Annulment means the wedding did not really happen therefore null, divorce on the other hand means that the man and woman are formerly married but no longer after divorce, the annulment means no marriage has pushed through in the first place therefore when a marriage between a man and a woman was annuled that means they were never married in the first place.

    Divorce as a Right
    1. Individual Autonomy and Freedom:
    • Divorce can be seen as a manifestation of an individual’s right to personal autonomy and freedom. This perspective argues that individuals have the right to make decisions about their own lives, including the decision to end a marriage.
    2. Protection from Harm:
    • In cases of abuse, neglect, or irreparable breakdown of a marriage, divorce can be seen as a right to protect individuals from harm and to ensure their well-being. This aligns with human rights principles that protect individuals from suffering and uphold their dignity.
    3. Equality:
    • Ensuring the right to divorce can promote gender equality by allowing both men and women to leave marriages that are harmful or no longer serve their interests. This is particularly significant in contexts where women might be more vulnerable within marital relationships.
    Divorce as a Privilege
    1. Cultural and Religious Beliefs:
    • In some cultures and religious traditions, marriage is viewed as a sacred and indissoluble institution. In these contexts, the ability to divorce might be restricted, and when allowed, it may be seen more as a privilege granted under specific circumstances rather than a fundamental right.
    2. Legal Restrictions:
    • In some jurisdictions, legal frameworks might impose strict conditions on divorce, treating it as a privilege that must be justified and granted by the state. This can include requirements such as proving fault, undergoing counseling, or fulfilling separation periods.
    Philippine Context
In the Philippines, divorce is currently not available under the general civil law (with the exception of Muslims governed by the Code of Muslim Personal Laws). The options available are legal separation, annulment, and nullity of marriage, each with specific legal requirements and processes.
If Congress were to pass a divorce law, the debate would likely include discussions on whether divorce should be treated as a right accessible to all individuals under certain conditions, or as a privilege subject to specific legal and moral standards.
Ultimately, whether divorce is seen as a right or a privilege can influence how laws are framed and implemented, impacting individuals’ ability to leave marriages that no longer serve their needs or well-being.

A 1985 study tracked 1,000 families with children aged 6 to 18 for six years and found that children living in intact married families exhibited the least delinquency, while children with stepfathers were more likely to demonstrate the most disruptive behaviors.
In a British longitudinal study of males aged 8 to 32, David P. Farrington, professor of criminology at Cambridge University, found that the divorce of parents before a child reached age 10 is a major predictor of adolescent delinquency and adult criminality.
A recent U.S. longitudinal study which tracked over 6,400 boys over a period of 20 years (well into their adult years) found that children without biological fathers in the home are roughly three times more likely to commit a crime that leads to incarceration than are children from intact families

Kelly, J. B., & Emery, R. E. (2003), "Children's adjustment following divorce: Risk and resilience perspectives," explores various factors influencing how children adjust to divorce. Here is a summary focusing on the potential positive influences or effects on children:
Resilience Perspective: The study emphasizes that many children show resilience in the face of divorce, adapting well to changes in family structure and dynamics.
Reduced Exposure to Conflict: Divorce can remove children from high-conflict environments, reducing emotional distress and allowing them to thrive in more stable and supportive settings.
Improved Parent-Child Relationships: Post-divorce, parents may prioritize their children's well-being more effectively, leading to improved relationships and stronger emotional bonds.
Development of Coping Skills: Going through divorce can foster the development of coping skills and emotional maturity in children, preparing them to handle adversity later in life.
Individualized Attention: In some cases, children may receive more individualized attention from parents post-divorce, which can positively impact their emotional and psychological development.
Overall, while divorce can be challenging for children, the study suggests that under certain circumstances, it can lead to positive outcomes such as improved family relationships, reduced stress, and opportunities for personal growth and resilience. These factors contribute to a nuanced understanding of the effects of divorce on children's well-being.

Denying Filipinos the right to get out of such abusive relations and effectively imprisoning them to that kind of life is MORALLY wrong! And as a Catholic you should understand that, do more research sir. And it doesn't mean na if you're a Catholic and you go against one of its beliefs means that the Catholic Church should change. Jesus, not the Catholic Church nor any Pope, created the Divorce Law. No Law Maker on earth has the authority to amend a law. Marriage is not for everyone and nowhere are we commanded to marry. If you choose to get married, you are choosing to enter into a covenant with God and vowing to be faithful to that covenant. This decision therefore should not be taken lightly. God says “it’s better to not make a vow then to make a vow and not keep it.” Eccl 5:5.Since marriage is God’s covenant, man does not decide the terms of the marriage covenant - God does, and God is very specific about those terms. God tells us the duration of the marriage relationship is “till death do us part”. The Apostle Paul says “A married woman is bound to her husband as long as he is alive, but if her husband dies, she is released from the law of marriage Rom 7:2.

And "divine law" has no place in a society. Philippines is not a theocracy ruled by the friars. When somebody wants to follow "divine law", then decide not to separate and not to remarry. What we need is an alternative solution to absolute divorce.
    1. Strengthen Support Systems - the state should create and focus on strengthening support systems for families and couples, such as counseling services, financial assistance, and other programs aimed at preventing domestic violence.
    2. Reform Annulment and Legal Separation - make the process for legal separation and annulment more accessible and affordable which could provide a balanced solution without introducing absolute divorce.
    Conclusion:
While the challenges of marital discord and abuse are real and need to be addressed, the introduction of an absolute divorce law may not be the most effective solution for the Philippines. Several factors, like cultural, social, and economic factors, suggest that maintaining the current system, with potential reforms to improve access to existing legal remedies, better serve the interests of Filipino families and society.
