Brilliant John. We lived in Warrels Place from Dec 1969 - Dec 1982. I used Steeles butchers which was still at the bottom of Stocks Hill in 1975 ( daughter born Dec 1974 and I remember going there when she was a tiny baby). I also remember the bakery in the Warrels. A young lady called Sandra worked there and when we moved to where we are now a came across her mum ( small world?). Kitchens was a favourite shop for youngsters. Always pleasant to walk along Bramley Town Street. Thanks for this.

I grew up on Warrels Place from 76 to 90 but my family still live there. Loved Hiltons and the corner shop near Warrels Mount. Both gone now tho.

Hi Sean, nice to hear from you. You lived on the short part of Warrels Place didn't you?. You had a younger sister. Either your sister or mum was called Maria? I used to chat to your mum when our paths crossed. My daughter Andrea will know more.

Aye, my mum is Marie, my sister is Debbie. Not many left on the small bit of the street from back then.

Hi Sean, thanks for remembering my mum & dads bakery - believe it has now been converted back to a house - I used to buy sweets from the shop at the bottom of Warrels Mount as well, again converted into a house - best regards - Jeff Hilton

Hi Susan - thanks for remembering my mum and dads bakery in The Warrels. Hiltons Bakery moved there from 258 Bramley Town Street after our shop was compulsory purchased and closed in 1976. By the 80's I had moved away though so don't remember Sandra. Dad used to play rugby for Bramley Old Boys as a young man in the 40's at the end of Grosmont Terrace. I also used to go into Kitchens to buy Airfix model kits in the 60's. Met Mr Kitchen many years later (in the 90's) at a stall on Wetherby market - still selling toys and fancy goods! The other toy shop on Bramley Town Street was Rawnsley's, bit further up towards upper town street on the other side of the road next to Silson's, the TV record and electrics shop - all the best - Jeff Hilton

I'll never never forgive Leeds City Council for bulldozing all of this. What a very different place Bramley would be today. Just ripped out its heart and crushed its soul.

Absolutely fascinating video - and lovely, nostalgic music to accompany it. It's a small point but ... I would have thought this was filmed in the early 1970s rather than late 1970s (as the description says). My family moved to the area from Middleton in March 1975, and the Bramley Shopping Centre plus a lot of new housing had just been built. The young woman's fashion and skirt length also suggest early '70s. There are some interesting old photos of Bramley and other parts of Leeds on the Leodis website, if anyone hasn't come across that yet.

Just as remembered my dad ran the Thrift stores at 39 secs and our house many years later was above the Doctors surgery Chaleners? My first house was west over road where the old ford van pulls out

Hi worked out of Upper Wortley Poice Station from 1973 until 78.I covered Bramley beat and all I can recall is that Bramley Town Street was not like that I 1973.My wife grew up on Intake.I have showed her this video and she thinks it is earlier than the 70's possibly mid to Kate 60's.

Theres something very tragic about the passage of time & progress. I miss the old Leeds.

I remember Eddy's Cycle shop which was close to the Unicorn. same side, just after the railings ended and a large house starts. I remember pushing my broken bike up the Outgang so he could replace my buckled wheel. My mother also worked at a bakery further along town street, but I cant remember the name of it as yet, but I do remember calling in from school and having to sit down stairs ( basically the clean cellar) waiting for my mum to finish work. In the meantime I just stared at all the Easter eggs and moulds drying out that surrounded me. I also remember that the Manor Park Surgery used to be just off set from town street. It was a big old house, which is still there.. I also remember the best fish and chips were at the top of the Aston's and Town street ( where traffic lights are now). Chips were 3d (old pence)

Apologies, my historian tells me it was "Arnie Whites" the curse of predictive text !

Hi Martin - I was brought up in Bramley and for a time lived in our family bakery (Hilton's) shown early in the film on the left hand side just after the top of Bell Lane - before the guy pushing the pram. By memory the shops shown at the beginning were Dobson's green grocers and that would have been followed by Wards butchers at the top of Bell Lane out of shot - then a milliners and Barkers Yard just before our place painted in yellow. Looking at the film demolition of town street had already begun and a lot of the shops are already empty and boarded up or missing. I think we were one of the last shops to close and Mum & Dad moved up to the Warrels with a bakery on the entrance street to Bramley Old Boys. I too used to go to Eddy's Cycle Shop, and of note was the toy shop Rawnsley's. This was opposite another bakery called Thomsons with a dentist above. Whites was further down town street after stocks hill on the opposite side of the road from the top of outgang. Cheers
