Yes absolutely. Do a UA-cam search "Subaru XV stockton" and you will see a video of an XV driving around on the beach front. They've got plenty of under-body ground clearance, plus the approach & departure angles are notably better than that of the Outback, so that's an advantage too. Just remember to air down your tyres. I'd suggest starting at about 18PSI and airing down to as low as 10PSI if necessary.
@victorwong801 Hey Victor, you'll need more than just AWD/4WD to access the beach. You require sufficient ground clearance too. A Liberty does not have this. An Outback or Forester would have to be a the minimum requirement to access Stockton Beach.
Thanks for sharing. I viewed your video and it looks like your Subie handled the soft stuff well! Yes your beaches over their look remarkably like ours....yet we're a world away here in Aus.
Glad you found my video. Wish UA-cam made it easier to link to a video, at least one on UA-cam. As you say, "worlds apart" but same physics apply to driving in soft sand. Best wishes.
Most people say the Anna Bay entrance is easier, however I've had no problems on the more "difficult" Lavis Lane entry. If its your first time, just walk that initial section of sand first so it doesn't catch you by surprised when you drive on. Keep some momentum, give it some gas, head straight for the beach and you'll be fine. Don't forget to off your traction control!
Nah mate, same as the guy who asked if his Liberty can do it - you need raised ground clearance to be able to access the beach. Low profile tyres are also a massive no-no.
You need to work them hard on soft sand so an oil cooler is always a good choice. But if the sand is hard packed, such as after rain then these cars fly over the sand compared with your typical heavy SUV.
I was going to take my well maintained 1999 Subaru Forester on the beach here in Australia NSW today, my daughter sitting next to me said, no!, I am not going to sit on the beach bogged, lets park the car in the car park and go for a swim, it would be so much more fun.
@taza11659 Yup, some very soft sand out there! We were running 10PSI all round and we still needed to keep it in 2nd on many occasions and rev it hard to keep them going. Haha don't tempt me on the lift kit!
We have a 2012 Forester which we drove on the beach at Cape Hatteras National Seashore, North Carolina, USA last Septmember.. I was hoping that Stockton Beach was accessible to us. I looked it up to find that it was in New South Wales. Don't think we'll be driving there from Florida USA. Our beaches look so similar, yours perhaps wider. Great fun. Search jandbrare for 2012-09-06 to see my video.
i want to drive my 09 stock liberty to the beach via lavis lane or stockton for a long time. but always scare about the ground clearance. However, i think the AWD system and power should be fine. is there any chance?? what if i drive carefully??
Yokohama Geolander AT-S 225-60-17 Best investment you can make. Note; highway tyres are BETTER for sand driving than all-terrains. Little known fact...
I'm looking at buying a subaru outback and looking for something I can drive on beaches in Aus for surf fishing trips. I'm wondering if some year models and better than other for it and if a 4cyl or 6cyl is better?
Sell it and get something else. Life goes on. I bought my car to use it and enjoy it. I don't intend on keeping it for an eternity so a bit of wear and tear is a small price to pay for the enjoyment it brings me.

ozSubie is a second generation or 3rd generation outback a good first car?

Nice work. Hit it today in an outback. Good clearance but couldn't get out of second gear and too nervous on the soft sand.

What psi were you running in the tyres
Gotta get my hands on a Subaru.
What tires are these running? Looking for a decent sand tire for a stock 2006 forester...until I do a lift on it.

torque297 cheers for that, it helps a lot
Would my XV be ok on Stockton Beach?
Have you taken it yet?

Wonder if my 2011 WRX can do this.
Was always curious about WRX doing this. I've got an outback and only started doing beach runs. Would be interesting to see how the WRX goes
