If I'm not mistaken, the DVD version of this movie has a short film included that showed things from Andy's perspective in vlog format. As far as bonus content goes, it's a great addition.
It sure did. Also had news footage in there as well
Here ya go ua-cam.com/video/SLZ0J6-Y3oA/v-deo.html
It's top notch.
YES! I remember watching it as a kid
Should have read your comment before I posted mine lol
the part where andy turns into a zombie then just wipes his blood on the whiteboard and holds it up always creeps me tf out so much
That was awful!!!! I was really rooting for Andy😭😭
that was literally zombie text lol
If you haven't seen it, you must watch the Andy's Diary bonus feature.
Guess it's him letting everyone know he's screwed.
Me too😨
Did you watch the dvd? With Andys tape before he turns into a zombie?😨 scary 😊
That whole opening sequence is so amazing. And the movie is so brutal. One of the better remakes.
Bonus features on this are fantastic. They have news developments showing the progression of infection. It also has a bunch of video blogs from Andy giving his character the back story and depth he deserved.
Found the news report one ua-cam.com/video/SLZ0J6-Y3oA/v-deo.html
@@mirata9 That one is really great. It'll be cool to see it as a standalone movie.
"Maybe they also recognize that he's a good boy..."
That put a smile on my face.
You need to go back and watch the originals, Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, and Day of the Dead, one of my personal favorites!
As someone who loves this movie I am grateful that most of the people who love the original, give this a nod of approval.
@@KillbotSw Who cares what he thought? The public are the one's that matter and the public LOVED this. Just look at the fuckin' video you're supposed to be watching here and you can see it for yourself! Movie and music snobs are the worst....
@@KillbotSw George A. Romero also made the other shitty 'of the dead' movies so... No disrespect to the Z man, but come on.
@@KillbotSw lol that’s why I made sure to say most 😆
I don't like this remake at all.
DVD Extra with the perspective of Andy is pretty solid.
Dawn of the dead is a great example of a remake done right.
Keeping the premise so the nostalgia and the basic story draws audiences and don't confuse them, but change and adapt to different times the way you're telling the story so it's its own beast and doesn't look like a pale carbon copy.
Other great horror remakes are The Thing (1982), The Fly (1986), The Blob (1988), Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978), The crazies (2010) and Evil dead (2013)
@SupportNewGames
Totally agree.
Haven't seen the remake of last house on the left, but the 2006 the hills have eyes is pretty intense as well as being, so i believe, Alexandre Aja best movie to date.
The night of the living dead 1990 remake is also great
Evil dead not so much
@@neonghost8608
Have to see that one.
I did hear good things about it.
@@davidmeir9348 it’s really good classic zombie style with fantastic acting from tony todd and great gore effects
With the exception of Train To Busan, and maybe the 1990 NOTLD remake, this is my favorite zombie movie of all time.
Shawn of the Dead?
28 days/weeks later?
Dead Snow 1&2?
@@ramahida1529 haven't seen those, will check it out.
ZOMBIELAND ? 🤣 jk
One of the better remakes, but I still prefer the original. I would highly recommend if you haven't seen it yet!
Yep, the original Dawn of the Dead is hands down the best zombie movie ever made. It pretty much defined the genre, even more than Night of the Living Dead.
Argento cut with soundtrack from Goblin is best. 10/10
@@paulp9274 alongside day of the dead, for me. I love that fucking movie
Romero laid the groundwork for all zombie movies. Watching the remake over the original was dumb as he misses the connections to the original. Wish he would cut down the laughing gas, not everything is something to be chuckled at.
@@Scary__fun Damn man, did you forget to pick up tampons today or what? Chill. The original is a classic and the remake is great on it;s own. Who are you to say what is and isn't to be chuckled at?
This is a prime example of a great horror remake. Honestly I think the early-mid 2000's had a lot of great horror movies that didn't get all that much credit at first. But now looking back, these are some gems.
I liked that remake of House on Haunted Hill with Jeffery Rush.
@@DeltronZed That move gave me nightmares for months on end. Great horror flick
@Matrixnukum Because Resident Evil 2 has 3 survivors and House of The Dead 2 is action-packed?
I remember the DVD extras of this movie I think it was that had a "side story" from Andy's POV throughout the time up until he was bit. I always thought it was really neat to show his perspective
Yea. His entire meal was a golden fish, I believe that was his daughter's. I think his timeline was over two weeks.
Brandon: Oh thank goodness, I was so worried she was gonna die, since she's pregnant that would be terrible.
Yeah... about that
If you get a chance this month, 28 Days Later is a brilliant, one-of-a-kind must-watch. I cannot recommend it highly enough. There's nothing else like it out there.
you need to check the original man, it's far superior. This is a great movie with it's style though
I mean has he seen Night of the living dead (Original) because he should definitely watch that if he hasn't. Best zombie movie
Put from dusk till dawn on your list. Quentin tarantino has a main role in it
Yes!!!

It's just putting a cherry on top of a mound of shit.
@Ricardo Alonso Rojas 94% people loved that movie. And was top seller in home media.
Zombie remakes are usually considered doomed from the start. This is honestly the only remake that was actually good.
Why won't reactors touch the Romero originals?
Sure, this is a good zombie movie but the only things in common with Romero's Dawn is there's a cop and a shopping mall. Even George was disappointed they made the zombies fast, he would never do that.
I'd like to see Brandon react to Night of the living dead and Day of the Dead. My personal favorites.
@@kevinbaconwasntinfootloose1742 Day Of The Dead has a show now by the way
I think a big reason why is that it's hard to find. I know Shan did a reaction for it a while back though.
@@edwardthompson4600 Shan did Night of the Living Dead last year. I've seen a couple reactions to Romero's Night but none to Dawn & Day other than han the remakes. The NotLD remake is the best, it was directed by Tom Savini who played Blades and was head make-up artist on Dawn. Blades also appeared in Land of the Dead. Tom is probably best known by newer horror fans as Sex Machine and his work on Tarantino's From Dusk Till Dawn
@@edwardthompson4600 The 2h 40m Director's Cut of Romero's Dawn is free on YT. The uncut version of Day might be hard to find.
This was filmed in Thornhill near Toronto when I was a kid we would watch them film this movie. This mall no longer exists it’s torn down now. I still live near it. Sarah Polly is a Canadian icon!
Wow I didn't know that.
I grew up in Thornhill, was a kid when they were filiming it
Honestly the mall setting is perfect!! So many possibilities.
George Romero was critical of the movie, he liked the first 20 minutes of the movie, but hated the last hour an a half.
And he's right.
@Chris Oliver
No he isn't. The whole movie is great. ...and that's ironic since not all of his movies are that great himself.
@@ChrisOliver4307 no he isn’t, he did it different that’s why he dislikes it, it’s one of the better horror remakes out there
@@killar1one no
I agreed with George, snyder fucked the movie completely and was entire boring even with its "unrated cut" which just had gore the Romero and Argento versions of dawn were added scenes and missing scenes and the backstory of it was like the whole idea of society falling apart. Where as this one was just a bunch of people trying to survive in a mall.
The original Dawn of the dead defines the Zombie genre and this reimagined version is really well done.
Damn Brandon I havent checked in for awhile and the production quality has gone way up! The set looks amazing man good job
This has some crazy parts, it's a zombie movie obviously, but I feel like it's one of the more "realistic" takes on a zombie situation.
Hate me all you want but I think this is Znyders best film
I don't know, I have never liked the concept of "running" zombies, it makes them too OP. They are supposed to be walking corpses, so their legs would simply break if they tried to run. That's according to the original film's director George Romero.
@@Rocket1377 why would their legs break though? They can see, hear, eat, walk, make noises, what is running going to do?
To me, the complex bodily sequences needed to achieve functional running would probably be more than a zombie's physiology could muster. Things like nerve signals being sent back and forth (regarding the accuracy/speed with both sending and receiving), ability to maintain necessary balance, etc. Even if running was still possible directly after one's zombification, decay/damage to tissue and bone would quickly render it fairly ineffective...just my 2 cents.
@@lukerose384 technically no the undead only have the need too feed they can hear some movies and shows make that clear but dead body parts don’t matter if they run and their legs break they will just crawl so not big deal they run. Resident Evil games and movies show the dead walking slow but the other creatures made from the virus like the Liquor and other mutated creatures all can move fast.
When I saw the title, I really thought you were checking out the original one from the 70s directed by Romero
Me too. 😆
I like this movie, it’s good zombie film.
Hi. Have dvd. In the extras you find out more that happens and could of happened. Including news broadcasts at the time. Love this movie. Must have watched it at least 50 times. Can't believe I teared up tonight when they died. Just found you and subscribed.. Carry on the good work.x
THE best zombie film still after all these years..
You should really check out the original, it is an absolute classic. There's a lot less action, but Romero really understood how to use the genre as a social commentary on the world he saw around him.
Yep. The original is my favorite zombie-film of all time.
Exactly. It’s not about the action and shock, it’s the vibes and commentary that make the original so good. I definitely prefer the older and more original stuff. The ‘78 version is my fav horror of all time.
This was Zack Snyder's first film as a director and it was written by James Gunn. Both of them would do superhero movies: Snyder for DC's BATMAN/SUPERMAN/JUSTICE LEAGUE And Gunn For Guardians Of The Galaxy, respectively.
The only good thing he has directed.

Also, the character of Andy had a special feature on the DVD (but not the blu-ray) that's a video journal of his time trapped inside of the gun store. You really get to know the character, which makes it even more heartbreaking.

This is one of my favorite zombie films of all time, every October I watch it again.
This year if my girlfriend agrees, we'll watch it!
I hope you'll watch George Romero's original zombie movies. Night of the Living Dead (1968) is the first in the series, Dawn of the Dead (1978) is the sequel. The original is far superior to the remake. Running zombies make absolutely no sense whatsoever, it's all to make it more like a video game.
L'originale fa schifo
As a fellow zombie fan, this is one of the few that stick out from the older days. The classics are always fun, but they lacked a bit of the horror aspect, train to busan was probably the only zombie movie to top this since release. 28 days series was cool but typical.
So love that you’re doing spooky stories!
YES!!!!!! Another Zack Snyder Reaction!!! Absolutely iconic film aswell! Love this movie!
The original Romero film is waaaay better.
Agreed.
Totally agree,Day Of The Dead was my favourite though.
Honestly, this actually might be the best zombie movie. A Night of the Living Dead is a fucking classic. But this shit is just too good/entertaining. This and 28 Weeks Later are extremely underrated imo. I can't remember anyone under 22 knowing this movie that I know....it's crazy to me.
“No matter what movie he’s in I always trust Ving Rhames’ character”. I guess you haven’t seen Con Air haha?
Hell yeah, I saw this movie when I was way too young so I always liked it. I don’t think there’s many reactions to it on UA-cam so this is nice
21:10 - The fact that you think undead Zombies have any compassion towards a Dog makes you one of the sweetest Reactors on UA-cam ~ Thank you for being so lovely, Brandon! I needed to hear something like that today.🥰
I still like the original better but this remake was extremely well done. I’d suggest the original 1978 movie, but then the night of the living dead movie before that, and then Day of the dead after Dawn
The original DOTD is a masterpiece! Watch One Cut Of The Dead. One of the best Zombie films this past 10 years! Can't praise it enough
You gotta watch Land of the Dead (2005) next. It's pretty ridiculous but a fun watch.
My daughter was just born august 5th 2021. Ever since I’ve had her, every time I see a scene that involves a baby in a negative way I get super uncomfortable and thank the heavens that it’s just a movie. Parental instincts are seriously a real thing 😅
Watch Superman 1978. (Don’t get the extended 2018 cut though. It’s bad.)
I'll stick with Romero's. This is fine.. but I call it 28 Dawns Later.
They do have to do another emergency broadcast ...... And don't call me Shirley
I disagree with those saying to watch the original, I think he'd have had to watch it first to appreciate it. It is more modern than Night of The Living Dead, but it still doesn't hold up all that great (particularly the zombies) without nostalgia goggles.
The dawn of the dead remake is actually one of the rare times when a remake is good unlike most other remakes.
I'm not easily freaked out but when Zombie Andy held up that smeared sign I found that to be one of the most disturbing scenes ever!
Same. I think what makes it so distrubing is that Andy was still probably aware that he turned and couldn't do anything to stop it but a last ditch effort to let the group know that he was screwed.
That one security guard. The first time I saw this I was like 'use him as bait!' then by the end I was like 'NOOOOOO Don't you dare die!!!' lol That's good character development.
Loved this film when it came out. And the beginning started so fast which was great. No waisted time. Jumped right into the chaos.
army of the dead is a zombie flick also directed by snyder on netflix, I really liked it, give it a try
Great reaction to a great movie(I still prefer the original though).
I can only watch this once in a while because, I have zombie fatigue lol
A remake done right. Gunn and Snyder knew Romero did the social commentary and subtle horror style perfectly, and trying to emulate it would be suicide. So they went for something different. A stylish, kinetic, thrilling action horror take on the premise. One of the best action horror films I've ever seen. Honestly, I wish Gunn and Snyder would make another film together. They balance each other out so well.
I watched this every day when I was pregnant with my youngest son lol
Easily my favorite zombie movie from my childhood, with Shaun of the Dead a close second.
This movie was a childhood horror for me. There was no other movie that scared me the way this one did as a kid. I would legit have nightmares about the movie, and then go watch it again lol. Loved it!
This movie had some awesome DVD bonus features - like newscasts from the apocalypse or Andy's vlog. Be sure to check out the original Dawn of The Dead from '78 too.
This to me is the best zombie movie. Watched it a million times on dvd back in the day.

If you haven't seen Day Of The Dead I highly recommend it, best of the original trilogy!
This movie was so bloody fantastic in the cinemas
The intro always gets me, and also the interview, how he helplessly says "we don't know".
"When there's no more room in hell, the dead will walk the earth"
Yes! This is my favorite zombie movie of all time.
Love the balance of practical and CG gore in this! The CG makes it easier to just enjoy the movie but where they used practical gore, it was more in the aftermath of deaths which raised the tension for when the action kicked off! Great movie and great reaction as always Brandon!
This is one of the best remakes, and one of the most disturbing. The opening and ending credits are so super creepy, it has still stayed with me more than 15 years later.
Bro, I've been really enjoying your content! You have the eye for the finer details, and appreciate aspects of movies that a lot of people often miss! Great stuff, guy! Now me? I hated the original 1976 Dawn Of The Dead. Shit was a goofy-ass farce of a movie, constantly making fun of itself one minute, but then trying to be serious the next. Cheesy effects even for the 70s..... I mean, I'm one of those guys that thinks Romero's only good movie was the original Night of the Living Dead, so I've got a bias here. HOWEVER, this remake of Dawn of the Dead is everything the original should have been and much more!
In the Blu ray special features there's a vlog made by the gun store guy across the street which details his side of the events. It's a pretty cool little bonus.
i like this movie. i still think the 1978 Dawn is far better as a film and a zombie movie and this film could have done with losing, like, 5 characters, but it's still fun
I watched this movie a million times growing up. 😁
This is one of my favorite movies. I've seen it at least 20 times. Sooo glad you did a reaction to it. You've been reacting to some bangers lately. Keep it up, man!
This is how remakes should be done. This joins the 80’s versions of The Thing, The Fly and The Blob as the greatest remakes ever.👍🤘🏻
This is a good remake but still pales in comparison to the original. The Thing, The Fly and The Blob all, in my opinion, actually improved on their originals.

Definitely one of my ALL-TIME favorites!!! The funny part is that the movie's story takes place in my hometown of Milwaukee! In the state of Wisconsin.
The original is one of my favorite movies of all time and better than the remake for a lot of reasons but This remake is definitely a good example of a remake done right.
This was Snyder's first notable film. It was a worthy remake, which is a rarity. The cop on the TV at the beginning, the one that coined the "twitcher" phrase, was Tom Savini. He did the makeup for the original film and played the leader of a biker gang. The priest on TV during the opening credits was Ken Foree who starred in the original movie. The big lady that turned zombie from the truck survivors was a stuntman in makeup. Snyder did 300 after this film. And also, you've missed one final Tarantino film. It's one he wrote, starred, and executive produced with his good friend Robert Rodriguez. And it's a horror film too, so it's perfect for this month. I'm talking FROM DUSK TIL DAWN. You'll love it.
I love how happy you are to see the dog.
You need to react to The Return Of The Living Dead, directed by Dan O'Bannon (He wrote the story for Alien.)
It's one of the best horror comedies, but it doesn't sacrifice the horror for the comedy.
“Yoooo let’s gooo! A good boy in the apocalypse” we literally as humans with our history don’t deserve people that are genuinely wholesome. You sir are on the same level as Keanu Reeves and Paul Rudd
This film is soooooooooooo underrated
This was the very first rated R movie I’d ever seen, I was 7 or 8 at the time and I was terrified for months afterwards. That shit was scarring as a kid lol but I eventually found ways to get over my fears and now I have a necrophilia fetish.

I watched this when I was younger and this movie scared me more than any other - probably the running zombies.
Nothing will ever beat Romero's classic.
This movie beat it
This remake beat it and pooped all over it.
@@youseftoubal5176 exactly. This remake is better than original.
The best zombie movies are not about zombies at all but the living, and Romero's remake falls into this category of metaphorical greatness.
The 2004 Dawn of the Dead is prophetic eschatology. The few survivors in the movie take refuge in a mall (capitalism) but eventually have to abandon it to survive, but there is no where else to go. The world, overrun by its own created, mindless and rapacious consumers is destroyed by them.
Incidentally, four years later, capitalism itself would be proven to be the zombie when the U.S. government "bailed out" parasitic investment banks and other defunct corporations at the literal expense of its citizens, violating the very tenents of its own political-economic ideology. Then in 2020, the system continued to wrecklessly cannibalize its society based on the pretext of an actual virus, impoverishing millions more of its own while obscenely enriching a handful of "entrepreneurs" pursuing a "great reset" that seeks to enslave the living dead.
The first time I saw this, I had no clue who Zack Snyder was. I absolutely loved this movie. It wasn't until I realized he had directed 300 and Watchmen did I put the pieces together.
Nice!! Not a Snyder fan, but this movie kicks ass!! Great actors! Great song at the end! Jim Carroll, you should watch Basketball Diaries!
Fun Fact: the lady zombie who got stabbed in the eye with the spear at the mall, was actually a man playing a women. They mentioned it in one of the special features.
I still don't understand the hate this movie gets a lot of hate. I personally think this movie is awesome. You should check out Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead on Netflix.
