Frozen condensate pipes from boilers cause the whole system to shut down and heating systems to stop working... This Boiler Trace Condensate kit is the solution.....
I got the same setup, boiler in the garage. Had exactly this problem every year, so I fitted trace heating, basically the same as you did there, never had the problem since. If anyone has this problem with their boiler then I highly recommend this All the best for 2025 Mark
Have seen these fitted outside the pipe but to be honest didnt know they can be fitted inside neat job again solves the problem and keeps the homeowner warm
When mine first froze up maybe 15 years ago I sorted it with warm water, from atop a ladder in a blizzard. My combi is in the loft and the condensate pipework drains into the top of a convenient external drainpipe. After a few days like that I figured a way to set up an indoor run off into a plastic bowl which I emptied daily during winter. After a couple of years doing this I modified the exterior portion of the pipework replacing the half inch pipes with three quarter inch and taking a stupid 45 degree elbow out of the run, replacing that with a 135 degree one, to keep the water flowing more freely. Had this not been successful I planned to look at one of those heaters but all seems good now.
Happy New Year! Mark. Great Video and neat work as always. Just reminded me about a job a few years ago, condensate keeps freezing. Boiler was in upstairs bathroom cupboard and condensate ran externally front of house, all the way down to gully, wasn’t the best install. I advised customer I can get rid of that and run it internally into waste after doing a bit of digging etc. They said I wasn’t allowed to put it into waste etc😅, advised them other option is to keep it where it is and I’ll tidy it up and install trace heating etc. They wasn’t having none of it🤦♂️. That sort of customer who knows best, guessing it’s still freezing up😂. Keep up the great work🛠️👍
As said by many others, just lagging is needed. Ive never had a freeze up in all the years since condensing boilers came out. Make sure the correct insulation is fitted properly and away you go.
Happy New Year Mark. I’ve fitted many trace heaters, since the 2009/2010 deep freeze winter. If possible, I would always use 45 degree fittings, and not 90 degree elbows or swept bends. Either way, though trace heater kits, were and still are an easy solution, to a great inconvenience…
Great video mark had the same problems during the week with the cold weather and condense pipes even inch and a half frozen solid, heat trace is the answer and should be fitted as standard. Hope you asked mr gdb recovery could you use his music 😂😂😂😂
Top tip next time you fit one of those and you want to see it working ie the green light on is spray a little pipe freezer spray on the silver temperature sensor 😉
Hi Mark, just to say Happy New Year to you. All the best for 2025, keep up the great content. Shame you didn't quite get your 40k subs, no doubt the next week or two you'll get there! 🎉🎉
Hi Mark, Hope you had a great New Year and all the best for 2025. This product looks and sounds great, I am already a fan of Snug products. The call outs have already started coming in due to the cold 🥶 weather. As always take care mate, regards Chris. 👍👍👍
If the condensate pipe is lagged the the other kit seems superfluous. I live in central Scotland and have lagged my external 22mm condensate pipe. I have had no problems with it freezing over the last 15 yrs.
Things like this have to be done because the so called " Heating Engineer " I use these words very loosely. Who will have been Gas Safe registered and with a million years experience the job. Carried out a "Professional " install. Where the owner may have paid top dollar for the job. 😊
Sometimes they freeze if your heating doesn't run enough just before and during the cold weather. You've probably avoided it because you've kept your house warm and not relied on the frost protection mode.
Thanks for that, Mark. The condensate run often seems to be a bit of an afterthought and you end up with a long, shallow, uninsulated pipe that works fine when it’s put in but freezes up just when you need it most. I suppose with people running their combis a bit cooler these days, that might play a part too.
Hi Mark. As you have lagged the outside pipe, could you of just left it like that without trace cable.Surely the lagging would keep pipe warm enough.regards Lester
@ Thank you. I think the confusion might be C vs F because water freezes at 32’ Fahrenheit . I’m in USA and looking at my fridge settings right now and the refrig is set at 40’ F and the freezer at -1’ F. Not trying to give you a hard time, but I had condensate line freezing problems years ago, so I’m very interested. (Go easy; I’m an old guy 😀).
Madness - install the condensate properly in the first place - correct falls, max length and correct type and diameter of insulation. These freeze when its not done properly.
The solution is to do the job properly following manufacturing instructions, the pipe should never be 22.5 mm should be 32 mm before exiting the wall and lagging outside.

Yep these ones go internal👌🏼👌🏼
Brilliant vid! Never new anything about this product, well worth knowing. Thanks Mark😊😊👍👍
Thanks buddy 👍🏼👍🏼
35mm unslit ht solar insulation with 50mm waste clips. Job done.
👍🏼… a few ways to solve the problem of frozen pipes

Glad to hear it mate….👍🏼👍🏼
Internal pipework is always best
Thanks for the vid mate. I've heard of this before but never seen it, so thanks for sharing. Happy New Year! 🥂

Nice tidy install Mark 👍🏻 interesting product

Yep I’ve worked with Snug as you will know, for a good few years now…. And this is great
Happy New Year, TIff.

HNY 👍🏼👍🏼
Interesting product, cheers Mark
Very good product to stop the age old problem of frozen condensate pipework 👍🏼👍🏼
Cool video mate handy to know when them type of jobs come in
👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks for that, Mark. The condensate run often seems to be a bit of an afterthought and you end up with a long, shallow, uninsulated pipe that works fine when it’s put in but freezes up just when you need it most. I suppose with people running their combis a bit cooler these days, that might play a part too.
They will freeze unless something is done with them 👍🏼
An excellent bit of kit Mark, thanks for showing it. 👍
That’s mate…. Yep it’s great
thank you , what make is the insulation lagging and is it uv protected keep the vids coming
Armaflex I think it was
Happy New Year Mark, a nice piece of kit, just in time for the cold weather coming. Any idea of the cost?
Exactly that Keith….👌🏼👌🏼👍🏼
Another amazing video Mark
Thanks mate
Hi Mark.

Lagging is specified in the instructions…. 👍🏼
Your a Good man MJ
Thanks mate 👍🏼👍🏼
Happy new year Mark. What thermal camera are you using.
HNY mate..
I use a HikMicro Pocket 2 camera 👍🏼👍🏼
You should drill holes into the brick not the cement to hold that new bit of kit.
It’s just a hole mate
32 mm pipe is what british standards now require for externally pipe since 2010 which was very cold winter and every pipe froze
Yep👍🏼
You should drill into the Brick not the Mortar for that new Thermostat.
There is no right or wrong way mate…. It’s just a hole🤣
Great video. One question: Won’t you still risk freezing with such a low set point 3’F ?
No…. Water freezes at 0degrees mate, think like this…your fridge is 3/4degrees and that doesn’t freeze
@ Thank you. I think the confusion might be C vs F because water freezes at 32’ Fahrenheit . I’m in USA and looking at my fridge settings right now and the refrig is set at 40’ F and the freezer at -1’ F. Trace heating within the pipe will stop that issue buddy…. 👍🏼👍🏼👌🏼
I have condensate pipe fitted internally and is connected to normal waste water pipe directly to drain below ground level.
👍🏼👍🏼
😎👍🤜
Thanks mate🙌🏼🙌🏼
Why didn’t you run the pipe down in the garage and out at low level? The least pipe outside the better. 👍🏼
Or diagonally outside with no elbows.
No need when using the BoilerTrace….. plus it shows just what it like to install 👍🏼👍🏼
Madness - install the condensate properly in the first place - correct falls, max length and correct type and diameter of insulation. These freeze when its not done properly.
And they freeze when they are installed correctly…. -8 will do that to most things with water in them….
I’ve seen 40mm pipes freeze solid
Snugly done...😉
Haha… very good😉
@@MJTiffPlumbing Have a good 25...x
Thanks mate… and you
How much would you charge this job for
Around £250 plus materials
The solution is to do the job properly following manufacturing instructions, the pipe should never be 22.5 mm should be 32 mm before exiting the wall and lagging outside.
Like it is now 👍🏼👍🏼
@@MJTiffPlumbing just watched the full video, great job as usual Mark.
That wall looks like it needs repointing
🤣👍🏼
Waste of money, just lag the condensate pipe, save yourself £50
That 40000 is sooooooooo close
Yep very very close
Encouraging joe public to remove boiler case....
Did you hear when I said it can go on a fuse spur/plug top……👍🏼👍🏼
My condensate pipe goes into the sink waste in my kitchen
👍🏼👍🏼…. Yep an internal condense pipe is perfect, that won’t freeze up
Why don’t they just fit a small pump in all boilers like they do in a high flow ! problem solved, pump a litre out every time never going to freeze
Without going into politics one of the bigger scams another one egr valves in diesels.
Bit random🤣
But I completely agree….. the big diesel scam
Could you not just install a tundish 😂
Such over kill, like killing an ant with a cannon it’s just a gimmick
Until your boiler stops working because the condense pipe is frozen…😉
