@@wunderkind56 oh ok not too bad then. Mine just got the notification and going to take it in on Tuesday. It’s barely going to be a month since I got the car but mine is a 2020
the chevy dealer in Columbus Kansas did mine. Overnight job. Got me a loaner. I live 82 miles from them but they are doing several and if you live somewhat close by, call them. Jim Hatfield Chevy. Dealership looks like it was built in 1960 but hey, they like doing this job. Obviously they are making money!
On the last video I was disaponted but on this one I'm happy to see more he must be getting pretty good at it now I would bet he like this better that replacing a set of head gasket on a Duramax or a transmission .
Let me also thank you for this video. I’m getting the battery replaced on my 2017 B. olt next Tuesday in California. They will have the car not quite two days and GM will give me a a loaner.
BTW, the dealer service adviser did not give me any oral instructions or hand out any paper explaining how to "condition the battery. I guess I am supposed to drain it down and charge full a couple times soon rather than keep topping it off at the beginning. Does anyone know if Chevy has any such instructions?
@@igenr8 I'm not an owner, yet. I'm researching whether or not I should purchase a 2017 with the battery replaced. And so far it is looking like a yes for me.
I’d like to purchase one of the Chevy buy backs around December of this year! I live in Georgia! Where can I look and find one with a replaced battery?
Does anyone know if the GM battery recall is still ongoing in 2024 for the 2017 to 2019 models? I called one Chevy dealership and they said they did not know if 2017 models were still eligible? (does this make any sense? for them to be saying this in January of 2024?)
Does anyone know if the battery covers my Bolt if my I have more than 100K on it? I currently have 99,409, wondering if I have to park it until the battery arrives at the dealer?!?
@@tichuang On UA-cam, there is a professor in a wheel chair that shows every component disassembled of a Chevy Bolt. On that particular battery, it looks like modules would be fairly easy to replace. On a Tesla, it looks like a nightmare. Obviously, since the recall on the Chevy Bolt involves 143,000 vehicles, time would be a definite factor. Many years from now, on an individual basis, it might be much cheaper to replace only what's needed.
@@coniacman I have watched that video. He makes it look easy, sure, but he's a professor, not a regular mechanic. He knows every part, its design, its function, etc., not only of the battery but the entire car. As you've already mentioned, yes, there is the sheer volume of batteries that would make such surgical operations highly inefficient.
The diagnostics software they're using when Bolt owners bring their car in for service is supposed to detect faults in individual modules. If a fault is found at the module level, they bump you to the front of the queue for an entire pack replacement like all Bolts will eventually get. Also a 2020 Bolt owner here btw.
Some trolls claim dealers can only do 2 a month, so nice to see videos showing how quick it is.
Sure, some dealers only get two batteries a month. My big city dealer got stacks of them. Had my 2017 done months ago and the range increase is nice!
Interesting - thanks for sharing.
Great idea to tie down the vehicle to the lift arms to compensate for the “weight loss” during the swap 👍🏻
Love this video, He was so good at answering your questions.
Had my 2019 done in November. Loving the extra range.
Can you charge it to full now?
@@DeeSnutts yes
How long did it take for you to get the car back?
I believe I left the car with the shop for a couple of days.

So that's how they fixed my Bolt. Fascinating stuff!
Thanks for the in depth video--inquiring minds want to know!
Nice work here indeed. To be granted such up close access is quite an accomplishment.
just bought one today so this is great to see what is involved in changing the battery, they tell me the one i purchased just had it done.
This was great! Really cool to see the process.

Very interesting video...thanks.
How much does it cost for a new ev battery ? For 65kwh
Sadly my 2021 bolt EV is still waiting for the battery replacement :(

Is so simple that is ridiculous, hope everyone build batteries like this, simple and easy to replace, just like a pallet to be handle by any forklift.
wer do u get that jack to remove the batteries
How much it cost battery and labor for 2020 bolt ? Please let me know
$10k for battery and $1500 to install. May vary. I can get a used one for $7k and install it myself and sell the used one for parts.
This is sweet. Very great video on doing the process. Is it possible to change the idle time on the bolt ev for 15hours?? Is that possible to do??
So, why did it take them a full day to replace the battery on my Bolt?
My Replacement Battery Sticker shows N2.2 Module but doesn’t say 64kWh or 66kWh. 2017 Chevy Bolt

All Bolts (up to a certain cutoff in the 22 model) get a new battery no matter how many miles.
I have a 2020 Bolt. I'm under the impression that only the modules get replaced....NOT the entire battery.
GM is only doing pack replacements. Replacing modules is very time consuming.
way easier (and less costly) to drop the entire battery and replace it than it is to open up the battery and replace an individual module...

The battery is 25% of the vehicle weight from what I can tell
30%
My battery swap was refurbished , not new. GM playing dirty as usual.
