Mantis: I'm a ferocious predator that is able to strategically ambush and catch prey, I'm strong, fast and ruthless. Fear me! Human: Aw, so cute, let me pet you
It's the most human thing to do! Even if you're not friend shaped there still will be humans who will want to be your friend, and I think that's kinda beautiful!
As a child, merely seeing one would scare me. Now? I'd gladly carry them upon my head, they look so cool and adorable at the same time, and they come in quite an assortment of colors varying from different species.
1:08 I love how the mantis on the left is doing a dance, the small one starts climbing it then the big one is like "TF u doin?" and the right one goes 😱
1:04 is a short-statured coach and his protege about to get into the ring. “Alright, Joey, you’ve shown your tenacity long enough, now get out there and show him what you’re made of!”
They are my favorite insects! So much variety, so many shapes, colors, and sizes, obvious intelligence, curious and alert. They are so alien compared to a lot of other insects out there!
One cricket died during the production of this video. The mantises are fearless. I am surprised how indifferent they were to each other. Where I am, there are only a couple of species in the wild but I have observed one kind consuming another. My favourites to watch are the youngsters and how quickly they adopt swaying and posing as they try to work ot the life's dangers.
Yeah I was surprised that he trusts them not to eat each other. They're very opportunistic and will eat just about anything they can overpower even if they just ate, they will literally eat themselves to death if you let them. Housing them together is a pretty much guaranteed way to lose all of them except one except for a few species. And I've had it happen anyways with one of those the one time I tried keeping them communally (p. Paradoxa). With how much work they and how expensive they are for how short their lifespan is I would never risk it but looks cool.
That big one trying so hard to look intimidating only for that much smaller one to sneak over and smack him is great. Big one even turns around to see what was tickling him. Mantids are pretty expressive for insects.
Noooo 1:03 I damn nearly died 😂 Mantis on the left: Fear me! Smol mantis in middle: Dad is that you? Mantis on the left: * Stares at him and runs away * Smol mantis: Daddy come back! Mantis on the right: What tf just happened 😂
They're not angry creatures - the side to side motion is not about anger... When they have their arms up in display mode it's because they're in alert-mode and are being provoked.. Beautiful gentle creatures. Humans can learn a lot from them 🌿💚🌿
@@JadeD-n5d If they were big enough to eat humans I can tell you right now there would be no humans left! 😆 Mantids are exceptional Hunters... As for females occasionally eating the head of whoever they've mated with, the current thinking is that it is only done if nutrition has been inadequate during the season. It's not "behavioral" in any kind of human emotional sense. They've been living exactly the same way for the past 250 Million years. Getting all offended by it is pointless. Fun Facf: some types of mantids don't require males at all to reproduce... eg. Meomantis Caffra 🌿💚🌿

I saw a cute little mantis a week ago on one of my big plants up the side of my front door, moved him over to one of my red plants in the front yard of the house so my aunt didn't freak out.
Pretty awesome video, I love mantises, they can either be really friendly, or have that "piss off I'm autistic" vibe. I've met both. First was on a cool morning, he was happy to just chill on my arm and absorb some warmth for a couple hours. The other was a much larger one, she was in the jam of a door I wanted to close, and flew right at my face when I tried to gently coax her away.
No one gonna talk about how he vanished for such a long time then dropped this with no elaboration? Wb Insect-man. Idk why it didn't notify me of these posts.
I love how mantis anger is just them busting a move.
Aggressively busting a move*
Nah they just put their hands up like they're being arrested 🪦🪦
Or flashin their shit like divas
😂
Cute 😂😂😂😂😂.
i just realised that mantis is basically an insect centaur. It has quadrupedal main body and an upper torso with a head and two arms made for grabbing
YES! FINALLY!!!
*I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO HAD THIS REALISATION!*
I had to sit with this though alone for too many years.
That's the revelation I have been searching for; truly, the universe holds so many secrets 😲

They’re so weird I love them so much!!!! 💕💕
1:08 The fact that you breed all these love them support them socialize them care for them as they die is really genius stuff
They are like Action Figures, but alive.
“ The hang five all of you are like action figures, but bigger, except for you mantis, you’re about the same size”

Porcupine: raises quills

Yes, yes you did. And how do I know that you ask? Because I just did the same thing😂😂

Hard to pick a favorite when I love them all!
Such absolute beauty in the Mantis world. Fascinating! 🤗❤️
Man, that little guy at the end must have really been hungry! That grasshopper was almost as big as he was!
I didn’t know they came in such varied colors, shapes and sizes. I like the one that looked kind on plaid. And those little ones were just precious!
There’s just something so different about how they move compared to most other insects. They always look so…animated, it’s difficult to explain.
I think it will be more close to fear than anger, because they do this against predators, trying to get them away.
They usually do this to predators larger than them...
3:53 that’s one’s face is amazing. It makes me think of the mantid aliens people claim to encounter.
This video has single handedly made me want to become a mantis collector. They are stunning and majestic, like actual fairies
