Great ideas to ponder! If only the governments wanted to help people thrive! I was raised on a farm and hope for that kind of life now. For now, I’ve been growing medicinal perennials, fruit trees & small gardens on my urban lot of a town in Alberta. I buy produce & some groceries from local producers. I’m learning more about holistic health & plants.

I am just like you. I have to consume to produce. To produce power, you have to consume by buying solar collectors. To produce vegetables in a cold climate, you have to consume to produce by purchasing materials to make a greenhouse. In my opinion, it all equals out in the end.

dang it..... i just realize how for some years now im with a mindset extremly close to this... and trying to do the stuff i can in a way i know i can give value to others who are shifting their way of thinking from todays norms to a way that actually it is not that hard to do stuff in a way that both sides can get the best "bang for the buck" and be happy with the achievment.... but it is hard after distancing from people to start to form the community... but it is a good thing i realized that it is better to WORK HARD on building the right community than to distance myself and TRY to do everything on my own... im thankful that i stumbled on this video cuz it helped sorting my thoughts ♥

Great ideas. I think one thing people will be looking for will be future security, like a retirement of sorts. Living a much better life day to day for some chores is great, but I see that as "renting", if you will. While that may work for some in the near term, I think most will want to "own" in the long term. If you find some really good people, and want to keep them around, you may need to figure out how to let them be "owners" in their own future. Maybe some kind of option to earn a piece of land from you (no idea how much you have), or something along those lines???

It’s a difference between an internal community, and having a community of neighbours. Government doesn’t really allow subdividing further. I hoping to find some guys for my set up, but also hope some guys buy land and do their own set ups around me. 👍

I have built enough to consume in place for several months. Production is limited on .25 acres. The long term goal is to establish a productive homestead like yours. I have the land out of town and have established access. Hopefully, I will have a water well in a couple months. And then I can finish my bugout bus as a cabin on wheels for the family after that. Doing this without debt is a lot of work, but you are right: production is key. 🔑

It's interesting that you've arrived at a similar idea to one I've had. I won't lay it all out here, but it takes a lot of parts of multi-generational farmsteading, prepping, stacked income streams, agritourism, and the Commons and rolls it up into a nice package.

20 year old me was very consumption oriented, but I didnt have the resources to be productive.
35 year old me is far more productive. I moved out of town got some solar and can fix my own vehicles. In a few years Ill probably have a similar set up to you.
My point is prepping is a lifestyle.

Been there, done that! Too many times! People have the best intentions but they slack off when life gets difficult or upsetting, which is always coming and then the landowner will always end up "working or paying" for the newcomer, in one way or another. I know it is a pessimistic way of looking at your thinking but in my experience, it won't work long term, as in weeks.

I've been thinking on the production and van life folk myself for years . I too when I purchase things it's not fir consumption everything has a job . I have 3 trailers on my 15 acres, I had been thinking of offering them as living space during shtf ,but maybe it'd be better to have a van life person come and stay . I have 3 hoop houses I grow winter crops in seed production, and some summer production. I've got some machinery too . Backhoe and like .it's alot for a single 68 year old female to take care of. One thing that concerns me alot is getting taken advantage of ..that's why I've hesitated building " community".

Its a great idea, problem then becomes, in the end times, who can you REALLY trust. Thats a big downfall if that person you let into your circle turns on you. So It could be a advantage but it also could be a big disadvantage. Great ideas though. Love your mindset, me and my husband are the same. When people listen to us they think we are crazy. We sold our nice house to purchase 10 acres, 40 minutes away. Yep so they think we are nuts. We think our goal is going to be just stay small, just for our family etc. Its all God willing of course.

You raise my questions and concerns. I am "old" I have been told. Crazy for buying my property. Too much for me to handle. I am still working to prepare for changing lifestyles and I wish I had the knowledge and skills you have. But then I know I have knowledge and skills and just need to go forward as I am able.
You asked for ideas. So I have some ideas.
I dont have any clay and for my large snow smelt pond. It fills up and goes dry quickly. I will need to line it to hold for irrigation all season. At least that is my thoughts. I bought this property almost 4 years ago approaching winter. There is an upper elevation well that can gravity feed the pond to keep if full. I bought this property inheriting dreams and efforts of someone in the past. I am 4th owner in a string of short turnovers since pond was operational. When I purchased it was about 8 years since it was used maybe. Piecing what I had to work with from investigating and together what I was looking at from discovery and neighbors. History passed on is important. Like knowing where the water lines are located, there depth. I still have zero particulars for my two wells. And keeping the pump house warm enough has failed quite expensively. Beginning to believe its frozen water before it reaches the well house. Thanks to you.
I have a green thumb. Planning a year round greenhouse. ThoughtvI had it designed until I landed on your channel. Worse I see is minus 35 F. So remote here in Washington state eastern side on southern reach of Canadian rockies. Water is pure. South facing property on slope. Soil is deep. I didnt expect that so its a blessing. I have feet of soil to dig down and help on warmth.
So my obvious opportunities for growing food where others faced dry wells and poverty with skyrocketing food costs. Having the resources to abundantly grow gives me pause to consider this need.
So my acts have been to buy heirloom seeds and seek out varieties with high nutrition. Then learn/teach to seed collect from a single mature produce. Seeds are expensive and quickly becoming unavailable. Even prohibited purchase during the Covid lockdowns. This was a huge clue. Mail order still OK then. Now plants are 5 times their costs preCovid and pre high enflation. Obvious they dont want yiu feeding yourself and others. So saving seeds is critical.
Bumble bees have suoer declined. So instead of growing hay fir animals, i will be planting flowers to feed the bees. And trade food for feed.

    • @ArkopiaYouTube
      @ArkopiaYouTube  2 місяці тому

Thanks 🙂. People will cap their pond with bentonite clay, I beleive about 6 inches. Or a liner could work. And get that greenhouse built. We save many seeds, especially heirloom tomato varieties. ✌️

I'm also from Saskatchewan, what really really really worries me is that this is the Dominion of Canada. You dont own anything, the Crowne does. They just have to raise your land taxes so high that you can not pay and it goes back to our glorious King. We also have been busy planting fruit trees and every year we have a bigger garden than we actually need. Everyone should learn how to can/preserve food and butcher. Would like to add some kind of nut trees to our growing food forest but it seems limited due to our cold climate. If your are good with a rifle scope and a fish hook you will survive. Keep up the good work, your videos help wake the sheep up. Fight the good fight and down with the NWO!!!!

We are in 306 sask and i just made a fb post asking people on my friends list that see my post… if any of them would be interested in relocating to our land for free in exchange for daily chores. But yea we are stuck on the fine details. We have had some interest via private messages. Ideal physically fit males would be ideal. Or a male & female couple would be ideal
Also. Preferably under 50 yrs old. I think it would be difficult to find someone long term and tit who is 50+ and slowing down physically and becoming more susceptible to injury and long term disease etc… would hate for it to have to come
Down to evicting a great elder person due to then not holding their own or something like that. The fine details are definitely challenging right now

    TWD community in 2024.
Here In Bulgaria /EU/ we have occasionally something like this.
Group of peolpe living in a large parcel of land ex-production site. One or few of them is running some kind of a bussines and pay the bills, /be it lumber or machining/ while others live in their small cabins or containers and help with what they can. On of them raising chickens, others have pigs. Small garden is placed somewhere. Often the bussines man lives in his house in the same land and his kind play with the other's kids. It has a stigma that this type of life is only for poor people, but I know for sure one of them landlords and they are over 7 digits. When you look at them you deffinetly can't say that 😂.

My philosophy is we each have skills that can impact our lives and communities we live in. I like the analogy of our contribution to community being an ocean, and as people, represented by boats, expressing their talents in life, adds to the ocean and all boats float higher. We are currently looking at land to have a very efficient house and healing space for clients too. Similar to your setup, we would like to have year round growing area and some animals too. In our mid 50's, we have lots of possibilities to step up to this next phase of our lives.

This is a very nice version of what I am planning with some Voluntaryist friends from around Europe, to create in Spain. 100% Off-grid, people being able to live on the project to work, while setting up their own homestead and/or OHS business, and get the benefits and potentially shares of the profits. Anyone interested, gimme a shout. I already have a rough base of operations going with volunteers and collaborators. We focus on Open Source Hardware development for off-grid systems, but all kinds of skills and experiences is needed to run gardens, computer tasks, construction, media, economics, etc.

I found and old deer hanger on my property and have been using for bear and deer. I have been using acorns for bait to help habitat. All about making better habitat for humans and animals. Government always wants a cut. As currencies loose value governments become more controlling and greedier to make up the value and loose of control. Lower currencies values mean more poverty, crime, homelessness, hunger, and drug use. Since 2012 it's been climate change, social justice, and divide too distract from over government over spending. Things aren't getting better.

While it might work in Canada in your specific provence, in the US the ability to do something like this would be determined by the regs and laws of specific counties within each State. Now... I don't know this for a fact as I've not researched this specific use case. It strikes me that 'putting a pin' in a place, esp. if done online, for vanlife/short term, long term camping etc. would ping the radar of more US county officials who would then try to tell you that you were effectivly running a campground, and would be required to meet whatever codes might exist (or be especially put on place just for you!!) to keep operating. IDK... I really like the idea. But even if NO 'monies' are exchanged, I still can't see a scenario where the local tax man/woman (or the CN equivalent) might not come knocking. The communes in the 60's through early 80's ran into these issues. All that said, it's really does get a person to start thining about setting up not only a single location, but a network of locations in the US and Canada where the increasing number of intentional or unintentional nomads could travel from spot to spot! I am in WY, where regulation is still somewhat constrained and land is abundant (and has a very similar climate as you, though that is changing each year.) The main take away from this vid was the idea of cultivationg a production mindset, whatever that may mean to the individual. Thank you for that alone!

In the Stone Age, wandering worked because there was only about one human per square mile. Even then, if you wandered into somebody else's territory you would probably be very dead very fast. It's all about the carrying capacity (food base) of the land as in what is available to eat per square mile. In a coastal area with lots of tide pools and fish it might (wow) get as high as 5 people per square mile, or 1 person per 20 square miles in the desert. At higher population densities, humans tend to get very homicidal or cannibalistic unless they stay in one place and produce their own plants to eat and meat to eat. Hunger kills in more ways than one, so van life types won't last for long. Nor will the gasoline or spare parts.

Well brother Dean, after making my way through all the commercials, I decided to watch your video again👍.1 thing that I differ from your teachings is that I follow God's Laws for the proper attitude to live life .
All these man made laws are initially based on the 10 commandments .But as time progresses, Society tends to ignore the wisdom of God's laws and his Words of truth.
So now as you laid out the political, economic and social realities facing everyone in the whole world, we are now entering the age of total stupidity especially when we elect idiots who cannot think rationally enough to figure out how to tie their shoe laces but believe that since they are elected officials, that they have now been indowed with some sort of super intelligence and super abilities and authority to dictate to the masses what direction in life is mandatory for total success in life.
These idiots are totally corrupt in their thinking. But I'm not telling you something that you already know, but I have to register the thought.
Your ideas are wonderful in principle but realize that you are the creator of that ideal .But 5hese doesn't mean that everyone who shows up at your doorstep will already have your mindset in place.
The basic problem lies in the core belief structure of each individual.
Some mental beliefs are of the "fuck you rich farmer man , I'm gonna steal, lie and cheat you out of your house and property ". This mentality already exists in many countries in the world. It is Bourne from the Roman CATHOLIC CHURCH, where they state that " It's okay to steal because someone has need of your possessions ".So unless you have a vetting system in place, you might want to rethink your utopian 💡 ideals.
The 10 commandments cover everything as to how man should live to be prosperous and happy.
Anything less than that will only lead to catastrophe and death to you and your family.
Think about what I'm saying Dean brother.
I tell you this to protect you from massive disappointment in mankind's evil behavior.
