Today's Topic is : Netaji's Bengal Volunteer Corps Parade in Congress Session in 1928 and many other unknown facts relating to it.
Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose the then General Secretary of Congress Party organised a group of volunteers during the 1928 Kolkata session of Indian National Congress. The group was named Bengal Volunteers Corps and Netaji himself was the GOC. Most of the young revolutionaries of Bengal and Eastern India were part of that group. Including Masterda Surya Sen, Ganesh Ghosh, Binoy Basu, Badal Gupta & Dinesh Gupta, and others. A Parade was organised in the Congress Session itself. Writer Nirad C Choudhury had mentioned in his book "Bose organized a volunteer corps in uniform, its officers were even provided with steel-cut epaulettes ... his uniform was made by a firm of British tailors in Calcutta, Harman's. A telegram addressed to him as GOC was delivered to the British General in Fort William and was the subject of a good deal of malicious gossip among the British Indians.." .
Mahatma Gandhi (Gadhiji) , Sardar Patel Motilal Nehru and other top leaders of Congress were Surprised at the situation. Gandhiji did not liked it at all , he named it as a Circus. After the Calcutta session of the Congress was over, the Bengal Volunteers continued its activities. Soon, it turned into an active revolutionary association.
Bengal Volunteers decided to launch 'Operation Freedom' in the early 1930s, primarily to protest against the police repression in different jails in Bengal.
Bose had been a leader of the younger, radical, wing of the Indian National Congress in the late 1920s and 1930s, rising to become Congress President in 1938 and 1939. However, as we know that he was ousted from Congress leadership positions in 1939 following differences with Mahatma Gandhi and the Congress high command.
Later as most of you know , with the help of Axis Powers Netaji Revamped the Indian National Army or Azad Hind Fauj .
