It is being touted by Project Cars game developer Slightly Mad Studios. As a racing game console it makes sense with VR support. Now if it is used for only their racing game that I don’t know. They just make Project Cars Pro which is being developed for Porsche with VR as the main feature.
The same thing I thought about the Retro VGS, Coleco Chameleon, Retroengine Sigma, Ataribox, Ouja, and the Crank Dat soldja you console. This is stupid and I doubt it will do well if it even comes out.

They said historically. And yes, the average PC is still far less powerful outright (and far more poorly optimized) than the latest versions of the consoles.
Server location is also important. Not just a fast connection. Which is why I disagree that cloud gaming will work for developing countries. Server locations are not common near those countries.
"Finally, Slightly Mad Studios has agreed to change how the World of Mass Development operates in future, "So as to avoid it being considered a collective investment scheme."
If you look back in history, there's really only room for 2 to 3 successful home video game consoles in any given market. If any other one becomes successful without Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony falling out of the market, I would be shocked.
I think there is not space for ANOTHER competitor, I think we currently have too many as is. The only one that is currently intriguing is the Intellivision Amico. It might be a big flop, but at least they are trying to do something slightly different.
So, I think it's the same principle as to why companies can't make new soft drinks with success. No matter how good it is, they get squashed like a bug beneath Pepsi and Coke products because of how integrated they are with society and how much shelf-space they occupy. I really don't think a new console will be able to come in and have success anywhere close to what Microsoft and PS4 are getting.
I have a fast connection and streaming games works... you can play and get the story, but it's a sad and awful experience if you know what playing the game on the system is like...
@Lassi Kinnunen that's pretty rich considering how unfriendly SMS games are to the end user and how much dicking around it takes to get things configured in their games. Riddled with stupid choices to grab a quick buck.
A lot of times PC takes time to catch up to the consoles? Up to TWO YEARS? What are you guys on? Yes, the PS2 was ahead of time, I'll admit that. But cutting edge technology wasn't the reason, the game devs and humongous production budgets were. So I'd like to hear more about these cutting edge advanced technologies you refer to.

Just upgrade your PC and get an NVidia Shield. Consoles are becoming more and more irrelevant each year while the PC will always be around in one form or another. Also it looks like a lit up napkin or condiment holder - not something I'd want to see in my living room.
Why would you get a Nvidia Shield? To stream games to a portable console? Just get the Steam app and a controller for your phone, and you can stream games to that. Also, for my TV I bought a Steam link for $2.50 when it when on sale. Shipping was like $8 lol but still that's less than $15 total compared to the Shield console which costs like $200. And at $200, you might as well get an Xbox One, at least that comes with a 4K blu-Ray player. You'd probably be using your Shield mostly as a media machine anyways.
@@brickman409 shhhhh! Silence! You will purchase the objectively pointless and underpowered shield for reasons! Move along with these noises of dissent, how dare you!
We shall not call "Console" to every proto type unkown companies develop, it is not a console unless it has 100% approval from licenced companies placing their titles in it for mass production, unless there are titles such as God of war, Halo or even Nintendo games can't be called a console.
I honestly don't see the point of this when I can buy an Android box, have all my emulators on it, be able to buy a couple of advance major titles, and still have all the apps that I use on a regular basis without having to pay more than 100 bucks
You say VR is a niche right now but what about 3 years from now? Maybe they think in 3 years it won't be. I think it will fail but to say they need to develop a console based on now for 3 years from now seems foolish.
It seems like every Tom, Dick, and Harry in the get rich quick scheme scene is going all in on these 'console' scams... err... enterprises. Like everywhere you look some huckster has some cheap ass clone console or Android box from China to hawk as some revolutionary gaming system nobody's seen before.
Hang on, hang on. There's a lot more to this story. Ian Bell is fully deserving of a 'scammer' tag. Let me take you back: EA releases Shift 2, a racing 'simulator', developed by SMS. The community notices various problems with the game (buggy, trash AI, bad physics) and begins tearing into the code, finding numerous bugs that are simple laziness (for example: porsche gt3 fuel tank outside of the vehicle, according to the code/physics engine). All kinds of stupid oversights and problems. No one is very impressed, the game is not really as advertised and it is very poorly optimized. Eventually, Ian Bell rolls up into the main forum where the work to turn shift 2 into something closer to a 'simulator' is taking place. He blames EA for the problems, saying they were 'rushed' and under pressure. Quickly, it becomes a sale's pitch, 'If only it was under our control, we would make the best simulator in the world and fix all the bugs! Stupid EA is the problem!' That led directly to a crowdfunding campaign for "Project CARS", including 'investment' incentives (which was never properly investigated by the authorities). Millions were raised, dates slipped and the game was a buggy piece of shit, with problems from shift 2 ported directly into the 'new' game. Bugs were rampant and support was dropped long before the AI, physics, stability, UI....before any part of the damned game was actually fixed. Right on to PCARS 2....Which is another buggy POS, hardly any different than the first one and still full of bugs, some new, some old. Around the time of PCARS 2 launch, Ian Bell moved to Asia from the UK to dodge taxes. He's a piece of shit scammer who has never released a properly optimized or debugged game. He has done his best to bury the truth, but you can still dig it out of Google. 100% without a doubt, everything he's saying about this console is BULLSHIT. He has no hardware (or software) expertise, nor does he have the resources to pursue this. This will turn into another crowdfunding scam. Just watch. Oh yeah, he also bought out his biggest public critic and had him scrub all the information he had collected. Austin Ognoski went from critic to shill real quick.
I was hoping that of all the UA-camrs, at least Pat and Ian would see the niche audience that this box COULD be shooting for before bashing it so hard. I'm not saying this will be a success - it most likely won't be - but it may be trying to scratch an itch among that certain subset of "console-only" gamers who refuse to buy a PC, sit at a desk, launch a constantly-updating windows OS, and install/tweak game files just to enjoy a darn video game. But these same folks are also well aware that ONLY high-end PC's are able to run the newest games at the highest framerates and with the best textures, etc, and that very well could be a source of envy. Further, it's conceivable that some upcoming PC titles may not be slated to get a console version at all. So, if there was to exist a "console-ized" PC box...and a quick and easy way for developers to "convert" and "console-ize" existing and upcoming PC games...then that unit might very well be appealing to this niche set of "never-ever-keyboard" gamers. It is also possible that Slightly Mad Studios is aware of several upcoming titles or maybe even a genre we don't even know about, that will for whatever reason NOT be coming out on "normal" consoles (or coming out, but severely crippled) and as a result they are looking to fill that upcoming product gap with their own box. If they do succeed it will be Microsoft who will be the biggest loser as they are the ones best poised to make a true "console-ized" PC, and have chosen not to. (To me a console-ized PC is not exactly the same thing as an X-Box One).
Cloud gaming will only last for so long. The internet will eventually will be choked on bandwidth like our interstates already are with vehicles due to the fast growth of the population. It will then more than likely revert back to playing locally on your console. That's just what I think will happen.
I don't see the issue with other consoles. It waters down the console war that Sony started because of their insecurities, so I don't have an issue if something tries to shake it up.
Jesus Christ cut Madbox some slack. It was just announced. Its about time to see some other competition out there that isnt a shit android box or steam machine. If it flops, at least these guys tried without some retro aspect. I say wait and see what happens. Prime example? First xbox.

Also not once in history has “PC” had to catch up with console graphics, not even this generation.
Did you say it takes PC a couple years to catch up to consoles? lol.
Right? That's back-asswards.
Hey Zeus there was never a moment in time when a PS4 or XB1 was as powerful as a good gaming PC. Not even close.
Exactly. Even for the same price. Provided you don't just grab whatever crap is on sell at Best Buy.
Yeah, that's backwards as hell. Consoles come out with specs that were high 2 years ago in the PC world.
