I've watched season 1 & most definitely recommend watching it. If not for the history, the actions depicted alone are exciting & clever. Who Dares Wins. 🏆
When I was learning parachute training in the Australian “territorial” Military, I met some ex special forces men, they seemed quite normal (not like Rambo) what set them apart was their ability to effectively carry out incredibly intense difficult missions/tasks. Jumping out of a plane was a walk in the park for them some had done 2000 plus jumps.
My late dad was an armourer for the 2nd SAS. He signed up in Algiers while waiting attachment to a regiment which he never got to. Ended up on a train to the base near Philippeville. Had some interesting stories looking after guns, a trip to an aborted submarine landing on Crete, customising Jeeps, being in a 12 man stick where he and another not jumping saved their lives, being under a bridge being peed on by German soldiers, learning to parachute roll off the backs of lorries among other things which won't be mentioned here. Left him with life long PTSD so you didn't annoy him if you could help it.
My uncle reg seakings who was in the REG with David sterling and paddy and jock Lewis and paddy!! Can't w8t 4the next season to come out!! 😊😊AB ALL THE WAY BROTHER from a oldswet my self an ex'service AB ex'2para vet!! 😊❤
During WW2 Churchill encouraged the formation of special forces units the SAS was one of these units, other units were usually called Commandos. In WW2 David Niven and Christopher Lee (actors) were commandos so was Robert Maxwell (notorious business tycoon).
The real SAS were the LRDG which did everything the SAS did and indeed the SAS couldn't have operated without the LRDG's help. LRDG did recce, raids and training partisans in the Balkans. About time Bagnold's desert exploration and setting up the LRDG were more widely recognised.
They were heros, and pioner in form of special forces, but today SAS lev og the pass, and they fitness gays, and some are drukdealers. And were are Anders Lassen end this stories..?
I know the TV series takes artistic licence to the limit but I'm just glad that Paddy Mayne and the rest of the "originals" are finally getting some widespread recognition. If it points people to the story beyond David Stirling's rather self serving account then all the better in my opinion.
@@lesliedrysdale2434 Obviously the BBC stupidity derives from the mangling of the McIntyre book; ergo my comment. There are many other writers to read.
You’re all missing the point that Ben MacIntyre is an executive producer of the series & has had input into it…he’s happy with it so you all need to STFU…
My Grandfather was number 1 squadron 2nd SAS Billy Lavill
If that is true, you're luck and honoured to be related
Dont forget those who showed them the way .The LRDG.
My grandfather was G patrol LRDG and he taxied the SAS to there first missions aswel as showing them how to survive the desert.
@@H4CK61 At least you spelt 'desert' right.
Sorry, I couldn't help it. Thank you to the LRDG and your relation. 👍
He also showed them how to eat dessert too. 🍨 😂🤣😂
Fun fact: To this day, Brazilian Army LR units use the callsign "Scorpion" bc the LRDG
Rest in Peace Mike Sadler last of the originals and a member of the LRDG

Wise up, it was complete woke nonsense.
Trying to paint Paddy Maine as gay is an unforgivable insult.

Australia doesn't have "Territorials". That's a British thing.
I’m surprised Biggs sounds so sophisticated! Seekings in the show is a pretty punk-ish fellow! Much love! This series is seriously good.

Gentlemen, you had my curiosity.
Now you have my attention.
This sounds just like what i like to watch
Best tv shows ever , can't wait to see season 2 ...but as a Canadian , when will it be ?
12th January
1st of January 2025 in the UK
January 2025 is good enough for me, I'll find the exact date out for myself. 😀
New year's day bbc iPlayer

Looks epic! Will give it a watch
The long Range Desert Group !
Fascinating stuff. Just a minor pedantic point though. In British English sloth rhymes with oath whereas in American English it rhymes with moth.
Nice series
Dudley Clarke was a very clever man, there's not nearly enough said about him.

Popski did a bit, too.
Worth reading his biography, although it might not all be totally true.
@@TheManFrayBentos my dad talked about Popski and a Scots private army, who's name I don't remember.
And Stephen Hastings later to become Sir Stephen Hastings MP
Strange times we live in, these heroes would be considered extreme far right today.

Was no NI in 1915. Pretty basic fact for bbc to miss
Don’t you reckon the guy who plays David sterling looks a bit like Matt smith?
Em matéria de tropas e missões especiais o Brasil tem um currículo invejável.

The BBC has ruined Ben McIntyres book. Please do not watch this rubbish; read the book in its stead.
