  • The multifunctional electronic syringe module by DataPhysics Instruments enables a multitude of drop shape analysis experiments. The syringe module can use both disposable syringes and reusable glass syringes with a wide variety of corresponding needles. With an optional nanoliter dosing valve for extremely small drops, the application range can be further extended.
The electronic syringe module can be controlled manually using the attached buttons or with the TP 50 control panel. Due to the high precision drive of the syringe module the dosing volume and dosing rate can be precisely controlled within the software of the optical drop shape analysis system.
The syringe module can be used to measure static contact angles using the sessile drop method and with the optional nanoliter dosing valve even small structures can be analyzed. Since the electronic syringe module can reverse the dosing process, dynamic contact angle measurements of advancing and receding contact angles are possible by increasing and decreasing the volume of a sessile drop. With a curved upwards bending needle sessile drop and captive bubble experiments inside an outer liquid phase are possible. Using the pendant drop method, surface tension and interfacial tension can be measured and by sinusoidally increasing and decreasing the drop volume, viscoelastic parameters can be determined.
In conclusion the multifunctional electronic syringe module covers virtually all imaginable liquid dosing needs for optical drop shape analysis.
