You just discovered the most accomplished child vocalist of all time, Angelina Jordan. She recorded this shortly after her 9th birthday. Please read the bio I compiled for my all time favorite musical artist. Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman. Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on UA-cam. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was considered a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran. Angelina speaks Norwegian, Farsi, English and has sung a song in Japanese. Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Her teachers were smart enough to not attempt to change what she was doing vocally. Angelina plays the piano and guitar and also paints. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage. *Why Angelina always performs barefoot* At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true. Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. Angelina, at age 6 and 7, did record a few songs in a recording studio at her school, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 7 year old. At age 7, Angelina’s audition on Norway’s Got Talent, was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried. Angelina had turned 8 years old for her next performance on NGT, covering Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition and was not performed in front of an audience. In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them. In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists. I love this performance so much. As they say AJ don't play. Well perhaps this is what she does when she does play and we get the most stunning, amazing performance of a 9 yr old of this Jazz standard ever created. I believe it is going to go down in Jazz & Music history as the best ever for this age and in my opinion the best rendition of this song ever created Screamin Jay included. It will be revisited for Generations and will remain relevant for Generations to come. Any one discovers this performance for the first time today or a 100 years from today are going to be as amazed and astounded as everybody has been to this point. Think of the children who will be inspired by this one performance in the decades to come. This is an Iconic performance and will alway be Iconic. Angelina has on her own from early on at 6 or 7 yrs old reintroduced what I believe will be a whole new Jazz Era and redefined by this young phenom and prodigy. That is astounding! This was done about 2 months after her 9th birthday Bohemian Rhapsody was done when she was 13 she entered Norway's got talent at age 7 had a birthday during the contest and was 8 years old when she won watch her singing I who have nothing at 6 years old she sounded like a good adult singer even then. At 12 she recorded her first album "IT'S MAGIC", a tribute to jazz standards and a couple of her original songs that still gets plenty of play. Also at 12, she was asked by Quincy Jones to open his 85th birthday concert at the 02 Arena in London performing the arrangement of FLY ME TO THE MOON that he did for Frank Sinatra. Angelina is currently 16 years old, as of January 10th. The AGT The Champions competition is a show where only previous winners in their respective countires can participate. I have never heard her speak Japanese, but she has sung in that language. There's a good chance she can speak some Swedish, but I have never heard her speak it. Regarding the instruments she is able to play, I have seen her play piano and guitar but not other two -- Flute and violin, which have been commented upon frequently. Living close to the Arctic Cirkle means alot of in between season work and iam singing in the shower. Speaking 2 languages. But really, my portofolio look emty compared to Angelinas. And Yes, her father is Swedish and most kids/adults in Norway has been watching Swedish TV. So there is more Norwegians that understand 100% Swedish. Than the other way around. Angelina wrote an incredibly emotional song called "Million Miles" in memory of her beloved grandfather who had just passed away (at that time). She was 13/14 years old. She recorded it later as her first single for her new label, Republic Records. Do a reaction to the black and white live studio version. It is one of three companion videos. The others are the actual official Republic video music release and a lyrics version. I highly recommend doing a reaction to the lyrics version second. It is the same recording as the official version but has graphics done by her grandmother, a noteworthy Iranian artist. With these videos, she has produced a quite stunning beginning of her career with Republic. Also, the pianist in the live studio video is a very high up Republic executive. Angelina commented that when she was in the studio doing the song she cried throughout the session. You can hear and see the pain she feels for her loss when you watch the live studio set. She said she wanted the song to be for anyone that had such a loss. With consideration to that background to her song, you will get as emotional as she was when she recorded it. She has this magical vocal power that draws you into this other dimension. She has always put her soul and emotions into her works. This song was my intro to Angelina. Half way through I had to stop and regroup, let my senses settle between the sounds of her voice, the innocence of a small girl and more. There are children who sing well, some amaze us with their qualities, certainly not at 8/9 years old and with this talent, this maturity, this timing, so after listening to this, you can already imagine what you have encountered. Both very good. Another artist with an incredible voice is Diana Ankudinova, and since you like old classics, look for the "Can't help falling in love" Elvis cover. Diana is also young and have a very unique and incredible voice.
Angelina was 9 years and 2 months old when she performed this song. It is her tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, who wrote and performed the song in 1956. She based her arrangement on his original performance, although she discarded all the theatrics and allowed her voice and body language to tell the story. The song has been covered by many singers over the years, but to my knowledge, Angelina is the only one who has sung in the same style as the original. Things I found particularly worthy of note in this video are (a) Angelina finishing writing last minute changes she wanted and handing them to the Music Director, who smiled. (b) A brief glimpse of Mery Zamani, Angelina's maternal grandmother, a well known and respected Iranian Artist and poet who was also a child prodigy. Angelina has been referred to as the "Queen of Jazz", "The Barefoot Princess", "The girl with a thousand voices". All of them are true, but I prefer the nickname I gave her after listening to about six of her performances. For me, she is "The Chameleon of Song", for as a chameleon is able to change its colour to match its surroundings, so Angelina is able to change the "colour" of her voice to accurately match the needs of the song to reveal the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Even more remarkable is her innate ability to communicate those same emotions to her listeners.

While his vocals were REALLY good, his dancing and stage performance was a force (along w/his bros) What needs to be noted is world famous and renowned music producer Quincy Jones auditioned Angelina at 12 yrs old, he called her "the most talented singer he's heard since MJ" ... BTW, he hired her to OPEN his 85th birthday bash singing the classic Fly Me to the Moon... She's mastered around 4-5 languages and about as many instruments...she is a musical prodigy/young genius... Try the O'keef Music Foundation. A music academy from Ohio that will blow you away. They do a cover of Tools 46 and 2 that is awesome. They are kids but you'd never believe it if you didn't see it.
If you are looking for another artist in addition to Angelina, I would highly recommend Eva Cassidy. She was a jazz blues and folk singer and guitarist in the 80s and 90s. Eva tragically passed away from cancer in 1996 at the age of only 33. She was not well known before her death but became a legend after and sold over 10 million albums since! She has quite a few performances on her UA-cam site, the most famous being her rendition of over the Rainbow which is considered one of the finest ever recorded. Eva's voice like angelina's, was very special indeed. Eva also was known for Sting's Fields of Gold and ironically Angelina recently recorded the same song. There is a mashup Duo of the two of them singing Fields of Gold together that is stellar. I would react to that one after doing over the rainbow by Eva. It's not strange you mentioned Dimash because even though their music is a million miles apart they are two of the most humble, kind, caring and loving people you will ever find in this crazy world of ours. I'm glad you are aware of some basic facts about her. Wait till you find out why she sings barefoot! You can go in two different directions, Norway's Got Talent (entered at 7 yrs old) or AGT/The Champions (recorded when she was 13). One phase of her musical growth deserves special attention. When she turned 10 she stepped it up a couple of notches and her video's can be classified as truly amazing. One, in particular, I strongly suggest you take a look at: Angelina singing 'My Funny Valentine' at 10 yrs old sitting in a chair at home.

Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman.
Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on UA-cam. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was considered a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran.
Angelina speaks Norwegian, Farsi, English and has sung a song in Japanese.
Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Her teachers were smart enough to not attempt to change what she was doing vocally. Angelina plays the piano and guitar and also paints. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage.

At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes.
Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true.
Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East.
Angelina, at age 6 and 7, did record a few songs in a recording studio at her school, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 7 year old.
At age 7, Angelina’s audition on Norway’s Got Talent, was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried.
Angelina had turned 8 years old for her next performance on NGT, covering Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition and was not performed in front of an audience.
In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them.
In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists.
Angelina had become a star in her native Norway and her videos on UA-cam went viral. She gave a few concerts during the summer of 2014 while 8 years old.
In December 2014, Angelina realized a life-long desire to sing at the Save the Children's Peace Prize Celebration which is part of the Noble Peace Prize celebration.
Angelina’s family took her to United States, Brazil, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Russia, South Korea, Singapore among other corners of Earth, to perform for heads of state and to help raise money for charity. All before Angelina turned 14.

Her family agreed to a contract with Republic Records in August 2020. Republic Records declared Angelina Jordan their highest priority new artist. Reportedly her family requested Republic to allow her as normal a childhood as possible and therefore have yet to fully promote her.
In November 2020, Angelina released “Million Miles” which she wrote after the passing of her beloved maternal grandfather. She dedicated the song to anyone who has ever lost a loved one.
Angelina had previously released, 3 other original songs: “What is Life”, “Oslo” and “Shield”
In April 2021, her original “7th Heaven” was released. A jazzy, danceable, inspiring song.
Angelina has posted numerous short performances on Tik Tok and Instagram.
Angelina has concerts scheduled in Norway in July 2022.
Personally, Angelina as a great human being and her music came into my life when I needed it most. Her music has improved the quality of my life more than I can express. I love this performance so much. As they say AJ don't play. Well perhaps this is what she does when she does play and we get the most stunning, amazing performance of a 9 yr old of this Jazz standard ever created. I believe it is going to go down in Jazz & Music history as the best ever for this age and in my opinion the best rendition of this song ever created Screamin Jay included. It will be revisited for Generations and will remain relevant for Generations to come. Any one discovers this performance for the first time today or a 100 years from today are going to be as amazed and astounded as everybody has been to this point. Think of the children who will be inspired by this one performance in the decades to come. This is an Iconic performance and will alway be Iconic. Angelina has on her own from early on at 6 or 7 yrs old reintroduced what I believe will be a whole new Jazz Era and redefined by this young phenom and prodigy. That is astounding! If you'd like to see her low range watch your singing how Great thou art. Angelina Jordan is sometimes called the girl with a thousand voices the barefoot angel and the boss apparently the studio musicians at this performance are the ones that gave her the moniker the boss.

Appeared on the American TV show The View, performed at the Nobel Peace Prize concert, sung before world leaders, and made a guest appearance on Netflix's "Lilyhammer" acting as a nightclub singer and performing "I'M A FOOL TO WANT YOU" at the request of Stevie Van Zandt (guitarist for Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band). At 9 wrote a book titled "Between Two Hearts" based on her diary from age 6 about why she only performs barefoot, and by 10 she opened for Nora Jones in Seoul Korea in front of 40,000 fans and made a guest appearance on stage with world famous Alan Walker streamed live to his millions of fans.
At 12 she recorded her first album "IT'S MAGIC", a tribute to jazz standards and a couple of her original songs that still gets plenty of play. Also at 12, she was asked by Quincy Jones to open his 85th birthday concert at the 02 Arena in London performing the arrangement of FLY ME TO THE MOON that he did for Frank Sinatra. At 13 she went viral for the 2nd time singing her incredible rendition of Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody which got a big shout out from Queen "WOW, what a rendition!". At 14 signed with Republic records (UMG) as a "high priority" artist. Released 2 originals with them since signing and she expected to released her first album this year. She had just turned 9 in this one, and she was still 13 when she performed "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" on America's Got Talent The Champions in 2020. Angelina is currently 16 years old, as of January 10th. The AGT The Champions competition is a show where only previous winners in their respective countires can participate. They had tried to get her on for years, before she finally agreed on the premise that she wouldn't have to sign up with Simon Cowell if she won 🙂

On AGT-C season 2 Angie & her grandma Mery made her outfit from silkscreen patterns of her grandma's art work when she was 13 back in Norway. They makes several of her other outfits for shows & concerts too. She also paints great, plays 5 instruments & speaks & sings 4+ languages, English being her 3rd. Angie turned 16 on 1-10-22. Angie is a very kind, giving, loving, respectful, humble & a big hearted Christian girl. She always sings barefoot when performing & she wrote a book about it at 9 called “Between Two Hearts” & she

@@jonathanfielding7387 What am I missing? I have heard her speak Norwegian and English and have been told by a fan who knows her grandmother, Mery Zamani, that Angelina speaks Farsi (Persian). I have never heard her speak Japanese, but she has sung in that language. There's a good chance she can speak some Swedish, but I have never heard her speak it. If you know a link where I can hear her speak Swedish, please post it. Regarding the instruments she is able to play, I have seen her play piano and guitar but not other two -- Flute and violin, which have been commented upon frequently. What are the other two to which you refer, please?

Living close to the Arctic Cirkle means alot of in between season work and iam singing in the shower. Speaking 2 languages. But really, my portofolio look emty compared to Angelinas. And Yes, her father is Swedish and most kids/adults in Norway has been watching Swedish TV. So there is more Norwegians that understand 100% Swedish. Than the other way around. So its more us in Sweden having problems with the Norwegian language.

Angelina wrote an incredibly emotional song called "Million Miles" in memory of her beloved grandfather who had just passed away (at that time). She was 13/14 years old. She recorded it later as her first single for her new label, Republic Records.
Do a reaction to the black and white live studio version. It is one of three companion videos. The others are the actual official Republic video music release and a lyrics version. I highly recommend doing a reaction to the lyrics version second. It is the same recording as the official version but has graphics done by her grandmother, a noteworthy Iranian artist. With these videos, she has produced a quite stunning beginning of her career with Republic. Also, the pianist in the live studio video is a very high up Republic executive.
Angelina commented that when she was in the studio doing the song she cried throughout the session. You can hear and see the pain she feels for her loss when you watch the live studio set. She said she wanted the song to be for anyone that had such a loss. With consideration to that background to her song, you will get as emotional as she was when she recorded it. She has this magical vocal power that draws you into this other dimension.
She has always put her soul and emotions into her works. She arranges most all her music, as she has been doing since she began performing over the past ten plus years.

This song was my intro to Angelina. Half way through I had to stop and regroup, let my senses settle between the sounds of her voice, the innocence of a small girl and more. Norwegian born Angelina began singing at the age of one and a half, and by age three was listening to jazz and classics legends on repeat. Influences include Billie Holliday, Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James, Diana Washington, Adele, Frank Sinatra, Amy Winehouse, Lana del Rey, and many more. Her grandmother was her greatest influence, but Angelina chose her own path. Her first studio performance was at age 7, singing I Who Have Nothing. Why does Angelina sing barefoot?
When she was 6 years old, she was in the Middle East with her mom and grandmother and they came across a young orphan girl with no shoes and scarred feet. Angelina gave the girl her own shoes and has forever performed barefoot as a reminder of all those less fortunate. At age 9 she wrote a book about this experience, Between two Hearts, becoming the youngest ever published author in Norway. She also has helped raise millions for children's charities. She is a special individual, and one you cannot follow without developing an emotional bond.

Its good to start with this though, this early in her years, then you could go to the Bohemian Rapsody from the AGT Champions and maybe Yellow Brick Road also from AGTC. Both very good.
Another artist with an incredible voice is Diana Ankudinova, and since you like old classics, look for the "Can't help falling in love" Elvis cover. Diana is also young and have a very unique and incredible voice.

Angelina was 9 years and 2 months old when she performed this song. It is her tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, who wrote and performed the song in 1956. She based her arrangement on his original performance, although she discarded all the theatrics and allowed her voice and body language to tell the story. The song has been covered by many singers over the years, but to my knowledge, Angelina is the only one who has sung in the same style as the original.
Things I found particularly worthy of note in this video are
(a) Angelina finishing writing last minute changes she wanted and handing them to the Music Director, who smiled.
(b) A brief glimpse of Mery Zamani, Angelina's maternal grandmother, a well known and respected Iranian Artist and poet who was also a child prodigy. She was the person who recognised Angelina's talent at an early age and exposed her to all the old time jazz singers.
(c) The candle with an image of Screamin' Jay Hawkins on it.
(d) The smile on the face of the Bass player.
(e) How she rose on to her toes on the last occasion she sang "...because you're mine"
(f) The fact she occasionally refers to her written notes on the music stand
(g) The instant transformation from "performance" mode to that of a pensive child, possibly wondering whether she could have done better. I comment on the "pensive" child because Angelina has an incredible work ethic and seeks to perform every song in a way she considers will bring out all the emotions within the lyrics and melody.
Angelina has been referred to as the "Queen of Jazz", "The Barefoot Princess", "The girl with a thousand voices". All of them are true, but I prefer the nickname I gave her after listening to about six of her performances. For me, she is "The Chameleon of Song", for as a chameleon is able to change its colour to match its surroundings, so Angelina is able to change the "colour" of her voice to accurately match the needs of the song to reveal the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Even more remarkable is her innate ability to communicate those same emotions to her listeners.

You need to check her cover of Etta James' "I'd rather go blind". You won't be deceived. Her interpretation though short is one of the best I have ever heard. The sound quality is good but could be better. The story is that she had just received the mike as a birthday present and decided to test it recording this song. She actually hold the mike the wrong way around on this recording.

While his vocals were REALLY good, his dancing and stage performance was a force (along w/his bros) What needs to be noted is world famous and renowned music producer Quincy Jones auditioned Angelina at 12 yrs old, he called her "the most talented singer he's heard since MJ" ... BTW, he hired her to OPEN his 85th birthday bash singing the classic Fly Me to the Moon... She's mastered around 4-5 languages and about as many instruments...she is a musical prodigy/young genius... If she put a spell on you.. you are toast, my Friend and join the millions of her fans. I'll just welcome you to the club now... Try the O'keef Music Foundation. A music academy from Ohio that will blow you away. They do a cover of Tools 46 and 2 that is awesome. They are kids but you'd never believe it if you didn't see it.

If you are looking for another artist in addition to Angelina, I would highly recommend Eva Cassidy. She was a jazz blues and folk singer and guitarist in the 80s and 90s. Eva tragically passed away from cancer in 1996 at the age of only 33. She was not well known before her death but became a legend after and sold over 10 million albums since! She has quite a few performances on her UA-cam site, the most famous being her rendition of over the Rainbow which is considered one of the finest ever recorded. Eva's voice like angelina's, was very special indeed. Eva also was known for Sting's Fields of Gold and ironically Angelina recently recorded the same song. There is a mashup Duo of the two of them singing Fields of Gold together that is stellar. I would react to that one after doing over the rainbow by Eva.
