I plan on switching back to pfsense from my UDM Pro because I got At&ts 5 gig speed and it is way way better! am just going to run my controller for my unifi access points and switches on my PC. Am building a pc for it with a 10 gig rj45 card and a 10gig sfp+ card.

So what hardware are you guys running pfsense on in production? The specs from your video indicate xenon based systems, or are they just VMs for the demo? Thanks!
Correct, we run pfSense as a virtual machine in VMware ESXi - we have 2 vCPUs assigned and the host runs 2x E5-2680v4 CPUs (2.4Ghz). Thanks for the comment!
@2guystek - I have a question on setting pfsense lan interface configuration. My pfsense wan port is connected to lan port on isp router ( isp providing internet by telephone cable). Based on this configuration pfsense wan interface received ip address (192.168.1.x) from isp router by dhcp server. Based on wan interface ip in pfsense, I changed pfsense lan ip address to different network (192.168.10.x). Then clients connected to lan interface are unable to reach internet. Any suggestions enabling internet on lan? My pfsense configuration: VMware Esxi 7 hypervisor. Virtualized pfsense. 4 port gigabit network card.
Go to Interfaces > WAN> and scroll all the way to the bottom. Do you have 'Block private networks and loopback addresses" checked? If so, uncheck that, save and see if you're able to get Internet access to LAN zone behind pfSense.
Rufus is where it's at! You can download the install ISO for pfSense and use that to build the install stick over the .img if you're using Rufus. best of luck!
@mrlimegreenrocks I have internet now. I ultimatley used opnsense lol. But I think the issue was I needed to reboot my modem after installing the firewall/router
I was able to install the software itself. My questions is, once I install the software, and I reach the screen with the multiple numerical options like 0 for logout, 1 assign interfaces, etc. Should I restart my machine and boot from my laptop that has the software installed or use another machine to access the pfsense login window? I tried using my Macbook to reach the site, but it takes too long to respond. @2GuysTek Thank you for the video for installation. It's been a great help!
my installation stucks at something like: KDB: enter: panic Stopped at kdb_enter+0x3b : movq db> ...... it doesn't get to the "Copyright and distribution notice" page
Very strange; i downloaded balenaEtcher. It seemed like it destroyed 4 usb sticks, at least my Win 10 would no longer recognize them after it said it failed with the install of the PFsense image. Now the strange part. Both times i downloaded the Etcher software there was an Imageusb download following in the q. So i tried the Imageusb software from Osforensics and it successfully installed the PFsense software on the usb stick that Win 10 had refused to recognize.
If you plan on using UniFi and not pfSense, you need to have a Ubiquiti product like a Dream Machine Pro (UDM-P) or some other type of firewall between your UniFi gear and the Internet. If you’re asking which firewall product is better, it’s all gonna depend on what you intend to do with it. If you want an easy single pane of glass, you can’t get a much better experience than a complete UniFi set up end to end, but there are things that Ubiquiti products don’t do as well or don’t do at all in terms of firewall features that pfSense will easily and happily do all day long. The downside of a mixed environment, unfortunately, is you won’t get that beautiful single pan of glass experience like you do with UniFi.
Check to make sure your pfSense system has obtained an IP address via DHCP (you can do this via the console screen) Check to make sure you can connect to the webUI on the LAN-side (make sure your interfaces are connected to the right things)
@@joetecktipsgamer9348 I might have your answer, based on your comment. Make sure you set your gateway setting on your dhcp server to that of the pfSense system.
@@2GuysTek I am a power user. I use a RV325 dual WAN router. I took one of my ISPs off of that router and connected it to the pfsense device. Its a U59 Mini PC 11th Gen 4-Cores, should be plenty for pfsense. I cant get it to do anything. Both network devices are seen by pfsense. So strange. The main perpose was to use it for openVPN, but I can't even get it to browse the internet. So as of right now pfsense is garbage. Your video is fantastic. I reinstalled it 3 times and still does nothing, and I follow you video verbatim.
If you follow the video from start-to-finish, at the end you'll have just what you're looking for. If you're looking for L3 routing, you'll need to add more interfaces and setup rules between them to allow traffic to pass between subnets.
Hi I want the internet to be working on my base system as well & also should be able to connect to my work network as a lot of websites are blocked inside the work network. Split Tunneling is enabled on the OpenVPN server but it seems my system is missing some configuration which is causing it to not work Can you please tell me what settings I need to do on my laptop VPN to make this work. Kindly help. Late reply but use a second VM like Win10 and use the broswer bar to type in your LAN IP.

They aren't destroyed they are unallocated if you go into disk part you can reallocate a new partition
My lan is same as yours but there is no wan.

I tried this with 10 different USBs and 4 different servers' computers and got the same black screen after forcing it to boot
sorry for the late reply. Did you check your BIOS and make sure it's set for UEFI or Legacy boot (depending on your install approach?) HTH!
