YES! I absolutely hate Riding Free with a PASSion and I literally ranted about it in another comment thread on this video lol.
I get that they’re trying to make a show for kids but it’s like the teen Titans reboot: the original is perfect and shouldn’t be messed with, especially not with the garbage of these spin offs/reboots

@@teentraveler1790 it’s seriously not too bad, I watch it with my niece because she loves it, and because I love her like my own daughter, by default I love spirit too. There is no need to slam on your younger siblings (or anyone for that matter) because they enjoy something that you don’t. Imagine if you were being judged by your older sibling for liking horses. It wouldn’t feel too great, plus, you could always show your siblings the shows and media you liked when you were younger, maybe horseland or the original spirit. You could even watch a few episodes of riding free with them! :) I don’t mean for this to come across as rude, but us horse kids have to stick together.

@@vanillabean5672 what I like the most about original movies like Spirit is the universe they introduce, so whenever a creator says something along the lines of “I love the world I built, but the characters story is over” I always think well, why not make more characters in this universe. The mining ponies in the original screenplay sound like they could have a story of their own! And why not focus on different time periods too!

this is my favourite animated movie and has been since i was little. however, i think the only uplifting part of the movie is the happy ending and even in that it comes with the price of three broken hearts. it's a pretty dark movie all together, and yes it has some happy bits in the middle, but most of it is of pain and struggle.

I'm happy Spirit turned out the way it did because it's the only unique horse movie that truly focuses on the horse as it's own sentient being and not just a side character for the protagonist human. It also shows the importance of freedom, true friendship between a horse and rider and tells you to never give up.

      @weloveTM123 3 роки тому +19

@@bezoticallyyours83 I've seen Black Beauty and read the novel too. While I love the messages the story gives us, it's still not about the true essence of a wild horse. It's actually about a sad, )and sometimes happy) existence of a domesticated horse, who is serving humans. Horses are more than just slaves and no other movie displays that so well as Spirit. Black Beauty was revolutionary for other reasons; it showed the mistreatment of these animals and how they deserve human kindness. Spirit Stallion of the Cimarron demonstrated the true magnificence of a free horse and how important FREEDOM is for a horse. Little Creek understood that, despite of forming a friendship with Spirit and let both Rain and Spirit go. It's very symbolic and beautiful. It truly portrayed the real essence, spirit and beauty of a Mustang. Spirit is the hero of his own movie, while other horse movies mostly use the same old cliche plot; horses are shown as human accessories to 'magnify' the protagonist human's abilities or help him/her achieve success somehow.

Spirit actually has a quite a few similarities with The Silver Brumby. Both are about a wild horse that cannot (and won't) be tamed, and both has the huge leap off/over a cliff to avoid capture. The movie version of The Silver Brumby unfortunately has a lot of humans, but still focuses on the brumbies freedom. The TV show is okay but it's very kid friendly, and the books are ONLY from the point of view of the horses, with humans pretty much only appearing as enemies of the wild horses. If you haven't watched/read it yet, I definitely recommend it. Dreamworks most likely took some inspiration from The Silver Brumby when making Spirit (not that I blame them. They still managed to create a unique story)

Riding Free is misunderstood, but that's not me saying it deserves respect.
      Things that stick out:
-its years after the 02 spirit roamed
      - they blow up the mountains that 02 Spirit became liberated on
      - the main character rejects pretty and proper at first, then becomes liberated when she learns that her mother wore beautiful dresses when dancing on horse back (which is a GREAT message to girls, like, DON'T COMPLETELY reject your feminine heritage)
BUT THE SCENE THAT GETS ME THE MOST:
In Riding Free they help a horse give birth, and for a brief couple seconds, a bag of oats flies out of the mares vagina.
      And I mean FLIES
They yank so hard that it throws them back... but its oats or mulch or what ever...
And then it turns into foal.

Wile the Dun is NOT a Bay with a cream gean, the Dun has its own gean making it a Dun. You can tell the difference between a Buckskin and a Dun because Duns have primative markings( dorsal stripe, sripes around the legs and shoulder stripes) while the Buckskin does not have any primative markings. The real life mustang that inspired Spirit is a bay dun, not a buckskin or dunskin. But Spirit lacks the typical zebra striping on the legs that marks a dun so he'd possibly be any of these. Also Rain's colour is a flaxen chestnut splash white. There is a high chance she'd be deaf too as she has white ears. But she was most likely based on a chestnut tovero.

The darker movie would have just been Black Beauty, which is a story of a horse slowly being abused and beaten down and watching his other horse friends die around him. Black Beauty ends happy (thank goodness) but it's no less compelling for it, especially since Beauty comes all to close to the fate the other horses suffer. Anyway, what would be the point? Black Beauty was written to combat systemic animal abuse and neglect in that time period. As a period piece, "Schindler's Horse" would only serve to say "Yeah, horses had it bad back then...". It would neither say anything new about horses in the past or be able to speak to modern horse abuse. Granted, I'm ripping apart a mere concept, but I rest my case. Ultimately I think it would've been a needlessly dark and derivative movie. Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron is meaningful partly because of its hope. To drain it of that would be a lifeless shell of nihilism.
Tl;dr Black Beauty is wonderful and I'm glad there's not an American animated version of it under another title.

I remember following the production of this film via email chains and forums prior to its release. Apparently the film was going to be a lot darker: Rain was going to die in an early cut. Spirit was going to witness some buffalo being hunted from the train when he was being transported in an early draft. And horses during the scene where they were pulling the train were going to be dragged away from exhaustion (which would be what gave Spirit himself the idea). They cut all of that stuff out, obviously.

To be honest I’m glad they didn’t do the bad version because it’s been done so many times, it would’ve just been considered another copy of Black beauty or warhorse. The end version of spirit stallion of the Cimarron was an absolute masterpiece and perfect just the way it is.
It’s possible the last scene was a warning of the future, as they were going back to their wild homeland they see signs that settlers are beginning to arrive. Although I think I prefer the version of the Colonel simply accepting spirits freedom.

Random thought, but going off the Colonel succeeding in breaking Spirit concept... Imagine if you will, later on, the Colonel can actually see how broken and depressed his new mount is and actually starts being softer towards him. In turn, Spirit's ... well, *spirits* are lifted, even toying with his rider (much like he did with Little Creek at times) and the two even forming that same type of bond. Some action-y stuff will happen, and nearing the end of the film, the Colonel makes the decision to ultimately set Spirit free.
Kinda gives off Hidalgo vibes at the end, but like the idea of the 'bad guy' going soft towards his depressed horse... Or something like that.
... If anyone knows of a fanfic like this, link me, please! :D

I love the original movie how it is ! The parts that weren't included seem to be too much like black beauty. As much as I love black beauty, I think spirit stallion of the Cimarron is better and a lot different compared to other horse movies. It's got that movie quality that you can just watch over and over again, and you'll always feel just as excited as the first time you watched it . Its beautifully thought through, and I love that just like black beauty that it teaches kids to be kind and respectful to wild animals and domestic animals alike . I love spirit riding free aswell as its just a fun little cartoon horse series. For those who absolutely adore horses who wouldn't like them ? The only thing that bugs me with spirit riding free is that all the English riders saddles are on back to front and they put them on the horses in separate parts . For an English rider like myself that is very frustrating, just because it's an American series doesn't mean that they need to just pay attention to detail on the American saddles only . But for those like me , this is how many people love both spirit stallion of the Cimarron and spirit riding free .👇

I personally don’t like Riding Free because it totally ruins the concept of the original movie: “spirit is a wild mustang that can never be broken.”
Spirit only let Little Creek ride him because he had the proven himself to be trustworthy and respectful of Spirit’s refusal to become an owned horse. The little girl from Riding Free is a “city girl” (which is a common theme in the cheesiest of horse movies) who moves to a country town and bonds with the wildest horse there that “no one else can tame.” It frustrates me because the writers of the show are obviously just trying to appeal to the young girls that may be watching the show instead of actually staying true to Spirit’s story and moral.
I really just ranted but I have a lot of feelings about the show.

So glad that none of these scenes made it into the final film. Way too depressing. Though the rival stallion and wagon train concepts would’ve been interesting. Spirit’s relationship with the rival may have been similar to Spirit Jr’s in Riding Free, always having to put the stallion in his place for trying to lead the herd in Spirit’s place. The wagon scene could be an earlier part where Spirit and Rain were mates to begin with and she was never tamed by humans. This is Spirit’s first meeting with humans, but he ends up captured by the two people about to leave. Worried for her mate, Rain follows them to try to rescue him, eventually reuniting and returning home together. Along the way Spirit befriends the young boy along with Little Creek, experiencing kindness and cruelty on both sides.

The mine version reminds me of a story I heard when visiting Cornwall, an area known for mining in England. It was told to me by a tour guide. In the 1800s they had pit ponies, small ponies used to pull the carts. Once they were down there, they didn't ever come back up and that they had a lot shorter lifespans due to the air. Once a mine began to slowly flood and a miner went down into the mine to shoot the ponies so they didn't suffer. Men also died in the event. The tour guide told us how when he told this story, people cried for the ponies but he was incredulous as he believed people should only cry for the men who died and at least the ponies died quickly. I was a kid at the time and the death of the ponies I guess made more impact on me than the death of the miners.
I am glad then that it wasn't in the film that ended up being. I think it would have been too dark and not been a movie I remember fondly. An interesting idea, tho.

I love the attention to detail, even in the basic concept art. In the pictures for when Spirit was tamed by the colonel, he is depicted specifically tacked with a McClellan saddle. This is a relatively unknown saddle type to the general population but would have been historically accurate for the time, location, and use. Most people would have used a western saddle for this simply because it is more well known.

And I have an idea! There is still a chance the original storyline could still be used.
But with a differenw horse. And they could ve Spirit's own foal/s.
The reason for this is due to how hard it would be to accept a new protag character in the same universe of Spirit. Because he already set a his mark on the audience so to speak. And in order to draw the light away from Spirit would be for the other horse(his kid/s) to surpass more different/severe problems. And we basically have *that* plot on a silver platter. If you ask me that would have been a great sequel.
