I purchased an APX7000XE (black) brand new ordered to my specs out of my pocket. I use it at work 8 hours a day. I wanted it because it is a type accepted dual band radio and as a ham operator I do like to get on the air from time to time. It was about $6000 with FPP, Bluetooth, GPS, VHF/UHF R1, Astro Digital P25, Xtreme 1 sided noise canceling, wireless remote speaker mic and the 3 year full coverage comprehensive warranty. I love it, it's a personal radio and the audio quality just blows other radios away! It's a little larger than what's normal and most people especially budget ham operators make comments about its size and the cost, but they don't have to buy one if they don't like it. I've found though that the remote speaker mic is not useful as you can hear the radio itself even in boiler/chiller rooms clipped to your belt the remote mic just become something else to wear. That has been the biggest advantage. Everyone else on their quiet radios have the speaker mics and cables. I just have my radio, way more convenient! Anyways if you have the money and want one, don't hesitate. It's an awesome product worth every penny!

I wish Motorola had cheaper uhf/vhf dual band radios......

I would have to take out a loan to afford one of these. They would be perfect for Public Safety, GMRS, and Ham. But I think i would go ahead and save my money for the 8K. Because i want U/V and 7/800.

Investing in a legit-tagged 8000 or 8000XE would be your best bet. Unless you are using it for public safety (in which case, one would be provided to you in time), throwing many thousands of dollars at one of those radios is insane. I can think of MUCH better ways to spend my money than paying an insane price for a legit-tagged Motorola APX8000 radio.
Motorola may incorporate DMR into the 8000, but thats just what I heard and you know how that goes. Tagless 8000's on Ebay ARE accelerated-life test rejects that have been repaired or stolen. Don't believe anything different.
By the way, you have a WICKED Dodge Charger!

snarlingrabiddog5150 You read my mind on DMR for the 8000. that would be my dream radio. I would be happy with just a dual band radio that does FPP and MDC1200. That's what I want. thank you for the compliment on my car. lol I traded it in for a 2014 Ram back in 2013. Working on putting mobile radios in it currently. I already have some expensive radios. I have a total of 7 Hytera DMR radios. the APX radios are the Lamborghinis of the radio world.

I like how you call the NNTN7573A A high cap battery when its just a tall standard one 2100 Mah. (one of the short ones is 2900Mah) And a little misleading on price. A nicely optioned VHF/UHF with FPP is around 4k brand new from Motorola

Tom Rivers That battery is designated as a high-capacity battery. As far as price and the APX7000 feature sets, Motorola charges over $7,000.00 BASE price with flash options (they don't flash for FPP to the general public) in the "nicely" category, run around $2,500.00 on top of that. Unless you are with an agency, buying in bulk with grant money, you'll never see an APX7000 UHF/VHF sold direct by Motorola for under the above stated price. If you know of an Authorized Motorola dealer who has brand new legitimate APX7000's with the features and, really, just the radio at $4,000.00, please give me his number.

How hard is it to swap out those channel knobs? I have the skinny channel knob on my 7000 , I ordered one of the fat ones

+Joseph Perkins On mine, it takes a lot of pulling power Joseph. I've done several switchouts and every time, it's a bear. I don't seat the fat one's down all the way. I like them just a little higher than flush.

Andrew Giroux Hi Andrew. I did. I didn't get any voicemails. I no longer use the iphone text message feature. It just got too difficult to use. I just couldn't get used to it. Old dog, new tricks and all that ;) Feel free to call or email :)
