This is an awesome tutorial video. Probably one of the best I've come across. Simple, basic instruction that is clear and concise, without the fancy footage of guys out calling in the field, or annoying background music that makes it difficult to hear what I need to hear. I have already watched this video, duck call in hand, about half a dozen times, probably going to be watching it over and over for weeks to come.
Great Video Bob!! I watched a few how to call videos and yours is the best, too many people are over complicating the process. Thanks for keeping it simple
It seems that what he is suggesting is against all of what I've been told about calling. I was told anchor the tip of your tongue on the back of your top teeth the. Build pressure from the fogging of the window the let that pressure out by letting the tongue down and then slamming it back up to end the note/quack.
This is a really great video. I have been practicing my duck calling (off and on) for a year now and still have trouble getting the right tone in the quack without using voice or a growl in the call. One thing that I still have not seen in any duck calling instructional video is "technique faults". What I mean by that is for someone to demonstrate faults in technique and the sounds that result from those faults. I swear I am doing everything you say in this video, but I get a high pitch quack. So what is causing it? If there was a video that showed some technique faults it would help guide me in the right direction. Thanks!
Matthew Kisner Make sure you are bringing your air from your diaphram. Also using the middle part of your tongue to cut off the notes will help to give a deeper tone. Also keep your throat open.
+Matthew Kisner, I do have videos like available. I do them on a one on one basis tho. and on Facebook. I have a private page setup to help people learn to call. I can take a video they post to the page and and make a video response with what they are doing into the call and how to correct it. You can search "Duck Lander Calling page" on facebook to find it. If you are having a hard time with getting your call to sound full without grunting, you need to open your throat. If you have tight throat muscles your throat will be closed. A closed throat will make faster air which makes a higher pitched sound. Think of it like squeezing garden hose to send the water our farther and faster. Same deal. This is the hardest part of calling. It is human nature to tighten up when blowing air. This is what you do to blow out candles or cool food.
I've found that the cavity of air you begin with drastically changes the tune of the quack. Like if your tongue is completely flat when you begin pressurizing the call it'll be a much different sound than if you start with your tongue already arched. You may play around with that, I've found my sweet spot that way and now I can get down low and raspy or I can make it a higher pitch for other calls. On a comeback call for example, I keep it higher pitched and faster than a regular hail, which is slower and more raspy

What call is he using there? I know it's one of the ones they make but not sure which. Just curious.
