- Mandy Fan (Fan Manyun 范嫚紜) is one of the world’s leading
Taiji champions. Taijiquan, within the modern sport of Wushu includes nandu (difficulties 难度) which are extreme skills, akin to the sorts of requirements used in gymnastic competitions. Made more challenging, as well as easier to judge, the Taiji divisions within Modern Wushu are one of the most difficult. A Taiji competitor must transition smoothly between extremes - from slow soft movements to explosive flying kicks. In some ways, it is an ultimate expression of Taiji to be able to go from that stillness to explosiveness and then return to stillness; all while retaining perfect balance.
In this video Mandy Fan demonstrates her form at the FREE DEMO & WORKSHOP at Ohlone College Newark Center in conjunction with the Tiger Claw Foundation.
such grace and skills....such a contrast to the likes of Karate and the more physical forms of martial arts.
Mandy is awesome! Big fan here in NYC!
蠶絲功。
This is glorious, I have been researching "learning powerful methods to build your Chi energy" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Fellmeroni Rudimentary Chi - (do a google search ) ? Ive heard some awesome things about it and my mate got cool success with it.
Beautiful taiji. Natural flexible, just beautiful!
I take Kung Fu lessons and someone in the advance class told me I should watch her on UA-cam and I don't regret it 😀
Good advice !
For those who are not Chinese or can read English, this is absolutely NOT classic Taijiquan. True Taijiquan movements are boring to watch and do not jump around or twist your body with nonsense fancy movements. What you are watching here was designed strictly for stage performance and should be called Taiji “dance”. It is not martial art, period. Some will not agree with me but I stand by my words.
Bear in mind that Taiji is an ancient martial art for defense. The forms do not mean anything. Fa Jing is the beginning technique for fighting. Again, Fa Jing is not just pushing like Sumo or Judo. Be aware! I have been practicing authentic Taiji for over 30 years. Not many people can move me a bit when I stand still.

@Ngo david His form is legitimate. Today many people bring the foot to the heel or knee before each step. That is totally unnecessary and no advantage in real application by doing this. Probably two reasons: 1) Make Taiji more dance-like appealing. 2) Someone way back was unable to keep his balance so his teacher told him to bring the foot to heel before each step to keep his balance. Then either the teacher forgot to correct it later or this guy misunderstood the purpose.
She's as beautiful as her tai chi movements... Like a fairy in a fairytale
Beautiful !!!!!
Give her some skating boots , she would be amazing on ice with yuzuru ! What a grace !
Wow mind blowing up love it
Wonderful
can i with taiji?
Pretty and talented. Respect and my salute to you.
what's the name of the song?
Amazing!
Whoa, I go to ohlone
This is crazy
Bravo!!!!
我想问有谁知道她用什么曲子?
Awesome
She has very nice Tai Chi, is very flexible and dynamic. The gymnastic moves detract from her Tai Chi skills. I know they want to see this in competitions but I personally think it lessons the art.
I agree Ralph. I think it misrepresents Taiji to those who don't know any better.
ralph dehner Looks like you're stuck in 'Tofu Tai Chi' mode.
Stick with the old people in the park.
They're doing forms, NOT real Tai Chi.
William Palminteri Looks like you're stuck in 'Tofu Tai Chi' mode along with Ralph..

Sorry, William. You do not know enough about Ralph or myself to make such a suggestion. It also infers that you do not know what 'old people in the park' know! I wish you the best in your taiji journey.
Modern competitive wushu is a different animal than traditional martial art. This young woman is a skilled and athletic performer but this is not taijiquan. As far as the "old people in the park", are we referring to someone who takes lessons from a fitness instructor at the community center or someone who trained under a high level master for 10 years and has practiced daily for 40 years? It makes a difference. Forms are the basis but hardly the whole of the practice. Don't confuse pretty dance and gymnastics with the real thing.
Nice taichi

You are not entirely correct - you are presumably thinking about Yang Style. If you research Chen Style you will find jumps and kicks. Granted here she is exaggerating and putting in ballet type/gymnastics for a special performance
Misrepresents taijiquan
Uno Noname
Jealous, eh? Bet you cant even squat to Take crap?..
Not really.
In combat, Tai Chi is meant to be lightning fast and deadly.
The slow forms that yo see are to develop proper muscle coordination.
You can't use this Form for fighting. For dancing forms it's very good but the fighting techniques here are totally ruined.
Uno Noname ,
You are right!
It's just a different style. For example, you wouldn't put a dancer in a boxing ring.
Very nice...now get in the kitchen and make me some dinner!
this is gymnastics, not Tai-chi.
What??? Have you trained??
Are u an idiot.
