Thank you. THANK you. I’m 60. Ive been trying to play slide since I was in my teens. ONLY through this video have I learned to GLIDE the slide, not PRESS. Now I can play slide, on my Epiphone Paulie, without adjusting the height of my strings, and without pulling out the old acoustic with the strings set high and in an open tuning. I can’t tell you…THANK YOU!!!
Watching this, once more I'm reminded that Angela Petrilli's masterclass musicianship could only be outranked by her superb ability to 'share information', Quality and qualification seem to become one.(efficiently) through this brilliant "information sharer'! You're good at this, Ted Furlo
These are all great tips. The only thing I would add is that it helps to have heavier strings (11s or higher) and a medium-high action. Heavier strings have higher tension. That, combined with a higher action, helps prevent the slide from rattling on the frets. Playing slide takes finding the right balance between a loose wrist and tight strings. Once you've found the balance that works best for you, you're halfway there.
Thank you, this was the best guide that I've seen, very thurough, now to get the brass, had a glass one years ago but lost in the shuffle, thanks again.
Thank-you Angela, an excellent lesson presentation! I appreciate your subtle detail and friendly approach to teaching, it really helped me get started.
Best advice to anyone learning slide. #1, listen to what Angela has said #2, try a compressor or a little bit of gain and/or reverb #3, Practice, Practice, Practice, and then Practice some more Like most things with guitar, you're not gonna be good starting out, the only difference between a good slide player and yourself is hours of practice. Just do it
I would like to know when you are using the slide and your pic or thumb which strings are you hitting to make the cords I think you were hitting from the top to the bottom you are hitting the third-string down to the next two strings or is it the second string down to the next two strings and is this where the standard strumming comes from when you play slide I'm trying to hit all the strings is this incorrect.I I enjoyed your lesson immensely. What you explained made it much more clearer to me than others I have watched on videos. Thank you
Mmmmm, thank you for the video! For you information… the thumb is anatomically the first finger, so all of the others are in order: second (index), third (middle), fourth (ring), and fifth (pinky).
I'm newer to guitar. What are the sound differences to the different slide materials? Why do you prefer brass? Thanks for your lessons and song instruction.
Forgive me for asking, but I'm new to guitar though I know slide guitar is the direction I'm aiming.... And this may sound stupid, but I use tuning EADGBE and am learning chords there. How do you know the chords, which finger and where to press when you change the tuning? I can figure it out hopefully once my brain wraps around the idea of it.
I'm old enough to have seen Duane Allman play three times before he passed......glass slide baby all the way.....no pick.....use your fingers.... BTW did Lemming GOTD guy apply for that job yet at Guitar Center on Pico.......
I think it's the easiest to use with open strings, which help when you are moving the slide around. Any open tuning works and is easier when you are starting, but Open G only changes 3 strings so you have 3 strings from standard tuning next to eachother for home base
This is a great lesson about some serious subtleties that I needed insight on. Thank you, Angela for giving some serious game.
Loved this. A whole series on slide would be really cool.
Angela, I hope as I'm sure many others are hoping you will do more of the slide rundowns. Please!

Finally. . . you answered so many questions I had about this technique! Thank you!

I gave up on learning slide a few years ago. Thanks to your lesson , I’m gonna give it another try. Thanks for your lessons Angela
I've been thinking about exploring slide. This is a great segue into that realm. Thanks.
That was a sweet introduction thank you very much. I'm picking it up slowly. So I can die easy.
please do a slide song on the riff rundown, thank you.
Well done!
Thank you, that was helpful! Didn't know about not pressing of the slide

Just do it
Try it with a phaser and slapback.

Great lesson
Nice one mate, welcome to Auckland New Zealand
Your the first person to say don’t press, wow eye opening.
I just discovered this too
Especially on electric
First time I have heard not to press on the slide
Very well done. :)
Hello Angela from Oporto, north of Portugal.
Great video, 👍
Nice tips.💓
I have been wanting this lesson since learning to play America sister goldens hair

For standard guitar tab notation, Angela's finger numbers are correct. Anatomically it's a different story.
respectfully, she is so beautiful. The instructor is very knowledgeable too.
Any suggestions on thickness and size of brass slide tube?
So I can expect an awesome video on Traveling Riverside Blues this weekend?
Do one in Standard tuning if you have time thanks !!

Thanks for your lessons and song instruction.
Thank you so much
Thank you Time to re-tune my Epiphone!
Curious - Have you tested your distortion pedal & bass simultaneously? Apologies for the noob question.

Love Duane, but Lowell George played with a 11/16 deep socket wrench, to each their own!
👍
Great lesson Angelina. Now I'm going to go out drink myself a bottle of wine and then make a bottleneck. Cheers.

How do you pick the size of the slide?
Ask her if size matters.
I learned slide in standard tuning. G tuning limits what can be played. IMO.
Minor chords?
Open G tuning, gothca but why? Tradition?
I think it's the easiest to use with open strings, which help when you are moving the slide around. Any open tuning works and is easier when you are starting, but Open G only changes 3 strings so you have 3 strings from standard tuning next to eachother for home base
No one has commented on just how cute she is.
.....I think I could watch you read the phone book.
