The guys from The Dread Crew of Oddwood call this "Heavy Mahogany". Check 'em out, very cool band. Nothing similar to Heilung but, either way, very original sound.
I think Maria is really hitting the nail on the head. Certain things have nothing to do with culture, experience or preference. All of our ancestors have been sitting around the same fire, under the same sky, surrounded by the same darkness. Heilung strikes chords that have been hardwired within us for dozens of millennia. It just became unusual for us to remember those chords.
My favourite kind of Metal is the type you can march to war to. That primal, gutteral beat and chugging rhythm. Heilung fits the bill as well as Amon Amarth do.

Right? And it makes no sense! Their music is rarely withing the standard definition of calming or soothing, but I can feel myself at peace when listening to them.
@@ichbinjasokreativ2452 Yeah it definitely subverts your expectations. But I think it makes sense, in the end what comes through is their intentions and commitment, that effect could only have come from people who value calmness and healing.

Totally agree on the varied audience. When I saw them in Kopenhagen I saw people dressed as vikings, tunicas and stuff, saw metal heads with leather jackets, band patches all over, saw more casual people looking like they came from their everyday life, saw people in suits, looking like they came from their office or workplace parking their Mercedes outside. Elder people and minor kids. Every single one of them lost their shit on the last song and no one, absolutely no one sat down, but stomped their feet and waving their arms instead.
