Thank you for this, I'll definitely gonna check this plugin out. One plugin which helped me a lot to navigate around nested code blocks is Rainbow Brackets as it colors opening and closing brackets which belong together in the same color (even works for HTML-Tags).
Hey John! I first want to say that your videos helped be get through the first two coding classes! I can't thank you enough for that. Secondly, I was wondering if you plan on doing a little series on data structures? You have a few that touch on bits and pieces, but a succinct data structures series could help a lot of us future programmers with understanding data structures and algorithms. Of course, I will be here either way. I just felt it was worth voicing.
I legit love you for all of your contributions. You have saved me so much time simply watching your videos. You do an amazing job of explaining things in a concise and easy-to-understand way. I'll definitely check out your course. Thank you!
Great plug-in! Already installed and using for one day and... I' ve realized that there were lots of shortcuts ive missed the whole time using IntelliJ. Thanks for this hint!
I love this plugin and always install it on any IntelliJ install, but on windows it's actually a LOT easier to just use the context menu button and then use the alt key bindings to get places (i.e. menu key -> r -> r to rename). I find most of these to be a lot better ergonomically too as some of the IntelliJ shortcuts are not very ergonomically great for repeated use. Or even better, just double tap shift and start typing what you want to do.
"Helpful but judgemental senior programmer" hahaha. Made me think of a very specific person I work with :). Y'all are the OG shortcut coaches, we love u!
it's even easier to just double click shift as long as what you want to do doesn't conflict with a file name or such. Probably the easiest and most efficient way to do anything.
Yes, I was the one who printed out shortcuts on a paper 🤦♀️ Gradually have learned quite many combinations. But thanks for this video! Shall definitely install it. I’m sure there are so many more out there still to memorize 🦄
It's really cool, but where I work it's 100% Java so I haven't had much exposure to it professionally. So I probably won't be making videos about it anytime soon unfortunately!
Not sure, how did i miss this one when watching other video tutorials.. Can you post a video for Map with in streams thats where i need some support. Kindly pls
Like 2 years ago maybe? For the channel, I switched because I took a poll of viewers and the majority were using IntelliJ, so it made sense to switch to be the most helpful. For a long time I was more used to Eclipse, but slowly became more familiar with IntelliJ to be able to code as efficiently as I used to. There are still things I like about Eclipse, but now IntelliJ is what I use day to day.
@@CodingWithJohn Thanks :) Just curious, would you consider VSCode or something like that as a daily driver? (I personally find it interesting b/c of the whole dev container thing and I can easily switch to another language and still be in the same environment -- still unsure though if that's the right move)
This is a good video and the plugin does help me learn key codes for things in Idea. However, what is the fascination with the concept that programmers MUST use the keyboard instead of a mouse? Even though these work, I still believe the mouse can be as fast.
It's not available on community version. That means it's like non-free plug-in. Everything I need to add I find it unavailable. It is way better to use VS Code instead.
thank you! it was frustrating to go from VScode to IntelliJ while learning Java and so much else in my bootcamp. still irritated about ctrl + shift + arrow key not highlighting and instead doing what alt + arrow key does already....
Hmm for me, ctrl + shift + arrow does highlight, like it does in every other application. Maybe your settings are somehow wonky. That would be super irritating
Power mode II is my favorite plugin. It shakes your screen and shoots confetti out of the cursor when typing. I disable flames and combos, too much for me.
Hi, I would like to ask you something. I just got a java backend engineeer job, but I do not feel familiar with Java at all. I would like to start learning from scratch, but dont know where to start. What is best way of learning syntax, and best coding practices ? Is it CodeWards? Leet Code ? or something else ? Thanks!
I believe it could enhance the viewer's experience if you could demonstrate the installation process at the video's outset rather than towards the conclusion. While I understand that this approach might be intended to engage viewers throughout the entire video, it could potentially induce a sense of unease in some individuals.(rephrased by chatGPT) :D Anyway, thank you for this, I am using it now and it enhanced my intelliJ usage
This is clearly some new usage of the word "Helpful" that I was previous unaware of. Likewise, you seem to equate "Productivity" with the speed of entering commands. No-one codes at maximum speed all the time; we all need to take micro-breaks to get our thoughts in order. Or do you prefer the Infinite Number of Monkeys approach to coding??
I think you’re going to love IntelliJ. It has evolved functionality over time, so sitting down with it for the first time is like getting into the cockpit of a modern jet fighter. It takes a little time to get fluent, but the most-used features will be similar to other IDEs you have used. I have really used just about every Java IDE that has come (and gone), including Visual Cafe and Microsoft Visual Studio for Java, back before they decided Java was a competitor and killed support for it. I really like Idea better than Netbeans and Eclipse, the two other modern contenders. I use VS Code for Python, although I’m transitioning to PyCharm, which is also made by IntelliJ. I do like VS Code but I don’t know how good the Java support is. But it’s not bad for Python!
This is a great channel, thank you! I am a newbie and was looking for a resource where I can practice java problems that has solutions ( beginner, intermediate for now ). Any books with problems and solutions? websites? please advice and thank you again!
Nice, now they should put an animated paperclip character on those notifications...
Thank you for this, I'll definitely gonna check this plugin out.
One plugin which helped me a lot to navigate around nested code blocks is Rainbow Brackets as it colors opening and closing brackets which belong together in the same color (even works for HTML-Tags).
What a coincidence, I’ve been looking to improve my speed through these shortcuts and your video comes up! Thanks!

Any equivalent plugin for eclipse?

The tab key is my super power!
for real though it can do a lot of things
"Helpful but judgemental senior programmer" hahaha. Made me think of a very specific person I work with :). Y'all are the OG shortcut coaches, we love u!
This is amazing! I am usually the person to bug people about their lack of shortcut usage
on Windows, I do Ctrl + Shift + A, type few letters for what I want to do select and enter. Basically Command Palatte from VSCode
it's even easier to just double click shift as long as what you want to do doesn't conflict with a file name or such. Probably the easiest and most efficient way to do anything.
More productivity videos please!
This was really good. I really need to start using this plugin!
Hey John, Appreciate your efforts and way of teaching concept very clearly.😊
Hey John, what are your thoughts on learning Intellij shortcuts vs learning vim/emacs shortcuts?
Yes, I was the one who printed out shortcuts on a paper 🤦♀️
Gradually have learned quite many combinations. But thanks for this video! Shall definitely install it. I’m sure there are so many more out there still to memorize 🦄
Thank you John for all your useful tutorials. BTW I’m very curious, what do you think about Kotlin language ?
It's really cool, but where I work it's 100% Java so I haven't had much exposure to it professionally. So I probably won't be making videos about it anytime soon unfortunately!
Can you do a video on the Comparator?
Hey John! Could you maybe make a video where you explain the `protected` keyword?
Please make a video on access modifiers in java. It would be very helpful.
Any equivalent for VS Code ?
Not sure, how did i miss this one when watching other video tutorials.. Can you post a video for Map with in streams thats where i need some support. Kindly pls
Awesome as always! Thank you John
Thanks Jhon!
Can we please have a video of SonarLint and GitHub co-pilot with Intellij?
I will use it for sure. Thanks!
is there anythig like this for Eclipse enterprise edition?
Great video John!
is there something similar for vscode ?
When did you switch from Eclipse to IntelliJ and why? :)

Awesome, thank you for your effort ❤
Thank you so much for saving my time
i cant use all shortcuts because i've to use mac keyboard to work on windows virtual desktop. but thanks for help

wow! great thanks
Another Gem from John.
Installing NOW!!
wow great plugin
Cool!! This will be very useful.
New John video, me happy

I don't have ultimate, I just have the community version. It's a free plugin that anyone can install

Hi sir.....There are any shortcut like ctrl shift O to import lib like Eclipse?
I think Ctrl Alt O does that by default in intellij
Yes but it just like optimize import remove lib is not using, not import all missing lib?
so usefull!! TY
Power mode II is my favorite plugin. It shakes your screen and shoots confetti out of the cursor when typing. I disable flames and combos, too much for me.
Just installed it, pretty hilarious. There are a LOT of settings to mess with though.
Merci chef ☺️

Nice, the only thing that's remaining is to uninstall intellij and use vim
Anyone know of something similar for VS2022?
that's great
