The great thing about learning AWS UI is that once you master it, you can wait a couple months and relearn it all over again when they move everything.
I think the "Billing" stuff is now all out of date - it looks like it's been replaced with "Budgets" which, to be fair, makes much more sense and is much more intuitive for someone like a CFO to configure. You don't want a platform where the CFO has to hire a DevOps guy to setup a budget alert.
So grateful for this. Could not believe the complexity of AWS’ own Get Started tutorials - *this* high a threshold for no more than AWS "hello world"? Followed your footsteps and everything worked at last. Deeply obliged. 🙏
Thanks for sharing this informative guide, Travis! It's great to see a step-by-step tutorial on how to get started with AWS. Your tips on how to keep costs low and secure your account are particularly helpful.
Great!! Within no time, I could create a new AWS account without any worries. Set an alarm for the billing and created a test instance. Thanks Travis for the help!! Following for more. 😇
My situation is that I've mainly dealt with Microsoft Azure and 365 at work. Some companies use AWS but I haven't been so lucky to work for one of those. So, basically I'm here on my own volition to see what all it entails to setup a free learning AWS account. Thank you!
Regarding 19:37, when i attempted to do this in Aug 2024, I couldn't see any option to save the key-pair to my pc, instead the pem key-pair was automatically downloaded to my "downloads" folder. Also 21:24 "chmod" is a Mac command, it won't be recognised if you're doing this on Windows.
Hello! Thanks so much for this guide! It was extremely easy and simple to follow because of you. The process was streamlined and I understood everything! (sidenote blur isnt destructive so when hiding sensitive information please use opaque blocks!)
This video came at such a perfect time! Thank you for making this! I worked in Tech Support for a major ISP for two years, and I want to get into cloud. I have no experience, and my goal is to hopefully get the AWS CCP cert by the end of the year. This vid helps greatly! TY
What I'm trying to figure out is can I simulate a LAN environment? For instance, 5 workstations and a server with user IDs for each person. So in other words, would I do something like set up a server instance and 5 workstation instances and could those workstation instances see the server instance just like they would on a traditional local LAN? And then I could run LAN-based software using that setup where each workstation instance is accessing data files stored on the server instance?
Thank you Travis I followed your steps. One thing bothers me. When login in to the instance console, why the default user (e2_user) and not the user we just created? sounds insecure.
Thanks for the video. I am able to flow until the part that sets up billing alert. My aws is completely different from yours. No where to find "alarm" and "billling alart" part. I searched but nothing shows. Please help.
Thanks allot for the helpful flow into getting the aws account setup. In regards to the aws cluster though i think i am going to do just that try and run a kubernetes cluster on it apparently it is doable for free. 🧐
I build websites for clients and wondered how I should handle each individual clients offload to Amazon S3 bucket? I would need to have each clients credit card matched with their S3 bucket charges. Question is, is all that handled under one AWS account through my agency or do I need to create a brand new AWS for each client? SO CONFUSING.
Hi Travis, thanks for the video! Question: I opened an aws account a year ago but never used it much, but now, I need to start learning. Can I open a new aws account, same name, same credit card BUT different E-mail and still be eligible for the free tier? The internet community is divided on this issue.
3:55 why the billing information when it supouse to be free? I am really hesitant with the signing up, the advertisement is not really accurate to the facts what really is not OK, if a product says "Always free" but has actually hidden costs than the company should be prosecuted for false advertisement, it is not OK if they say "Always free" and then charge you
Mr.Travis, is there a structured platform like zerotomastery to learn data engineering skills like spark, hadoop because udemy and coursera look too confusing?
I am struck at billing alarm creation, it gives me a warning stating - You don't have permission to access billing information for this account. Please help
9:33 "So if you just go to AWS... Billing alarm...." Fine this is where I got stuck cos you told me where to go, but not how to get there, and I can't see anything you clicked on there, nor is the URL changing at the top to give me some clue, so I gave up right there. Seemingly you had this section in your favorites or something, I didn't, obviously, and don't know where it is... AWS just too big for me to go searching for stuff.
Billing is by and large the biggest barrier to entry for most folks getting into AWS, and even seasoned AWS pros have been bit by unexpected charges. It's one area where Amazon/AWS could really do more to improve their adoption rate for those on the fence about getting into working with AWS. Great video, however!
This was great! - What I am struggling to find and learn about is "IAM Identity Center"(IAM IC) The setup of OU's and Accounts and then the Users within. Can you do a Video on That? IAM IC seems new enough that there is no videos about it. I was hoping yours would touch on it as this video is new. But again you just used IAM like others (I don't blame you it looks easier). And some IAM IC content I read told me not to use IAM and just use IAM IC. From there provisioning a Service into those accounts, is where I want to be, while being able to use Root User to login and oversee??? I want to start out like I intend to finish (using AWS also as the IDM for our company) and the information I am seeing does not refer to IAM (the original IAM) it refers to IAM Identity Center. IAM user login then does not work, So very confused! Why did they call it the same thing???
Attempting this now and so far so good but I can get an error when trying to create the billing alarm for EstimatedCharges, `Alarm creation is not enabled if your graph contains metrics from different regions` it gives me a learn more link but doesn't seem helpful did anyone else run into this and how did you resolve it if you did?
@@Bankai3474 where did you change the region at I only found the one drop down under browse? Edit: Found it, for others having this issue select the source button to the right of browse. and make sure all mentions of region are set to the same, i.e.: us-east-1.
I had the same issue. I have SecureCRT and was able to use the IP address with an SSH2 connection (port 22), no firewall and the user name I had created to access the AWS Instance. I had to disable all of the Authentication but the PublicKey and then configure the location of the key pair to the location on my windows desktop where I saved it from the download. Hope this helps.
@@bullardogchannel524 Thanks for the reply, I'm very new to cloud computing and your videos help. My IAM setup and first EC2 instance came from your video. Love this!!! But I need more help! Does anyone know of a way to create a Virtual Environment or Machine on AWS or Linode or somesuch? I am able to learn quite a lot at work, however, I do not have permissions to install software on my work machine. I'm wondering if there is a way to create a virtual machine somewhere, I'm thinking either on Linode or AWS, where I could install software to use in that environment and continue my learning. I'm asking this because while I've been able to do a lot of front-end work and learning (actually using AWS Cloud9 IDE), now that I'm diving more into the world of the backend, I need to be able to have more control over the machine that I'm using. If anyone knows of any way that I can do this, I'd sincerely appreciate it!

I was always wondering how to learn AWS and this is by far the most easiest entry content I have encountered on UA-cam, thank you Travis!
An excellent resource. Don't stab in the dark. Follow this tutorial. It will avoid many pitfalls.

Do you think AWS is a good option for photo backup ? 100Gb always free, is that correct ?
Thank you for this video. It helps a lot. But, what about a video, what explains how to create and expose an AWS kubernetes cluster?

What's the point of not using the root account if you're the only one with access to AWS?
