We go to the mosque 5 times a day for congressional prayers...but yes Friday afternoon is the major and obligatory congressional prayer where a sermon is delivered by the Imam of the Mosque...it is the rest day of Muslims and a chance to reflect on past week and an opportunity to spiritually (and physically/showers are mandated on friday) cleanse from week to week.
Just to add on that, all 5 prayers are major and obligatory, on friday prayer there is a sermon, that is why the masjids are usually more populated that day.

I have arrived at the exact same surah and I too got very emotional when reading the part of Noah (a.s.) and how his son was not amongst those who embarked on the ark. I felt how that must have hurt the prophet. And especially where he tries to plead with God saying his son is his family and Allah explains how his son can not be considered family. I just realised that nearly every prophet had a close family member who did not accept islam. Like Ibrahiem and his parents, Lot and his wife, Muhammad and his uncle, may peace be upon all the prophets. And they all loved them dearly but at the end of the day it is Allah who guides whom He wilst.
May we all be amongst those who He guides, Amien.

The reason why we get emotional when reading and hearing Quran is because these are the direct words from God to all human kind. It’s almost like having valuable conversation the most caring, loving parent speaking to its child who giving advises out of love. Making sure your kid will avoid harm as much as possible. Except that God’s love and care is of no comparison to ours. ❤️
as a father, this part of the surah really touch my emotion too. this is where Noah was trying to get his son to join him on the ship but his son is still ego and refuse to accept Noah's message on Islam. any father wouldn't want to see his son or daughter to die, especially in the state like this...😢

We are actually obligated to pray in congregation 5x/daily, if we can ... but Friday is our special Congregational prayer which starts with a sermon.

11:06 so there are two types of prayers that we pray - the obligatory prayers, and voluntary prayers. There are five obligatory prayers (early morning, noon, late afternoon, sunset, and night) and then there are voluntary prayers which do not have a specific number, though there are those voluntary prayers that the prophet (pbuh) upheld regularly, and those form a basis for our voluntary prayers as well.
The obligatory prayers for men are to be offered in congregation in a mosque. That means we go five times a day to the mosque, every day. Due to certain issues like contagious illnesses, or travel, or when one can't make it to the mosque due to any legitimate reason, one can pray the obligatory prayers in their home, or on the road.
The voluntary prayers are best offered at home, in private.

We can go to mosque to pray 5 times a day. But if you cant make it at mosque, you can pray anywhere or at home. For friday prayer, Dhuhr (noon prayer) it is obligatory for a man to pray congregational and listen sermons at mosque. ❤
And we have 5 prayer every day

Muslims visit mosque 5times a day everyday to pray.But Friday is a special day so all of us dress beautifully (etc) and go to mosque.
