I find it more efficient to place sponges below me and then breaking them. That way I dont have to swim back up or be bouncing in the water.

In addition to what he said .. create a sand duper with end .. and have a bed near the location u want to respawn which is near the monument .. get the sand from the sand duper and use end teleport back to overworld it will return u to the monument so u wont run out of sand
