      For me, definitely, but I've seen literal buckets of the stuff in the Korean stores. They usually put the industrial size stuff near the bags of rice. Enough to fill a hot tub with tteokbokki 😁

    I didn't think I could love a series more than your Let's Try series, but anything with Mama Cho is an easy winner.
    Also your mom has huge "season until your ancestors tell you to stop" energy that I absolutely adore and that I think cooking UA-cam needs way more of. Absolutely gonna try this and the mapo tofu when I go to h mart next!

      The only way to learn seasoning is to try seasoning that way.
      You'll have some under seasoned meals
      You'll have some over seasoned meals
      But eventually, you learn it all and can season by feel
      I can't remember the last time I didn't just.... add seasoning until it was correct

    My mom does the same thing, using anchovy+kelp broth for the sauce. It really does add a lot of depth of flavor. You could probably just use some instant hondashi or something instead of preparing the broth yourself, though. That would also probably make it easier to make a thick sauce rather than the soupier type, though it looked like the sauce thickened up quite a bit in the final image.
    Also, 10:07 that look of indignation, as if there's anyone with even the tiniest speck of Korean blood who doesn't know what mandoo is. "Do you know kim-CHEE" 😂

      Dried anchovies and dried kelp are a bit of a pain to find in my area for decent prices so I use some of a chicken or vegetable dried stock cube.

    Thank you for sharing your mom's recipe! I actually make tteokbokki fairly regularly but always wonder why it doesn't taste quite right. I realized watching this video that there are a few steps I can change or improve upon (like the stock being made from anchovies and kombu). Thank you for the tips and the great vibes!

    We tend to make ours with kimchi and more water, with a TON of ramyeon and rice cakes. Sometimes spam or sausage, too hahaha

    Thank you for this! So funny tteokbokki story: Once HMart opened in our area I went down to check it all out. I knew little of the culture or food. There was a display of treats near the register. So I picked up some for our family to try. The tteokbokki was there too and I picked some up as well thinking it was a sweet. 😂

    Ooh, I love tteokbokki! The way I usually make it is a lot simpler though, I just make a sauce with dashi powder, chicken bouillon and gochujang, then add the rice cakes, green onions and imitation crab and boil until the rice cakes are soft. I'm gonna have to try this recipe though cause that looks amazing! Never would have even thought of adding eggs!
