Rebecca Ericson we are getting a pwd in a few weeks and we have a lot of livestock! I think it depends how you raise it but we know people who have had them and they are the sweetest most gentle dogs! A bit mischievous but that's every dog right?😂 anyway hope this helped!!
Ok, thanks! I was looking at the breed 14 years ago and ended up with a German shepherd, at the time I didn't think they were a good fit. I enjoy the training process so that shouldn't bother me too much, of course maybe I enjoyed it because she was smart and a quick learner! I'll keep looking into the breed more, finding a breeder isn't easy.
You can also have a portuguese mastiff they are very big ,wonderful with kids but they are agressive with strangers they are super super super good guard dogs
Definitely I had a PWD he was amazing two kids under the age of 7 and 2 cats with two other dogs. Portuguese water dogs can be aggressive to strangers, they can also be very protective to kids. Once we had a neighbor that had a kid with autism. He would hop the fence and go into our pool but his father came to get him but Rocco my pwd tried to attack his dad.
my pwd is in training to become an assistance dog! hes great with everyone, even strangers and we have never had a problem with aggression. he likes the cats but is a bit too playful with them. he is a bit mouthy at the moment and loves other dogs when we are out so we are training him to ignore them but once they are focused on something they will try their best to do it! hes fearless and so calm! young children press their faces on his face and he will just lick! honestly the most loyal and amazing type of dog we have ever had! couldn't be more proud of my boy!
