Thanks mate. How much is it getting used? Do you have a vent pipe in the inlet side like a normal system?

      Thanks for watching.
Nah, it's not a closed system. If I re-made it. I would make it a closed system with a vent pipe. It was used every day up until about a week ago. I think I'll need to try remove some of the worm's due to lack of food. We still use it to place compost but I will be monitoring it while it is used less lately.

@@dazthecowboy So are you saying have seal on the flap? And run a vent pipe off the inlet pipe?

@@richardpickersgill3434 I would use a sealed boat hatch for the inspection hatch and run a separate pipe off the side or top of the unit. That way any small amount of air pressurized buy. say a flush, or shower. will push old air in the tank out. rather than air in the pipe.

Do you add woody materials regularly?

Actually no. We do add kitchen scraps on occasion.

How do you get the compost out when you want to use it?

You don't use the matter inside of the unit. As new matter is always being renewed onto of the old stuff. The worms break down the oldest matter very well. What you are left with is a liquid that drains from the unit and feeds a nominated area. This system worked very well for the few years I had it.

@@dazthecowboy At some point doesn't enough matter build up that isn't broken down into liquid? What did you transition to after the vermicomposter?

In a system that size. With two adults. I calculated that it would take between 15 to 20 years of normal use to have the unit filled to a point where you would consider replacing it or emptying it.
I built mine so I could easily drag it out and slide a new container in.
The old one would then sit for an additional length of time to allow the newest material to be broken down further. You could then use it as regular composting matter.

The system performed very well over the year's. Would I build another for my next off-grid cabin? Yes. I was very happy with the system.
