was totally overwhelmed with all the options on this thing, and now I understand it a whole lot better. Still have to learn that I do not have to choose the film for what I want to do and stick to (and hope the results devolop out nice), but change it on the spot. I'll take this instruction to heart and probably shoot some awesome pics tomorrow.

I have been shooting with a D3400 for 18 months and this tutorial is very useful for an improver and I have only reached 41:10. Very good on white balance and for an understanding of colour temperature. It's not too technical but Michael does know you need to understand the theory to get good pictures.

Fantastic guide and extra detail I really appreciated! Thanks so much for this depth of info -- it literally applies
to almost all Nikon DSLRs generically, with the primary exception being that different series of cameras have buttons
in different locations (left vs. right, etc.), though they basically function the same.
I used the info I learned here to master my D60, then bought a D3400 and now feel comfortable and competent
using Aperture and Manual modes, thanks to your very detailed explanations of how to use and adjust the functions
    in each mode.
This was the absolute best video I've found on mastering the basics of controlling your camera! Awesome job Michael.

Dede if you're serious ...pick another camera. This one has a couple glaring weaknesses.
Try doing remote astrophotography and you hit a brick wall. If you're not taking long exposures of the night sky its a great little camera and the video it does is good. I bought one for astrophotography tho. Oops.

Thank you, Michael. Will be starting a digital photography course for Summer session at college and needed to know how to set up and use my new Nikon D3500 so that I'll be ready to process RAW pictures for use in my animation backgrounds. Really enjoyed this video and will watch it over and over throughout this summer, until I'm familiar with the camera, set up, directing good shots and playing around with the different types of lighting, angles and at least, general composition. Too bad I came a couple years too late to get in on the Sony giveaway, but that's only worth $2k and the knowledge imparted is actually priceless, so it's still a huge win! ☺☺

Thank you, I finally know how to use my camera & why the auto-focus was always messing up- user error!

Last SLR was Canon A-1. (In-between digitals were point & shoot and Androids.)
    This is my first DSLR!
Excellent tutorial for translating SLR to digital.
Was always a shutter-priority type of person but am open to exploring aperture priority.
Don't want to start shooting until I know how to control camera. This is very helpful info
Adequate details but not dumbed down. Thanks!

40:09 start here [he will go over everything he just said in better detail and gloss over minor stuff but you can still watch it from the start again but this time stamp is a good starting point for the video]
No offense but you was jumping all over the place and I was confused. But as soon as you appeared in front of the camera and showing how things are hands on... i understood it better. At 1 33 00 I understood how I wanted my photos to appear in low light [since I like doing urban night photography]. Still not done with the video. But thank you for the time and effort you put into the video. Thank you
