Fun facts: Melba still holds the record for holding a note for 23 seconds for a song that hit #1 on the Billboard charts! The previous record was held by Donna Summer's "Dim all the lights" which stood at 17 sec in 1979.
Melba holds the record at 36 seconds for The Other Side of the Rainbow ...for a female. Richard Fink owns the record at 103 seconds. But Melba sounds better.
She has a better version, and I am upset that I no longer have it, I had the video. She sung live on the Tony Orlando show in Detroit. She had on a white pantsuit, and she held that note and really ended it beautifully. I have been looking for that version for years and so far, can't find it. However, I am not going to give up. Someone may eventually post it.
One of the most beautiful songs ever, by one of the most beautiful and talented singers/entertainers ever....the incomparable Miss Melba Moore....she needs some lifetime achievements awards, and not posthumously...while she's on this side of life.🥰😘👏
@@thealphaandomega9348....but in respect to the Queen of holding notes....she ran out of air because she held the note about 15 seconds longer than expected...she stretched herself to thin....that's why it was shaky....none of us could have held that note for 15 seconds period, without shaking....it's amazing she didn't pass out....she was still the best at it.... better than anyone ever was or ever will be.🤔🥰

I miss the elegance that our Black entertainers displayed back in the days. The respect and dignity in the way they carried themselves. They seemed to understand their role in American society and the importance of promoting positivity within Black communities. What happened and what caused the change? 😞
Love Melba Moore ❤and never saw her performing this song live She truly has a special and unique voice Gosh I miss the 80s when people really sang and carried themselves with elegance and respect
This woman is so incredible and super underrated!! Melba Moore effortlessly honed her craft in such elegant and sophisticated style! She must have double capacity lungs as well. This is what I miss about the music industry when Black women and men focused on their actual talent (for the most part) instead of who can twerk, booty-shake, coochie-pop, and show the most skin and sex references the most. It's sad to see how almost none of the current artists today value themselves and bodies above material and superficial entities. Sure, money is great to have and even needed but achieved in the wrong way defeats the greater purpose. I feel like all of our ancestors have died in vain; who fought to get respect, decency, and equality on all fronts just to have our newest generations move backwards!
Love her talent, beauty, elegance and grace, she had that walk down those steps and the swinging of that dress down pat!, her holding that note was impressive! 💖🎶, I miss when singers were like this.
I saw her when she san at the Kennedy center the most exciting evening I had and to see this video. I got o recently called her agent and he said how did you get my number. She is still singing which I was thrilled to fine out. I would love to be able to see her again.

@@jayelove1504 False, many can and do hold notes longer and without falling a part at the ending. You tried it. But it's. Fail.
