my thoughts exactly on the Ion. 2 or 3 weeks ago I told someone that it seemed like they (Storm) was really manufacturing hype for it, inorganically. Yes, every ball company tries to create hype for their new releases. But this one felt different. And as soon as I saw the news regarding the X-Cell, I immediately went where you did - why on earth would they go through all of the trouble marketing like they did just to release a new Cell alongside of it? Attention was just diverted.

As someone who needs a lot of traction, especially since the majority I bowl on is 4:1 or less, I need these big control monsters, I’m excited and hoping to see if I can get this one to be a step down from my Harsh Reality and a step up from my benchmark, I’ve been really missing that piece in between. Crossing my fingers and pressing my thumbs this one is it!!!🥳
I had the Strike Cell which was an overseas release. If this ball is anything like that then we have a winner. The Strike Cell was awesome.
I just want a perfect cell with a green purple color. I mean it would just be an insta-buy.
As a new comer to the sport I will still be more interested in the Ion Pro for a second or third ball in the bag to pair with my Eternity Pi and Optimum Idol, to be fair. This ball looks pretty cool, but we will have to see if it performs better than the Pi for my style of throw to dethrone my beloved Pi. I know Luke may have not liked the Pi so much for himself but as his counterpart has shown for her it's a great ball, and I have to agree I love mine. I know this will have much more action in the hook than the Pi given the numbers, but I think it's more of a nostalgia release for those that have thrown these before. Maybe I'm just a noobie, but that is my first impression. Feel free to tell me I'm dumb and wrong haha! Also, yes this is Golf season!
It's also sport shot season because people only have to suffer for a few weeks 😅

It's unfortunate that the 14lb core numbers are so SO different than the 15lb.
Yeah, to be fair this has always been an issue with this specific core, so at the very least for the 14 pound users that are a fan of the Cell line, they're not suddenly going to be faced with a somewhat different ball in this one if the numbers were instead a little closer, at least they'll still be in familiar territory.
@@LukeRosdahl The Cell and Hyper Cell are two of the best balls I've ever thrown, but back when I was using those, I was throwing 15 lb stuff. I have since dropped to 14 lb. Do you know how big of a difference in shape I could really expect out of this particular core in 14?
@@djbelc01 I'm not sure it's going to be super significant, but a 5 point difference in RG is significant on paper. It's definitely not going to roll or rev up as soon.
@@LukeRosdahl Yeah, that's my concern. I know on paper vs. on the lanes doesn't always correlate quite how you'd expect, but on paper it sure looks like a massive difference, so I'm not sure how excited I should be about this ball if I'm throwing the vastly different 14 lb core.
What was the purple silver and dark purple ball you were throwing?

With the X-cell's numbers being virtually identical to the Black Widow 3.0, what's the chances of seeing a video of seeing the X-cell's reaction versus the BW?
I'd have to get an X for that to happen and I'm not sure it will.

Hyper Cell Fused. I thought it was something everyone would recognize so I didn't put anything on the screen but seems that I should have!
How does the X-cell compare to the Nuclear Cell?
X will definitely be earlier and smoother, probably a little stronger, but a good complement

B7 can pump out 5 releases at a time and bury an entire line at times! All companies do it lol!
Well but B7 has 7 companies, so that's going to happen occasionally. Storm has a history of really odd choices like this though, plus they overlap stuff quite a bit too which is really where the biggest problem lies. B7 announces stuff, releases it, then gives it a couple weeks to breathe. Storm will announce something, get all excited, and then right before it releases, they'll announce something else and constantly shift the attention. Their scheduling and planning leaves a lot to be desired.
@@LukeRosdahl I still prefer made in the USA than made in MX, no matter the schedule and hype.
@LukeRosdahl not starting a Holy war here bud, just speaking from my experience being on the DV8 brand for 5+ years as a Staffer. It's tough to continually be told to "stay within your brand" and continually see your brand never be complete from top to bottom like the Brunswick and Hammer side. Also frustrating to get hyped about a release then have to wait 6, 8 months yo over a year before you get a Hybrid or pearl version of a specific ball you want. Again both of us are splitting hairs here probably, but they do some head scratchers over there too lol.
Oh sure, I'm just more or less saying that it appears B7 is getting their ducks in a row now, while Storm for a couple years now has been doing some really weird things, and is continuing to double down. I'm in nobody's corner so I'm not looking at it from any perspective but my own. I think there's 2 or 3 B7 brands that could be dropped and nobody would notice or miss them tbh . . but they're also not making 40 minute ego stroking presentations for stuff just to do something like this either.
@LukeRosdahl best thing B7 has done that all companies should do to help the market is the Quantum Evo series. Give me a solid and pearl with the same release date that's a 1-2 punch. If we need the hybrid I'm good waiting 6 mo the cause I feel my lineup is set for that length anyways. I wish all companies would follow that basic marketing strategy. Alot less stuff would get lost and the consumer doesn't get overwhelmed with mass releases every month!
Core numbers in 14lbs are wayyyy different.

Lol yes they do. Summer is the off season for league and the vast majority of people don't bowl summer leagues. I know all kinds of people that won't touch a ball between now and August, and having worked in a pro shop for 15 years, people don't buy much over the summer. Release dates definitely matter.
@@LukeRosdahl I just started bowling this year and love it so much I just can’t imagine going months without bowling. I guess when you have been bowling your whole life things are different
@@shanenorthrop1969 Yeah, I mean bowling season is 9 months long, people that have been doing it for a while definitely want those 3 months off to golf, cook out, camp out, etc. Last place they want to be is in a bowling alley when it's nice outside.
