Being new to hockey and in my mid thirties, I find this channel is full of great tips and tricks. Happy to find this channel. 🎉

Really well broken down. At full speed in the NHL it just looks like the attacking player cuts around the defender but after watching this, it really is more than just speed. You have to set up the Deke to pull it off. Great content! Thanks

I appreciate the feedback, high end players make most skills look really easy at high speeds. It is nice to be able to break them down in order for players/coaches to work on the skill and hopefully implement it in their game.

This sounds so simple yet I wanted to say that thanks to your expertise I was able to recently apply and implement the tap through the legs in a pick up game. As someone that doesn’t have the silkiest mitts (yet) I felt very accomplished so for that I’m grateful!

James N. That is awesome news, it’s always fun to try it in a game, it is simple but looks great when you pull it off... congrats.

Thank you, glad to see that you progressed beyond stationary obstacles with real game applications. Please consider building on this tactic to include more about getting the defender to move his weight,... lunge for the puck (baiting w/ both puckhandling and pausing , and faking wrist / snap shot. Also, tricking the checker to glide out of position b/c of the way the puck carrier is presenting the puck, as well as faking pass or shot. I'd be interested to see how the puck carrier can pull the puck close to his body, essentially his/her skates, to both protect it and bait the defenders stick, and thus setting up escape (in tight) or go past / thru the def.

Thank you for the feedback Chip, yes we can definitely touch on more evasiveness, it is such a big part of the game, teaching players how to be deceptive by using their head, stick/puck and feet to set up opponents and create scoring/passing options. This is a great topic to continue expanding on.

You are the hockey coach I dont have anymore!! I played youth hockey and iam playing in belgium so there arent many age pools here, now there are 2 age pools once you passed the age of 18 recreational or just fun hockey and I wasnt fast enough of a skater to keep up with the recreational team, so I joined the funhockey team just for fun and we dont really have a coach anymore. Thanks a lot for your great step by step explanations.
One question: Most - about 90%- of the times, just before I try to slide the puck through the defender he successfully poke checks it and off it's gone.
Is it a timing thing, lack of distance, bad puck protection, bad stickhandling, ... what am I doing constantly wrong?
