Totally agree with you in terms of ending sounds, many vietnamese english speakers failed to do that at some points. But with the example "I want to" I think there should be a liaison rule to consider.
With words that end with a consonant, and the following words that also start with the same consonant, we blend them.
In this case, "want" ends with "t", and "to" starts with "t", so one of the "t" will be omitted. So in a sentence, "I want to" should be pronounced "I wantə", rather than "I want ta to".
Same applied for "big game", "black coffee", "good day", list goes on.
