- In today’s video we build the new monster 380! Unfortunately we crashed the last one and it was a total loss so I was able to track one down and build a better, more powerful and improved version! Hopefully we can get the maiden flight in soon!

very nice. hobe the canopy will not rub on the motor because of high speed and air torbulances. would be sad if the motor gets scratches.
I actually ended up laying carbon fiber on the inside of the canopy so there is no possible way it can get distorted or move from air pressure. It is extremely strong and rigid, so no worries about it Hitting the motor now.

Hey Jeff do you think the MKS DS95 servos are strong enough (safe) to use on 420mm blade helis?
@@elitecol69 definitely! MKS makes fantastic servos but if you want stronger newer servos go with the Theta micro servos.
Jeff seems like a amazingly powerful build with the motor extending beyond the canopy, great idea of putting the motor in a sandwich 🥪 bag when cutting the shaft to keep the magnets 🧲 from attracting the ferrous dust. 👍🏻 Adding the frame stiffener’s = awesomeness ! Honest question 🙋♂️ what “C” number discharge rate batteries are required for a powerful helicopter 🚁 ? , it takes at least 120c with 10 gauge wires to enable the BJ42 RC boat to “Be all it can be” 😊
So C rating is a funny thing lol most companies are full of crap. Your normal wiper battery is anywhere from 30 to 50 C even if they say 120c on them. I’ve tested a TON of battery’s. I found all of your cheaper packs are all really 20c packs. Your more expensive packs are around 50c. This Heli will be flown on 8s 1550mAh packs I made that claim 120c. Amps won’t be to bad on this model. Around 120-150 amps. But a Heli like the comets pull around 350-400 amps so they need Quality batteries! I found a set from Germany that are True 70c (they say 120c) and handle the 400 amps with no problem.
Question. Why not a 3 blade setup for speed heli? Head durability?
@@mikeobryan8368 because of drag. Two bladed head are the best for speed. Technically one bladed head would be better but never been done so probably not lol but one bladed helis have been done.
Jeff you really do some nice work . I have the 380 Buddy. Not sure what the difference is from the 380 and the 380 buddy .
Thank you! I greatly appreciate that. I try to build every helicopter to the best of my abilities and make them a showpiece with quality work. The buddy was a newer design. Different canopy/boom and frame layout.
Looking at the specs for that motor it only says up to 22.2V, or maybe I am missing something, is there a certain thing you have to do to make sure the motor isn't getting to hot or is the motor just fine that way?

Okay Jeff. 3rd Heli. I have a Goosky S2 and Align TREX 470. Mostly sport flying currently. Would you go with the SAB Raw or the Tron Orion for my 3rd Heli and why.
@@Maniac96744 great question! So both are great models. I’m actually doing a video on them. But, you can’t go wrong either way. I really really like the Tron Orion. My next video explains a small issue I had with the head dampeners wearing out after 20-30 flights and I went to the shore 90 and much better. But SAB builds much easier! Very simple and quick. Tron take a little longer and more steps. SAB is hands down the best quality heli on the market with Tron right behind it. It’s really up to you on which one you like. The RAW 580 is still my favorite heli ever made but the Orion is right there with it. Power to weight (6s) the Orion takes it.

Why do they not put a flat spot at least on this motor? I have two of them, and besides this one I've never had to put a flat spot on a motor 😂. I understand shaft length but not having a flat spot is a weird choice
Because it’s a universal shaft they do not put flat spots on universal shaft motors.
No "Aero Concerns" with the canopy?
Not really, of course, enclosed would be better in more aerodynamic, but the loss of aerodynamic I’m gonna make up for and cooling to the motor, especially under this power level, so I would much rather have the motor happier and lose a little bit of aerodynamic.

@@FletchyDog my goal is 150mph. 131mph is the fastest 380/420 so far. I’ve done 130mph with the V1. But I don’t want to beat the record by a little lol so it has the power to go 150mph but if the belt and OWB will hold it is another story.
